Official Statement

My name is War Lord Malentez Samiroon, Son of Unarsen and Himanoori, and unlike my brother Lainath, I have more sense than to throw gossip around that might incriminate my fellow warriors. I'd punch him in the face right now, but I'm enjoying beating the brothel slaves too much and can't be bothered. Perhaps my brother Lainath ought to look to his own household before throwing words around, because we all know that his slave girl Akiva made a scene the Night of Obala's Pride just before the sacrifice. She pled with Governor Hralib to spare their bitch priestess from the slaughter, and when he refused, she had nothing but murder in her eyes.

Background

Some people thought you'd never end up amounting to anything, because you always preferred swords to thinking games. But what they didn't know was that you had a brain in your head; you just had other priorities. Now that Hralib's dead, who's going to stand in the way for you to become governor? Anyone who does will meet the same fate... won't they?

Relationships

  • Lainath -- Malentez' little brother, the one with Firan blood, always trying to prove himself.
  • Zaridos -- Malentez' slave prince, who he turned into a gladiator.
  • Czar -- Malentez' part-bonduin slave. He's at least trustworthy and useful most of the time.
  • Savanna -- Malentez' favorite slave girl. She makes money for him by making and selling armor.
  • Keeli -- Malentez' Bonduin slave girl. One of his bitches, yo!

Goals

  1. Malentez should try to find an opportunity to shag Nobifa, the grieving widow
  2. Malentez should come up with humiliating tasks for his slave prince Zaridos to perform (beauty contests, make him bark like a dog, etcetera.)
  3. Malentez should officiate the gladiator games at the colloseum at the end of the evening, and make sure they fight to the death.
  4. Malentez should put money down on the gladiator games.
  5. Malentez should find out who raped his slave girl Savanna on a recent raid, and make them pay. Nobody touches his slaves without his say so.
  6. Impregnate Savanna -- Malentez wants a daughter of his own that he can keep forever.

Malentez Round One

Round One Reveal

Everyone knows that Akiva pled on her knees with Hralib not to let Tatomir sacrifice her aunt Fidelia at the Night of Obala's Pride, but Hralib told her that Fidelia was old and useless to him as a slave. Akiva was also whipped for her insolence, but it was clear from her eyes that she would never forgive him.

Everyone and Aylina knows that Hralib's young son, his favorite, disappeared shortly after they settled in Anarinuell. The boy was not even old enough for the gauntlet, and now that he's presumed dead, Hashi is the only heir.

Hralib gave Throgana the some Firan medallion to wear as jewelry, and this infuriated his slave Zaridos beyond measure. Malentez' slave prince vowed to strangle Throgana with the trinket if need be. Maybe he did.

Malentez may have challenged Hralib to a spicy eating contest, but it was Aylina who did the cooking.

Hralib had approached Malentez about buying Savanna because she was a high wage earner as a slave and armoror, and she could be handy for the the planned offensive to crush the rest of the Firan Republic. But Malentez had no plans of giving her up, and Hralib couldn't have made him do it anyway.

Malentez really didn't want to say anything about it, but Lainath felt particularly humiliated in front of Hralib that he could not control his slave Akiva, and let her beg for Fidelia's life before the sacrifice. He took it out on Akiva by whipping and stocking her, but that might not have been enough to satisfy his rage.

And of course, Malentez really only wants to help his brother, but he knows Lainath caught Lucas freeing Akiva from the stocks and tending to her wounds, but he hasn't told anyone because he doesn't want to be further humiliated in front of the other Shamibelians for not being able to adequately control his slave--might he be protecting her from murder charges as well, for fear of how they'll reflect upon him?

Malentez know that Fara did not return right home after the Night of Obala's Pride, because she snuck off with Hashi. What would Hralib's son be doing with Hralib's step-daughter, another man's slave?

Round One Conceal

Actually, while Hralib couldn't make Malentez give Savanna up, he could bring enormous pressure to bear on behalf of the Empire. So Malentez is happy that Hralib is dead, on the one hand. Besides, with Hralib dead, Malentez could be in consideration to be made Governor.

On the other hand, with Hralib dead, the pressure to marry Nobifa is likely to mount.

See, having an affair with a married woman like Nobifa is one thing. There's a certain thrill in it. Especially knowing that if her husband found out, someone would have to end up dead. But he's not sure he's ready for more commitment now that she's single.

Nobifa had invited Malentez to make a challenge for her hand in marriage, but that he thought it was best to wait until after Hralib had finished clearing her land and set her up properly in Anarinuell.

Besides, Malentez had other marriage options on the table. Hralib was trying to set Tabitha up in a marriage with Malentez, in spite of her brother Bivin's objections. And Tabitha has huge tracts of land.

Malentez had been training lately with his sword.

Malentez received a messenger wearing a butterfly mask in the wee hours of the morning, the night Hralib was killed, and he went out into the dark with her. The messenger was actually Nobifa who asked him to help her get rid of Hralib.

When Malentez returned to his tent in the wee hours of the morning, he was shivering and wet.

Sure, Malentez would love to be the next Governor of Anarinuell. Who wouldn't want such a prestigious post? But the only way to get it is the support of your fellow Shamibelians. Just killing Hralib wouldn't be enough.

Round One Props

  • A Skull-Of-Nydiam Mug
  • Sword

Malentez Round Two

Round Two Reveal

The rug Hralib was found wrapped up in, was an old Tibenya heirloom that Pevifa brought with her to Anarinuell after the invasion.

Savanna was recently raped during a raid, and that though she didn't get a good look at the raiders, she always was sure it was Hralib that did it.

If Hralib had bought Savanna away from Malentez, and made her an armorer for the army, it would have been nearly impossible for her to buy her freedom. Plus, she would be a traitor against the remaining Free Firan Republic.

Malentez was reluctant to sell Savanna to Hralib because he was hoping she was pregnant with his daughter, and wanted to keep a daughter with him as a slave. It concerns him that Savanna was seen exchanging vials with Hralib whenever he visited.

When Savanna was making armor for Hralib, he decided, on a whim, that it should be ornamented with a token of the last Firan who tried to kill him, and gave her Udettos and Aylina's wedding necklaces to melt down.

Orsatos was supposed to take the 3am shift of guarding the Great Library after the Night of Obala's Pride, from raiders, but Malentez would bet that he was not on duty.

Hralib's body was wrapped in a rug tied with blue ropes. Isn't Empyrean trying to learn ropemaking?

Forlanis used to live on Nobifa's land, and when Hralib married her, he kicked Forlanis out. Forlanis never forgave him.

Malentez remembers that Forlanis recently wondered aloud what the penalty would be for one Shamibelian murdering another--not during a challenge, but taking someone unawares.

Bivin doesn't want Tabitha to get married because then he'd have to go find his own wife or live in tents as a nomad, and Bivin kind of likes having a roof over his head.

Round Two Conceal

Last night, when Nobifa came to get Malentez, she told him that Hralib was dead and begged him to help get rid of the body. He assumed that she killed Hralib, because when he got to the Great Library, Hralib was laying dead in the fire. Together they concocted a plan to move the body to Vitara Pevifa's land, where the old Firan temples are.

By Shamibelian law, if a dead body of a Shamibelian master is found on property being cleared for a woman, the property is considered haunted and forfeit to the state. Nobifa didn't want to lose the Great Library as her new mansion, and wanted her rival sister-wife to lose her land instead. So they moved the body.

The problem was, Hralib was covered with ashes from all the scrolls in the Great Library that he was burning. Malentez got the idea to wash him off. So they wrapped him up in a rug Malentez brought along, and they tied him up with some blue ropes they found laying near the body.

Since Orsatos was not on guard, Malentez and Nobifa dragged the body to the old temple district, and dumped it into the pool of Zin. Malentez had to climb into the frigid water with Hralib's corpse to get it clean. He didn't think to check the mouth . . .

Once Hralib was washed off, they dropped the wet body under the Great Marble Arch, where it apparently froze.

The rug that Hralib was found wrapped up in was stolen from Pevifa's house by Malentez during one of his raids.

Round Two Props

Round Two Additional Goals

  1. Order a slave to sing everything they say, or you'll kill them.
  2. Order a slave to rhyme everything they say, or you'll kill them.
  3. Order a slave to bark like a dog every time you're around, or you guessed it, kill'em.
  4. Get commitments of support from other Shamibelians for your bid as the new Governor.
  5. Secure Tabitha's affections while either not alerting Lainath or convincing him to give up on her.
  6. Once Tabitha's affections are secure, either stand for her land, or use it as a threat to secure Bivin's support in Malentez's bid for Governor.

Malentez Round Three

Round Three Reveal

Malentez wonders why Nobifa would kill Hralib when she could have simply invited another man to issue a challenge for her, and then chosen something that Hralib was bad at?

Malentez believes that Ladonna is a permit forger. She frequently delivers permits to slaves when she visits their masters to sing songs and entertain.

When Malentez and Nobifa dragged Hralib's body to the temple of Zin, they smelled fire, like a funeral pyre, and it was burning in the Temple of Unot.

Round Three Additional Goals

  1. Malentez should, subtly, make sure the money he put down on the gladiator match comes back to him.
  2. It might be even more advantageous, however, to promise to fix the match for additional support for Governor. He can even cover himself by losing a little money. One way or the other, though, this match should work for him.
