What follows is a brief summary of some of the major events in recent Firan history -- these things would be known of by the averageFiran citizen, at least to some degree. Most of these snippets are extracted from the news files, which contain a virtual stockpile of interesting stories about the past. We encourage everyone to take a look at them.

The Seven Heroes -- Just before the Shamibelian invasion, a dreadful divine beast was unleashed upon the Firan realms. It killed many and eventually a questing party of seven people, one from each of the clans (excluding the Ticanee) was sent to destroy it. The heroes were Elianos, Velani, Throg, Bannos, Zarid, Garen, and Lokaranis. Their story is told in 'news legend seven heroes'.

The Great War -- In the Year of Unification (0 A.U.), the Shamibelians, a goat-like race from the southlands who worship Drik, invaded the Firan lands and captured and enslaved almost all who did not flee in advance. The story of the Great War is told throughout 'news history timeline' and 'news legend exodus'.

The Water Sickness -- The water sickness came about in the year 15 A.U. It is a mysterious plague that was found to originate in the waters of the Ani river, which provide the city with much of its water. Efforts are still ongoing to completely eradicate the disease. See 'news water sickness' for more information.

The Abduction of Princess Inaya -- Princess Inaya, granddaughter of Elianos and Sabine and daughter of the vine god Elik, was abducted from the grounds of the Palace during the wedding of Prince Solgarik to Lady Zeysani. She was taken by the Shamibelians, who put her on a griffon and took her away. A rescue mission was mounted by many brave and heroic souls and the princess was saved, though not without great cost -- Clan Leader Judano, her great uncle, was killed, as well as the brave carpenter Palasion.

The Gold Dragon Civil War -- In the wake of Judano's death without an obvious heir, it was revealed that Jalil was his illegitimate son by the Griffon Clan Leader Tazi. The Clan Council decreed that Jalil was Judano's rightful heir and gave him the Gold Dragon throne; however, Prince Solgarik contested Jalil's right and riled up the Gold Dragon citizenry, starting a civil war. The war waged for many months before it was ended when Prince Vahlgellan rode to Clan Leader Jalil's aid. The difficulties over the succession of the Gold Dragon throne continue to this day, with the recent death of Lord Quentino Firgalik, Judano's nephew, for treason.

The Destruction of the Bath House -- In September of 18 A.U., the great god Unot unleashed destruction upon the Bath House in the Forum, punishing the Firans for allowing a number of dead bodies to lie unattended in his temple -- their bodies rotting and putting their souls at risk. The baths were completely destroyed and it took several weeks for them to be rebuilt as they are today. Many people died.

The Shamibelian Air Raid -- In April 19 A.U., the Shamibelians made perhaps their most daring attack upon the city of Anarinuell. In force, they attacked via griffons, seizing captives and setting the Barnacle Inn on fire. The brave soldiers of the Firan Army and guards, as well as private citizens, fought them back despite heavy losses in Firan griffons.

The Carnotti -- During the summer war season of the year 19 A.U. a gigantic and terrifying beast known as the Carnotti rampaged onto the battleground at Ellish and proceeded to kill and eat a number of Shamibelians, griffons, and Firans, making a nest out of the abandoned Fort Obala and setting up camp. The monster is still out there, its exact abilities unknown -- only that it is well over 100 feet long, with legs like a spider and a taste for flesh and metal.
