You don't need a special MUD client to play Firan, but modern clients offer all kinds of special features that make playing on a MUSH more enjoyable. You can get by with "telnet", but you don't have to. If you use one of the clients we list below (and all of them offer a free version), then things will be easier for you on the game. Windows 95/98/NT/ME/2K/XP

  • SimpleMU
    A flexible, configurable client for Windows. Many of our staffers and players who use Windows use this one.
    For those users who have a registered copy of SimpleMU, Jeanne, one of our staffers, has created a dictionary file with everything Firan, from Anarinuell to Shamibelian and more. Download the file, unzip it into your SimpleMU folder, then click on the Tools Menu in the program. Choose 'Configure Spell Engine' and the Firan dictionary should be listed. Note that this will only work for the registered version.
  • MUSHClient
    Considered to be the fastest Windows MUD client around. Solid and reliable.

Macintosh

  • Atlantis
    A relatively new client for Mac OS X, developed by Firan wizard Jeanne. We think it's the best program for playing FiranMUX!
  • Savitar
    Savitar is the dominant MU* client for the Mac.
  • Rapscallion
    A client for the Mac... considered the best one by many a Firan Macintosh user. The bar by which other Mac MU* clients are measured, though it has not been updated in years and so only works on Mac OS 9, not OS X.
  • Cantrip
    A solid, scriptable free Mac OS X client, though development seems to have slowed.

Linux/UNIX

  • TinyFugue
    Though it's a pure console, text-mode client, TinyFugue is considered by many to be the mark against which all other UNIX clients are measured. It's nice because it can be run on almost anything. Including Mac OS X, or Windows!
  • BMUD
    A graphical MUD client which requires X11, GNOME and gtk+.
  • KMud
    A graphical MUD which requires the X11 and the K Desktop Environment (KDE).
