Master Clues Document LARP 2007
From FiranMUX
Purpose of this Document
This is the major working document for the larp. In it will contain the clues that incriminate and involve every character in the larp with the main plot arc. When it's complete, it will be turned into a text document and all references to a given character will be pulled out for their sheets, one grep at a time. Because of this, it's important to use their name in any sentence that relates to them, or it will not end up on their sheet. Also, it is important that each clue about a character be on its own line.
Rules for This Page
Never add anything to this page without putting your signature stamp after it.
Avoid doing it unless you're sure Steph would approve of it.
If you're having a random idea, it might be better to put it on this page: Suspects and Motives LARP 2007 which is open for volunteer brainstorming and is read every day.
You may also wish to consult the Clue Tally Sheet to see who has too many or too few clues.
Format of the Entries
Below is an example from last year's larp of what a typical entry should look like when it's complete:
Ojitar: A Protective Husband and Heir Statement: I'm not sure I can shed much light on Nydiam's Murder. The night he died, my father, Clan Leader Jalil, challenged Nydiam to a duel. Nydiam responded by saying it should be a drinking duel, and proceeded to drink my father to unconsciousness, at which point he had to be carried upstairs until he could recover. I went upstairs to check on my father's health. I'm sure if anyone could shed light on this, it would be my little brother, Lord Father Emil Firgalik-who seems to have spent so much time with Clan Leader Nydiam in his final days that he practically had his own room in the estate. Goals: 1. Ojitar thinks that Tia murdered Nydiam, so will protect her even by implicating himself. 2. Ojitar should ruin his brother Emil so that he can take the medallion. 3. Ojitar should sleep with a White Dove girl and get some gambling in. Motive to Kill Nydiam: The night of Ania's Birthday Party, Jalil met with Ojitar at the Diplomat to inform him of the plan. Paulina and Judante overheard that Ojitar did not approve, and argued with Nydiam in a suspicious manner that made Jalil look guilty of planning murder. Galadra, Mateo and Laytania knows that Ojitar thought that Nydiam's conversion to monotheism was a direct threat to his ascension to the throne-especially since he was giving undue influence to Emil. Emil, Mateo and Lilana knows that Ojitar found out about Nydiam's plan to replace Jalil with Emil so that they could get the staff of the high priest/priestess for the Gold Dragon clan, before the Bears could get it. Lady Tia, Ojitar's wife, has recently become convinced that Clan Leader Nydiam murdered and mistreated her mother, Lady Lucretia-might he have killed Nydiam to appease his wife? Asishon knows Ojitar sent Lady Tia away for a trip to Istagadin "for her health" the day after the murder-was she witness to his treachery? Means/Opportunity to kill Nydiam: Teonia knows that Lady Tia, as Lucretia's daughter, had some of the keys to the IstaNydiam mansion-might she have given them to Ojitar and he used them to get upstairs and murder the Clan Leader? Galadra and Zerasmus and Lilana saw Ojitar follow Nydiam upstairs, making an excuse that he wanted to check on his father's health, but soon after, there was an argument heard. At midnight, Jalil, Jinna, and Emil saw Lady Tia trying to pry a vial out of Ojitar's hand in the lounge-could there have been poison in that vial, and Lady Tia didn't want Ojitar to murder her stepfather with it? Anorna convinces Ojitar to take her somewhere more private--like the empty entry hall-at 2:15am. She found a vial on Ojitar, which she assumed was fertility potion, so she took it and Susia later told her it was poison. Susia knows that Anorna found a vial of poison on Ojitar's person during Ania's birthday party. Ania, Teonia and everyone knows that Ojitar had not left the party, but was missing for a long time-and even missed the speech that he was supposed to give to honor Clan Leader Ania's birthday. Alibi/Scapegoat: In truth, Tia tried to kill Nydiam and Ojitar tried to stop her before she could.
Format of Clues
Keep each clue on its own line (preferably in one sentence).
In every clue, be sure to avoid pronouns like the plague. Make sure to include the name of the person who knows the clue, as well as the name of the person that the clue implicates.
If it's a clue that everyone or anyone could conceivably know, and bring up during the larp, start the clue with Everyone knows. (ie. Everyone knows Pevifa was Hralib's wife and very jealous.)
If it's a clue that another larp character should know, but you haven't decided who knows it, or how they know it yet, start the clue with Someone knows. (ie. Someone saw Nobifa dunking Hralib in the water to wash him off.) When all the clues are down, we'll go back through the document and replace every someone with the name of a character that would work for the particular clue.
Other Plots

Notes From Steph
Ok, it's time to start filling in all the Someone's. Please don't _replace_ them. Just put your suggestion for who the someone could be in parenthesis, with your namestamp. I'll be giving out CP per idea I use! ;)
Notes To Steph
I noticed we have a lot of female players who haven't made picks yet! We don't have any female halfies. What about Harmonia? Also perhaps give the HP of Obala a halfie daughter that's owned by Hralib or something? - Feydra
Ideas. Prima and I tossed around lots of ideas about Empyrean and Rodiste but you said they might not work for him. Essentially we were trying to find more things for them to do. Starting with Fara wanting to get knocked up by Bivin or some other male Shami in order to have a full blood baby. This backfires and she ends up knocking boots with Emp or another Firan. Since masks are worn the night of Obala's Pride... This is also where the orange grease paint comes in. Empyrean could have been wearing it while snooping about for Taleo's cup, ending up smeared in various places, connecting a clue to him and whoever else might have been wearing it. Not to mention who made it. - Jafira and Prima brainstorm.
Another idea, if Fara ended up sleeping with an orange paint wearing Fira, the paint could have transfered to Hralib's body somehow if she managed to touch it helping out moving him or whatever. - More Jafira and Prima brainstorming.
Shamibelian Women
Fissia: The Pregnant Daughter-in-Law
Statement:
My name is Vitara Fissia Tibenya, Daughter of Richelle and Venet Tibenya, Wife of Pike Hashi Vettle. I think this is a complete farce, and that my sister is overwrought with her husband's death. And who could blame her? You've all seen how rattled she's been in recent days--to get so jealous of a slave like Throgana that she slapped her on the Night of Obala's Pride? My sister simply hasn't been herself, so we must forgive her for interrogating us like slaves.
Relationships:
- Fissia is married to Hashi who she can't stand.
- Fissia is Pevifa's sister and they are allies.
- Fissia is the aunt of Tabitha and Fara. She likes them both and feels sorry for Fara.
- Fissia's ex-husband is Scithvor.
Goals:
- If Hashi insists on gifting Fissia off, she should see to it that Hralib's slaves take the blame for his murder so that Hashi inherits nothing.
- Fissia should find another man to challenge Hashi for her hand in marriage, so that she isn't just gifted off--what an embarrassment that would be.
- Fissia has had nothing but sons, and she desperately wants a girl to carry on her line. She should arrange with her sister to trade babies when they're born as per Shamibelian custom.
- Unless Fissia thinks she stands to gain from Hashi's potential new wealth of slaves, she should get Hashi killed at the first opportunity.
- Fissia should threaten Hashi that if he gets Tatomir to enforce a Last Will and Testament of Hralib's that disinherits Hashi completely.
- Fissia should find a way to use a Last Will and Testament she had forged to leave all Hralib's slaves to the man of her choice--she just has to fill in the blank.
Motives to Kill Hralib/Throgana:
Emma has heard that Fissia once wished aloud that she would rather see all of Hralib's slaves dead, than see Hashi inherit them if he gave her away--and the other day, Emma overheard Hashi telling Hralib he was thinking of giving Fissia to a new husband as a gift.
Everyone knows that Fissia lived on the edge of poverty because her husband Hashi never had enough talented slaves to work her lands, or fill her shops. Hashi stands to inherit all of his father's slaves when he dies, so might not his wife gotten tired of waiting for him to get slaves of his own, and killed Hralib so that they could inherit?
On the other hand, Gilin, Yvette, Aylina, Akiva and Lucas know that Fissha can't stand Hashi, thinks he's a worthless husband, and wishes fervently that he would die. Why would she kill Hralib and thus ensure him inheriting his father's slaves . . . unless she knew they'd be blamed for the murder and killed off before Hashi could inherit a thing. (Akiva knows because Aylina told her, and Lucas knows because Akiva told him.)
Yvette knows that Fissia once asked her if, because she was noble, she was literate, and whether or not she could write Shamibelian documents for her.
Emma knows that Fissia was very nervous on the Night of Obala's Pride when she came to get done up for the party.
Emma knows that Fissia seems to have had something against Throgana, because it annoyed Fissia to see Emma getting Throgana ready for the party, and told her that she was just a stupid slave who was going to ruin her nails with her nasty nail-biting habit anyway, so why bother making her pretty?
Everyone knows that Fissia showed up to the Night of Obala's Pride wearing a costume that matched her husband's dog, Spike, and was carrying him around the party. At first it just seemed gauche, but it bothered Hralib. He muttered angrily, ""And Obala said, let the men be keepers of the living, and the women be keepers of things . . ." He said that he was going to make Hashi take the dog away from her. She's so devoted to that animal, she'd have killed Hralib to stop that from happening.
Means and Opportunity to kill Hralib/Throgana:
Hashi, Gilin, Yvette, Aylina, Dyanna, and Akiva know that Hashi's dog Spike is devoted only to Fissia and that she has trained it to kill on command. It could have left the scratch mark on Hralib's body and bitten off his finger.
Bivin, Hashi, Scithvor, Aldrin, and Inaya know that Fissia brought that stupid dog Spike to the Night of Obala's Pride and it attacked Fara. (Fara's fellow slaves all know, as well as her master, and her brother.)
Zaridos and Savaren and Other know that just as Throgana and Hralib were leaving the Night of Obala's Pride, Fissia let Spike loose, and told him KILL!
Yvette, Hashi and Katriana know that Fissia makes earrings in her spare time, to supplement their meager income and support her lands.
Pevifa heard a dog barking and growling near the Temple District on the Night of Obala's Pride. Is it a coincidence that Hralib ended scratched up and without a finger? (She was there digging up his secrets.)
Hashi, Yvette, Aylina, Gilin, Scithvor, Fara, Tabitha and Other knows that Fissia threatens slaves by telling them that if they don't obey, she'll cut off their fingers and feed them to Spike.
Alibi/Scapegoat:
Fissia is innocent of trying to kill Hralib and Throgana--it was Hashi she was trying to kill the Night of Obala's Pride by sending her dog after him.
Tabitha: The Bachelorette
Tabitha Tibenya is the most eligible Bachelorette in all Anarinuell. Not only does she have huge . . . tracts of land, but she's said to be quite lovely under that burka, and more than a few men have eyed her bared ankles at the Night of Obala's Pride. Of course Lainath Samiroon has his eye on Tabitha, and she wants to marry him, but Hralib refused to allow it because of he's part Firan.
Statement: I fail to see how accusing each other is going to accomplish anything, but my mother insists that I keep this official, so my name is Vita Tabitha Tibenya, and I am a bachelorette. In any case, I agree that my step-father's slaves are probably the ones who killed him and will all be executed tonight... even you, poor Emma. I'm going to miss how you polish my nails and horns! So, because I would like to keep you as a stylist, I must point out that the slave whore called Aylina--she hated my step-father. Every time she saw Hralib wearing his new armor, she would scowl at him across the room. Don't deny it, I saw it!
Goals:
- Tabitha should convince her mother, Pevifa to let her marry Lainath Samiroon now that Hralib is dead.
- Tabitha should find ways to spend time with Lainath properly--she'll need an intermediary.
- Tabitha should have a fight with her sister Fara (about what?)
- Tabitha should convince Tatomir that the old rules against talking directly to Shamibelian men who aren't related to you should be relaxed, especially for single women like Tabitha who aren't married and therefore, can only depend on her brother's slaves to attend her.
- Tabitha should try to find a way to get her sister Fara out of slavery.
- Tabitha should persuade men to get their slaves to fight like gladiators for her amusement.
- Tabitha should arrange for a breeding between her brother's slave and some other suitably docile Firan man--one can never have too many slaves.
Motives to Kill Throgana/Hralib:
Nobifa knows that Hralib refused to let Tabitha marry the man she loved, Lainath, and she wished him dead because of it.
Everyone knows that Tabitha is a popular, but fickle, bachelorette. Many Shamibelian warriors have fought for her hand, and were defeated by Hralib or scared off. She probably got sick of being unmarried and decided to get rid of her step-father instead!
Nobifa, Emma, Melani, Jalil, Feathyr and Bivin knows that Hralib wanted to marry Tabitha off to one of his old friends, but she got it in her head that she was of the new 'liberal' generation, and was in love with Lainath Samiroon, who through a convoluted set of legal maneuvers, is a Shamibelian Warrior with some Firan blood. Hralib said that he'd let her marry Lainath "over my dead body" so it seems she gave him his wish!
Everyone knows that Tabitha was flirting outrageously with Lainath at the Night of Obala's Pride. If Hralib had seen her, he might have sent her back to Ellish, and she hates Ellish enough to have killed him over it.
Means and Opportunity to kill Throgana/Hralib:
Everyone knows that Tabitha was Hralib's step-daughter and that she had access to him all the time.
Gilin and Aylina know that Yvette loaned her earrings to Tabitha for the Night of Obala's Pride.
Lainath, Bivin, Emma knows that the pair of earrings in Hralib's pocket were worn by Tabitha on the Night of Obala's Pride.
Fara and Nobifa know that on the Night of Obala's pride, Hralib chastised Tabitha for flirting with Lainath, and demanded that she take off her slutty Firan earrings.
Sarina, Empyrean and Lucas know that Tabitha was watching Hralib the entire party, and that when she saw him slip out with Throgana, she followed. (Lucas knows, because he was also watching Hralib like a hawk so that he could leave.)
Rodiste doesn't remember much the Night of Obala's Pride, but he has faint recollections that Tabitha and Lainath were talking to one another in the catacombs late that night. Where they plotting Hralib's death so they could run off and marry?
Aylina saw Lainath and Tabitha near the catacombs the night Hralib was killed--together, the two of them could have done it.
Alibi/Scapegoat:
Pevifa: Scheming Old Wife
Pregnant by Hralib, Pevifa made the trek all the way out to this barbaric Firan city to settle new lands, and he goes and dies on her. This is the thanks she gets?
Statement:
I'm sure some of you are sniggering behind your tea cups that my husband's body was found on my land this morning. I'm sure some of you are eager to suspect me. I can feel your cold glances. But if I took things laying down, my name would not be Pevifa Tibenya. Therefore, I have already received permission from Priest Tatomir to take official statements from each woman here today about the murder. If nothing else, the book of statements will make a keepsake for my unborn child to explain why it will be born without a father. So you, sister-wife Nobifa--don't be so smug. If his slaves didn't kill him, I'm sure it was you. By the authority of Obala, I demand a statement that includes your name and everything you know about Hralib's demise. Tabitha will write it down.
Goals:
- Pevifa should make Tabitha take down an "official" statement from each of the women at the tea house.
- Pevifa should prove that her rival and 'sister-wife' Nobifa killed Hralib.
- Pevifa should make her case before Tatomir that the Temple District should not be forfeit to the state, just because Hralib was murdered there.
- Pevifa should try to raise suspicion that Hralib might have actually died somewhere else, not her land.
Motive to Kill Hralib/Throgana:
Everyone knows that Throgana was Hralib's favorite slave, and that his devotion to her often earned her the anger of his wives like Pevifa.
Emma knows that ever since Pevifa got pregnant, she became unreasonably jealous of anyone who paid attention to Hralib, like Throgana. In fact, Pevifa intervened when she was dancing with Hralib, and slapped her.
Emma, Jalil and Other knows that after the altercation with Pevifa on the dance floor, Hralib and she briefly argued, then danced together. Trouble in paradise? What did he say to Pevifa while they were dancing that made her want to kill him?
Everyone knows that Pevifa was livid when Hralib not only married Nobifa but decided to take her to Anarinuell with them. She has always seen herself as the First Lady of Anarinuell, and to have her position usurped by Nobifa was something she never forgave in Hralib.
Tabitha, Fissia, Scithvor knows that the real reason Pevifa refused to give land to her daughter Fara and let her fall into slavery is because the girl tried to seduce Hralib. Might Pevifa have come to blame Hralib for her estrangement from her daughter, and wanted him dead for it?
Nobifa knows that Pevifa was so unsure about her relationship with Hralib that she even suspected her own daughter. Better yet: Hralib even considered his stepdaughter more interesting than his own old wife?
Fara, Scithvor, Bivin, Inaya, Aldrin and Aylina know that Pevifa feels extremely spiteful towards her daughter, and knew that Hralib was advocating on Fara's behalf. She might have killed him for it.
Nobifa, Sarina and Melani know that Pevifa and Hralib had recently had bitter arguments over Fara's enslavement, because Pevifa does not want her freed. (Hralib told them in bed.)
Means and Opportunity to kill Hralib/Throgana:
Orsatos knows that when he stumbled back to Pevifa's house to sleep, and tend to the bump on the back of his head, he was shocked to find the mistress awake, and surly. She gave him some excuse about how she'd had a dream revelation from Obala, and made him leave the house immediately to go spy on Nobifa. But Orsatos strongly suspects that she just wanted him out of the house.
Nobifa strongly suspects that Hralib must have gone to inspect the Temples on Pevifa's property, and was somehow killed there, on Pevifa's land. Such a shame, now it will have to be forfeit to the state.
Everyone knows that Pevifa was Hralib's wife--she had access to him at all times if she wanted to kill him.
Perdita, Orsatos, Jalil, Rodiste, Empyrean, Orsatos and Brizo know that Pevifa was nagging Hralib to clear the Temple of Zin for her, and make it habitable, because she had chosen it to be her personal bath house.
Malentez, Nobifa, Tabitha, Fara, and Emma know that the rug Hralib was found wrapped up in, was an old Tibenya heirloom that Pevifa brought with her to Anarinuell after the invasion.
Savaren and Other saw Pevifa sneak off from the Night of Obala's Pride. Where might she have been going?
Hashi and Fara saw Pevifa with a shovel, under the Great Marble Arch on her plantation--the very spot where Hralib later turned up dead. A shamibelian woman with a shovel? That's beyond suspicious. Was she laying in wait for him? Did she knock him out, then tie him up so that it would be easier for her to kill a strong warrior like Hralib? (They stayed quiet about it because they didn't want anyone to know they were alone together--well Fara didn't anyway.)
Alibi/Scapegoat:
Fissia, Tabitha and Other know that Pevifa frequently went to inspect her lands, and make sure they were being cleared properly, and to memorize their boundaries. She didn't usually go in the dark, or with a shovel, but there's certainly nothing incriminating about her being on her own plantation.
Pevifa knows that she wasn't laying in wait to kill Hralib with a shovel. She was at the Marble Arch to dig up his box of secrets so that she could get power over him.
Everyone knows that Hralib was a strong warlord. How could a weak woman like Pevifa abduct, drown, and kill him?
Tabitha wonders why Pevifa would kill Hralib when she could have simply invited another man to issue a challenge for her, and then chosen something that Hralib was bad at?
Everyone knows that with Hralib dead, Pevifa is about to lose all the slaves that work her estates and bring money in to her coffers. Why would she want to kill him?
Nobifa: Scheming New Wife
Statement:
My name, as you very well know, is Vitara Nobifa Vettle, Daughter of Anobis and Sasha Vettle , Wife of General Hralib Vettle, Governor. I would point out that I am grieving for my husband and do not appreciate being grilled about his death. His body was found on my sister-wife's property, but unlike her, I am too classy to accuse her. As far as I'm concerned, Hralib's slaves must have killed him. That's the presumption, isn't it? Besides, if we go digging too much we might embarrass ourselves. After all, Pevifa, your own daughter, Tabitha had as good a motive as anyone to kill our husband. Tabitha is in love with that dreadful Samiroon creature, Lainath. Hralib refused to let her marry him--perhaps she did away with him so she could have the marriage of her choice.
Goals:
- Nobifa should insist that Slave Emma the beautician make her beautiful and call her mistress--must enjoy the girl before she's given to Hralib's son Hashi, or auctioned off.
- Nobifa should prove that her "sister-wife", Pevifa is the real murderer.
- If Nobifa can't prove that Pevifa did it, she should at least prove that Hralib was killed on Pevifa's land.
- Nobifa should get Malentez to marry her. With Hralib gone and his slaves executed, she won't have anyone to clean her house unless she remarries!
- Nobifa should win a bet with Fissia--and the stakes should be Hashi's Skull-Cup.
- Nobifa should win a game of cards--she's a shark!
- Nobifa should try to arrange for the breeding of some good slave stock for Malentez--after all, she'll need good servants.
Motive to Kill Hralib/Throgana:
Everyone knows Nobifa was Hralib's newest wife, and not entirely thrilled to be claimed by him.
Pevifa knows that Nobifa was insulted when Hralib decided that he would clear the Great Library for her, but he would clear all the Temple District for Pevifa and that Pevifa would have the finest mansions and estates in the realms.
Emma, Jalil, Orsatos, Melani, Perdita, Brizo, Rodiste and Empyrean know that Nobifa made a very public showing of her upset that she hadn't yet gotten pregnant by Hralib, and she blamed his attentions on Throgana for it.
Lainath, Ladonna, Savanna, Zaridos, and Czar know that Nobifa was having an affair with Malentez Samiroon. Could Hralib have found out about it, and been on the verge of killing her for the insult to his honor?
Anorna, Emma, and Inaya knows that Nobifa was taking herbs to keep from getting pregnant--in Shamibelian culture, a marriage is not official until the first child is born. Could Nobifa have killed Hralib to keep him from finding out about her treachery?
Savanna (because she's Malentez' slave) and Melani (Because she frequently tended to Nobifa for Hralib) know that Nobifa had invited Malentez to make a challenge for her hand in marriage, but that he thought it was best to wait until after Hralib had finished clearing her land and set her up properly in Anarinuell.
Orsatos followed a trail of ashes in the snow that led them to Nobifa's house in Kamnestra Hall this morning before the snow melted. (Pevifa sent him on a mission to follow Nobifa and see if he could dig up dirt on her.)
Means and Opportunity to Kill Hralib/Throgana:
Everyone knows that as Hralib's wife, Nobifa had access to kill him at any time.
The night Hralib was killed, Jalil knows that Nobifa returned to her home (in Kamnestra Hall) and her burka was covered in ashes. (Jalil was assigned to guard Mistress Nobifa's property from raiders, at night.)
Jalil and Perdita knows that on the night Hralib was murdered, Nobifa didn't return home until (when?). What respectable Vitara stays out so late unless she's up to sin and mayhem?
Everyone knows that the Shamibelians were burning all the scrolls in the Great Library to make way for Nobifa to convert that building into her mansion, and that it was littered with piles of ash.
Brizo witnessed Nobifa and Malentez dallying by the Temple of Zin when he woke up from consciousness after being stabbed. It looked to him like Nobifa was watching Malentez bathe in the icy cold water.
Inaya knows that the water in the Temple of Zin's reflecting pool was grey and polluted on the morning that Hralib died (she saw it when she ran into Brizo bleeding and begging for help) and remembers that Nobifa once suggested poisoning the pool in case the Firans tried to worship there again.
Alibi/Scapegoat:
Everyone knows that Hralib was a strong warlord. How could a weak woman like Nobifa abduct, drown, and kill him?
Malentez, Tabitha, and Fara wonders why Nobifa would kill Hralib when she could have simply invited another man to issue a challenge for her, and then chosen something that Hralib was bad at?
Nobifa and Malentez actually found Hralib dead in a pile of ashes in the Great Library, which was to become her new estate--she didn't kill him.
Everyone knows that with Hralib dead, Nobifa is going to lose all the slaves that work her lands and fill her coffers. Why would she want him dead if she didn't have another husband waiting in the wings?
Fara: Spurned Step-Daughter
Statement:
My name was Fara Tibenya, but when I came of age, my mother gave me no land and so I became Fara Samiroon, slave of Scithvor. It makes my blood hot to see my master, and other Obalan men questioned about the death of a Shamibelian Governor when we are surrounded by slaves. I think you should be ashamed, Ruffialo, for questioning my master this way. Everyone knows that Governor Hralib always chastised you for being too weak on Firan slaves, too soft, to explain why you did not get far in life, and that it gave you great offense. Perhaps great enough offense to kill him. But now look at you proving it true by treating my master and my brother Bivin like criminals. For shame.
Goals:
- Fara should get her mother, Pevifa to forgive her and give her land so that she'll be freed from slavery.
- Fara should serve her master, but in a zealous way that annoys him, so that he's eager to free her and be rid of her.
- Fara should ask Priest Tatomir to intervene on her behalf to achieve her freedom.
- Fara should try to get land from another woman if her own mother won't give it to her.
- If Fara cannot reconcile with her mother, then she should probably prove that her mother is guilty of the murder--turn about is fair play. Either that, or prove it so that she can blackmail her mother into giving her land and freeing her.
Motive to Kill Hralib/Throgana:
Perdita and Lainath know that the reason Fara was allowed to be sold into slavery without land to her name when she turned fourteen is because she attempted to seduce her mother, Pevifa's husband, Hralib. Some say that Fara blamed Hralib for her disgrace, and wanted him dead.
Means and Opportunity to kill Hralib/Throgana:
Everyone knows that Fara is a well-known herbalist, who has access to poisons of all sorts, including the most exotic Bonduin poisons. If she wanted a man dead, she could probably find a way.
Aldrin and Feathyr know that Fara fantasized aloud that if she could only find Hralib in great distress, and save his life, surely some woman would take pity on her, gift her land for her heroism, and it would guarantee her freedom!
Hashi, Anorna, Bivin and Aldrin knows that Fara intended to get pregnant by a full-blooded Shamibelian male, because if she gave birth to a pure-blooded son, it would strengthen her claim to freedom.
Renik and Tabitha know that Fara and Bivin concocted a plan to sleep together the Night of Obala's Pride, in masks--but that it went awry and Fara ended up having sex with someone else instead, a Firan!
Renik and Malentez know that Fara did not return right home after the Night of Obala's Pride, because she snuck off with Hashi.
Scithvor and Aldrin knows that Fara returned from the Night of Obala's Pride scratched up, and bleeding (she'd been bitten by Fissia's dog).
Melani and Brizo saw Fara and Throgana burying something (when?) the Night of Obala's Pride, and when Melani dug it up, it was a bloody knife.
Alibi/Scapegoat:
Fara knows that when she went with Throgana to help Hralib in the Great Library, he was already dead, face first in the dying fire.
Aldrin and Tatomir knows that Hralib was actually trying to intervene on Fara's behalf, to win her freedom from Scithvor, so why would she kill him?
Shamibelian Men
Forlanis: Altar Boy of Obala
Statement: As you all know, I, War Lord Forlanis Vettle, am soon to become a priest of Obala. Therefore, Priest Tatomir has sent me here to afford each of you the opportunity to purge the guilt of your soul before finding death in this arena during tonight's gladiator games. I am to get a statement from each of you telling me your name and everything you know about the murder of Governor Hralib--and his slave Throgana, though who really cares about her? Let's start with you, Czar. Everybody knows you're a trusted slave, so you have permits to go and do pretty much anything--you'd best eliminate suspicion of yourself right from the start.
Goals:
- Forlanis should "prove" that Scithvor killed Hralib so as to knock him out of the running for the priesthood.
- If Forlanis can't prove that Scithvor killed Hralib and Throgana, he should solve the crime so that Tatomir will be impressed with him, and make him a priest.
- Forlanis should convince Tatomir that he should be inducted as a priest of Obala and taught all their secret powers.
- Forlanis should figure out which Shamibelian man he will leave his slaves to once he becomes priest.
Motive to Kill Hralib/Throgana:
Sarina and Scithvor know that Hralib thought Forlanis was too good at managing slaves to become a priest, and tried to convince Tatomir not to accept him as an initiate. This infuriated Forlanis.
Sarina, Malentez and Lainath know that Forlanis used to live on Nobifa's land, and when Hralib married her, he kicked Forlanis out. Forlanis never forgave him.
Savanna knows that Forlanis believed that Throgana made faulty armor for him during last year's war season, and it almost got him killed on the battlefield. Actually, it was Savanna who weakened the metal and tried to get him killed.
Czar knows that Forlanis asked him to keep an eye on Throgana, and blamed her for making him faulty armor during last year's war season.
Means and Opportunity to kill Hralib/Throgana:
Caree and Katriana know that Forlanis has been buying docile-seeming girl-slaves from her, but turning them into assassins. He could have sent one to kill Hralib, a rival.
Tazira knows that Forlanis asked her whether or not, if he bought her, she'd be willing to kill for him.
Malentez remembers that Forlanis recently wondered aloud what the penalty would be for one Shamibelian murdering another--not during a challenge, but taking someone unawares.
Dyanna saw Forlanis drop a note, during the Night of Obala's Pride that said, 'On my signal, kill him.'
Alibi/Scapegoat:
Katriana knows that Forlanis was going to have her kill Scithvor, not Hralib, but the order never came.
*Bivin: This Bud's For You
Statement:
I shouldn't have to take this abuse, but if giving a statement will shut everyone up and let us get back to drinking and enjoying our slave girls, then so be it. My name is Charioteer Bivin Tibenya, Son of Dhralan. Governor Hralib is married to my mother, Vitara Pevifa Tibenya. Or at least, he was married to her until he turned up dead this morning. But I had nothing to do with it. I moved out of my mother's basement and onto my sister Tabitha's land months ago. Are we seriously doubting that Hralib's own slaves did him in? If so, then maybe we ought to cast suspicious eyes on Scithvor. After all, the only reason he's here is because he can't go back to Ellish after that raiding "accident" when he tied my father up, and let him freeze to death. That's eerily similar to the way Governor Hralib died, isn't it?
Goals:
- Bivin should mock other Shamibelians for their wimpy weapons--he's a charioteer and he uses a javelin. Best weapon ever.
- Bivin should keep Tabitha from getting married--he likes living on her land and isn't about to submit to the will of her husband.
- Bivin should call Feathyr "Scooby" a lot, and make her do pet tricks.
Motives to Kill Hralib/Throgana:
Everyone knows that Bivin didn't get along with Hralib very well when he lived with his mother, Pevifa, and that he was eager to move out right after he passed his Gauntlet.
Everyone knows that Bivin lives on his sister Tabitha's land, and together they make a tidy sum using his slaves.
Renik and Ruffialo knows that Hralib was trying to set Tabitha up in a marriage with Malentez, and Bivin wasn't happy about it.
Anorna, Malentez and Perdita know that Bivin doesn't want Tabitha to get married because then he'd have to go find his own wife or live in tents as a nomad, and Bivin kind of likes having a roof over his head.
Ruffialo, Feathyr, and Dyanna and Renik know that Bivin regularly enjoys his sister's huge tracts of land.
Renik, Pevifa and Teonia knows that Hralib was a holder of some of Bivin's secrets, and that Hralib kept his secrets hidden in a box he buried beneath the Great Marble Arch in the Temple District.
Feathyr, Pevifa and Renik know that Bivin has been growing red cap juice as a cash crop and selling it to the Free Firan Cities even though it has been outlawed by Tatomir.
Feathyr knows that when Bivin is stoned on red cap juice, he often mutters angrily about how he's going to kill Hralib.
Ruffialo (who told Anorna and Sarina) know that Bivin "accidentally" told one of Hralib's secrets--which wife he preferred--and that he has refused to get himself leeched for forgiveness. If Hralib found out, he would consider this a reason to kill Bivin. Maybe Bivin did it first.
Bivin, Ruffialo, Anorna and Sarina know that Hralib actually preferred Nobifa to Pevifa as far as wives go.
Means and Opportunity to Kill Hralib/Throgana:
Pevifa, Renik and Scithvor knows that when Bivin drinks red cap juice, he sometimes gets wildly violent.
Renik and Tazira knows that Bivin was drugged out of his mind on red cap juice the night of the murders, and can't remember a thing.
Everyone knows that Bivin was Hralib's step-son. He had access to him at any time, and could have killed him.
Alibi/Scapegoat:
Forlanis, Empyrean and Inaya knows that Bivin and Hralib were actually getting along better recently because Hralib agreed to try to get Bivin's sister Fara out of slavery.
Lainath: Look Whose Coming To Dinner
In some ways, Lainath is an abomination in the Shamibelian world. Due to a strange set of circumstances in which his mother, a haffie slave, was given land by her master's wife, she and her son were freed. Lainath is a quarterbreed, and far less orange skinned than the rest of the warriors. His horns are also not as prominent--something he's been teased about all his life. So he has to overcompensate. As such, Lainath is a very cruel Shamibelian--especially to slave girls, and Shamibelian women. He takes nothing but arrogant pride from the fact that even though he's a quarterbreed, he has Tabitha, one of the most eligible bachelorettes in the Empire interested in him.
Statement:
My name Pike Lainath Samiroon, son of Unarsen and Vaishali, and it's true that I am in love with the Governor's step-daughter and that I challenged him, as is our custom, for her hand in marriage. But if love is going to make me a suspect, I'll not be the only one. After all, everyone knows that my brother Malentez has eyes for Hralib's wife, Nobifa. Let's not be silly here. It was probably a slave who did it, and I, Lainath Samiroon, won't shed a tear for them.
Goals:
- Lainath should try to marry Tabitha.
- Lainath should keep other Shamibelian men away from Tabitha, or they might decide to make a challenge for her.
- Lainath should break Tabitha's heart, then get her to fall back in love with him. It's for the ego.
- Lainath should find ways to humiliate his Slave Prince Lucas, and put him in his place.
- Lainath should sell Lucas--when he's with Akiva, the two of them are nothing but trouble.
- Lainath should find a way of showing his control over his slaves or be humiliated in front of his peers (make them fetch like dogs, make them act like pieces of furniture, etc.)
Motive to Kill Throgana/Hralib:
Lucas, Akiva, Ladonna, Tabitha and Osirus know that Hralib forbid Lainath from marrying any of his step-daughters, because he is a quarterbreed, and Lainath is particularly violent against those who discriminate against him.
Everyone knows that Lainath challenged Hralib to battle several times for the hand of his step-daughter, Tabitha. Each time, Lainath was defeated, though narrowly. He might have given up trying to beat Hralib fairly, and murdered him instead.
Tatomir, Malentez, Scithvor, Lucas and Akiva know that Lainath felt particularly humiliated in front of Hralib that he could not control his slave Akiva, and let her beg for Fidelia's life before the sacrifice. He took it out on Akiva by whipping and stocking her, but that might not have been enough to satisfy his rage.
Hashi and Sarina know that Hralib suspected Lainath's slave girl, Akiva, of being a permit forger. Lainath is uber-sensitive about his reputation, and never wants to look soft on his slaves. Might he have killed Hralib to spare himself the humiliation?
Means and Opportunity to Kill Throgana/Hralib:
Savanna, Lucas and Ladonna knows Lainath is a good warrior--Hralib beat him a few times, but he was young and getting better all the time. He could have killed Hralib, especially if he took him unawares.
Tazira and Tabitha knows that Lainath was watching Hralib all night during the party, and that when he saw Hralib slip out with Throgana, he followed.
Rodiste had "a dream" while he was on duty that Lainath met with Tabitha, at the catacombs (when?) for some private time--forbidden by Shamibelian custom!
Alibi/Scapegoat:
While Lainath truely wishes he had kills Hralib, Akiva he was was spitefully abusing Lucas at the time. Lainath was so angry, he promises that he is going to make Lucas into a gladiator slave and that he'll die in the ring. First, he puts his eye out.
Also everyone knows that Lainath would have ripped Hralib apart not left him to die in the cold or used a woman's weapon like poison.
Fara knows that Lainath and Tabitha did take their leave of the party after Hralib left, but it wasn't to follow him--it was to meet in private, with each other!
Props for Lainath: Skull-of-Aldrikos Cup
Hashi: Hralib's Heir
As far as Hashi goes, he's a classic underachiever. He's got a few slaves, but nobody that's really productive to work the land. He's a good raider, when he wants to rape and pillage. But sometimes, Hashi's just not in the mood. Plus, most of his slaves are pretty females, so he doesn't really have enough strong men to work his wife Fissia's land, and they're pretty poor as a result.
Statement:
Look, as my father's heir, it is my sacred duty to find his murderer and avenge him. I have received permission from Priest Tatomir to take an official statement from each of you before we leave, so by the authority of Obala, I want your name and everything you know about my father's death. And I will start with your slave girl, Malentez. Just two days ago, my father was talking about buying Savanna for her armoring skills, and now he turns up dead, and the splendid armor she wrought for him is missing. Explain that!
Goals:
- Hashi should find out who murdered his father and avenge his father's death.
- Hashi should "prove" that none of Hralib's slaves killed him, otherwise they'll all be executed and he'll be out a lot of expensive property.
- Hashi should get Priest Tatomir to announce that Hralib died without a will, and therefore, his belongings go to Hashi, his only living son.
- Hashi should humiliate his 'pet prince' Savaren and keep him in line.
- Hashi thinks Tabitha would make a great new wife with lots of land for all the new slaves he's going to inherit to farm--he should find a way to talk to her alone and ensure that if he made a challenge for her hand, she would choose something easy that he could win.
Motive to kill Hralib/Throgana:
Scithvor, Tatomir, Bivin, Fara, Tabitha, Pevifa, Nobifa, Teonia and Sarina know that Hralib never approved of the fact that Hashi's main way of making money was renting out his slavegirls at the brothel. Hralib always thought Hashi should do more raiding and land clearing. The tension between father and son could have caused a fatal confrontation.
Fissia and Perdita knows that Hralib told Hashi that if he didn't start achieving, he would make a Last Will and disinherit him. Whoever inherits Hralib's slaves and livestock will become one of the richest men in the Empire. That's a powerful motivation for Hashi to have offed his dad. (Hralib also confided to Sarina that he was going to tell Hralib this.)
Akiva knows that Hashi asked her to show him her penmanship several times, and to mimic his father Hralib's signature. Now, what would he need a forged signature for?
Tatomir, Scithvor, and Mateo's Altar Boy knows that Hashi was trying to write up a Last Will and Testament to file with the priests. Did he think he was going to die, and why?
Yvette knows that Hashi was actually trying to forge a Last Will and Testament for Hralib in case his father decided to disinherit him.
Means and Opportunity to kill Hralib/Throgana:
Fissia and Teonia knows that Hashi and Hralib had an argument (when?) before the start of the Night of Obala's Pride. Hralib yelled at Hashi to "Shape up, or else."
Alibi/Scapegoat:
Everyone knows that Hashi can be notoriously lazy, and a serious partier. Wouldn't killing Hralib take too much time, planning and energy?
Props for Hashi: A skull-of-Rislan cup
Scithvor: Horny Hot Headed Raider
Statement:
I am Wing Commander Scithvor Vasaloo, Son of Pressel, Arrow of Obala and it's true that there was an unfortunate raiding accident back in Ellish. But I've come here to start over and put that behind me. Don't you all think it's rather suspicious that Governor Hralib's body was found with barely a scratch on him except for a missing finger? That sounds like witchery to me, the very kind that poisoners and potion makers like Ruffialo's slave Anorna engages in. Why not ask her what she had to do with it?
Goals:
- Scithvor should convince Tatomir that he has learned the self-control necessary to become a priest of Obala.
- Scithvor should "prove" that Forlanis killed Hralib, so that Tatomir won't make him a priest.
- Scithvor should enjoy his slave, Fara Tibenya whilst he still has her.
- Scithvor should resist pressure to give Fara up.
- Scithvor should convince Fara that she has no hope of getting free.
- Scithvor should make Inaya work hard for the money--she's his major wage earner.
- If Tatomir won't make Scithvor a priest, then Tabitha would make a great new wife with lots of land--he should find a way to talk to her alone and ensure that if he made a challenge for her hand, she would choose something easy that he could win.
Motive to Kill Hralib/Throgana:
Everyone knows that Scithvor was banished from Ellish for his exceedingly violent raids in which he accidentally killed other Shamibelians. What if Hralib's death was a violent raid gone wrong?
Bivin, Tazira and Fara know that when Scithvor accidentally killed someone during a raid in Ellish, it was because he tied them up and left them out in the cold where they froze to death. Eerily similar to Hralib's end, isn't it?
Tatomir and Inaya knows that what Scithvor wants most in life is to become a Priest of Obala, and he would do anything to impress Drik--even kill.
Tazira and Tatomir know that Hralib was trying to persuade Scithvor to free Fara Tibenya, a full blooded Shamibelian girl, and the daughter of Hralib's wife Pevifa. Even if Hralib could persuade Pevifa or another Shamibelian woman to give Fara land, Scithvor was reluctant to free her, and the two had a bitter quarrel about it on the Night of Obala's Pride.
Inaya and Fissia knows that Scithvor was bitterly resentful of Hralib trying to make him give up his full Shamibelian slave, Fara Tibenya, and that he was overheard to say, "I'll kill him before I let him take my slaves from me."
Fissia knows that Scithvor has a nasty temper. After all, she used to be married to him, and he got furious the day that she bet his Skull-of-Taria cup in a game of chance to Nobifa Vettle. By law, women own all the things, so there was nothing he could do about it, but he was so enraged that he gave Fissia to Hashi. She'll be damned if she gets given away again.
Means to kill Hralib/Throgana:
Everyone knows that Scithvor is a strong and violent raider who may not have had difficulty subduing Hralib or killing him.
Fissia and Teonia knows that Scithvor lost his Skull-of-Taria cup to Hralib when his wife lost it in a bet with Nobifa. So where did he get it, that he's been drinking from it all night?
Pevifa knows that the rug Hralib's body was found wrapped in was stolen during a raid, and she has always suspected that Scithvor is the one who stole it.
Alibi/Scapegoat:
Ruffialo: The Friendly War Lord
Statement:
Hi everybody. I hate to spoil your drinking and carousing, but as you know, I'm Warlord Ruffialo Vettle, Son of Permethris, and I've come on behalf of my brother, Priest Tatomir. This morning, he found the dead body of our Governor, Hralib, and he wants answers. He has sent me to get your statements, in writing. I will need your name, your relationship to Governor Hralib (and his dead slave, Throgana), as well as anything you know about the crime. And nobody leaves until I get it. I'd like to start with you, Charioteer Bivin, because everyone knows that Hralib was your mother's husband, and when you were living in her basement (*hide laughter*), you chafed under his rule. What better way to be able to move back in with your mother than to kill her nuisance of a husband, eh?
Goals:
- Ruffialo should challenge another man to a spicy food eating contest.
- Ruffialo should humiliate Anorna and find ways of making her prove her worth since she left him all those years ago for the Firans.
- Ruffialo suspects the Firans might try to use Hralib's death as an opportunity to revolt, so should learn anything he can to prevent that.
- Ruffialo should prove that none of his slaves were responsible for the murders or he'll be a laughingstock forever.
- Ruffialo should complain about losing a good breeding stud, Rodiste, if no one can prove that Hralib's slaves didn't do it. - Jafira
- Ruffialo thinks Tabitha would make a great new wife with lots of land--he should find a way to talk to her alone and ensure that if he made a challenge for her hand, she would choose something easy that he could win.
Motive to kill Hralib/Throgana:
Forlanis, Empyrean, Perdita, and Fara know that Hralib always told Ruffialo that he was too soft on the Firans and that's why he'd never get very far in life. Ruffialo took great offense to this.
Sarina, Aldrin, Anorna and Torianos know that Ruffialo had been converted to the Firan religion by one of their priests and was constantly fearful that Hralib would find out.
Inaya, Forlanis and Perdita know that some of the firebombs that Ruffialo used for his bombing runs over the remaining Free Firan Cities have gone missing, and Hralib was livid about it, blaming him for the loss.
Means and Opportunity to kill Hralib/Throgana:
Everybody knows that Ruffialo and Hralib got into a spicy food eating contest during the Night of Obala's Pride. Hralib conceded, saying, "Someday, this stuff is going to kill me." Maybe it did!
Inaya saw Ruffialo and Sarina sneaking onto the land that Hralib was clearing for Pevifa, where all the old Firan temples are, and where Hralib's body was found this morning.
Brizo and Yvette knows that Sarina and Ruffialo snuck off from the Night of Obala's Pride around (when?) and trespassed on Pevifa's property where the old Temple District used to be. Did they set a trap for Hralib and lay in wait?
Inaya knows that Ruffialo was worshipping Firan gods on the property that Hralib was clearing for his wife--if Hralib caught him, a scuffle was sure to break out. And what with a big sacrificial fire there, he could have pushed him in, then wrapped the body in a rug and dropped it outside.
Anorna and Forlanis knows that Ruffialo tracked ash into his tent when he finally got home, in the wee hours of the morning on the Night of Obala's Pride.
Alibi/Scapegoat:
Sarina knows that the real reason Ruffialo snuck off with her to the Temple District was to start a fire in Srenna's temple and sacrifice the hair of his enemies to the flame now that he has converted to pantheism.
Props for Ruffialo: A Skull-of-Amenik Cup
Tatomir: Priest of Obala
Statement:
I will have your attention, everyone! I am Priest Tatomir, Beloved of Obala, Possessor of Unspeakable Power! Our Governor, Hralib, was murdered this morning, and by law, if the true killer is not found by tonight, his slaves will all be executed. Just in case they are not guilty of this heinous crime, I will conduct an investigation to find out who killed him. If I find out, definitively, I may show mercy. For the time being, I demand a statement from each of you. I want your name and everything you might know about Hralib's death, or the death of his unfortunate slave girl Throgana. And we will start with you, Caree, since you are the only person here of questionable status as a slave trader. And I remember well how you complained last night that Hralib cheated you on the price of your last slave shipment. So what do you have to say for yourself?
Goals:
- Tatomir should kill and re-animate someone so as to ensure that he will be chosen as Hralib's successor.
- Tatomir should terrorize some slaves.
- Tatomir should enforce Shamibelian social rules and religious mandates.
Motive to kill Hralib/Throgana:
Everyone and Ruffialo knows that Tatomir was angry when Hralib was chosen to be Governor of Anarinuell instead of Tatomir--he was so angry that he put his electrifying hands on a hapless slave and sucked the life right out of him. Might he have been angry enough to murder Hralib because of it?
Ruffialo and Pevifa knows that Tatomir never approved of the marriage between Hralib and Nobifa, because Hralib was married to Tatomir's sister, and now to his niece, which he thinks is incestuous and wrong somehow. Or at least, just plain greedy.
Rodiste and Forlanis and Ruffialo knows that Tatomir has been experimenting with his new powers to re-animate the dead.
Tabitha, Scithvor and Aldrin knows that Tatomir believed that if he could resurrect someone powerful, like a Shamibelian Governor, that he would ensure himself lasting fame and glory with Obala, and would be justly rewarded. What if, infused with the power from the human sacrifices he attempted to do just that with Hralib, and it somehow went wrong?
Lucas knows that some of the documents he rescued from the Great Library indicate that Tatomir had an enormous motive to kill Hralib.
Everyone knows that Tatomir's "missing" Ring of Hate ended up in Hralib's money pouch. Now just how did that happen?
Means and Opportunity to kill Hralib/Throgana:
Everyone knows that it was Tatomir who actually found Hralib's body. Whose to say he isn't his killer, pretending to "find" Hralib's body exactly where he left it?
Everyone knows that Tatomir has priestly zappy powers and that he can suck the life out of people with his hands. What if he killed Hralib with his magic and then left him there to freeze?
Ruffialo and Dyanna know that Tatomir is missing his sacrificial knife.
Fara knows that Tatomir's bloody sacrificial knife was found near Hralib's body when Throgana found him dead.
Sarina, Gilin and Melani found Tatomir's bloody sacrificial knife amongst the stash of things that Throgana hid to cover up the crime scene of Hralib's death.
Alibi/Scapegoat:
Pevifa and Scithvor knows that Hralib and Tatomir had recently patched up their differences and that Tatomir had even gone to Hralib for advice on occasion--like he did when he was considering cancelling the Night of Obala's Pride because of some late march frost.
Akiva knows that she forged some of the documents that incriminate Tatomir, at Aldrin's request.
Ruffialo knows that he stole Tatomir's sacrificial knife for Aldrin.
Aldrin knows that he planted Tatomir's sacrificial knife on Hralib's body in the Great Library. Aldrin knows that he planted incriminating evidence near Hralib's body at the Great Library, to incriminate Tatomir.
Props for Tatomir: Skull Cup
Malentez: I'm Just a Gigolo
Statement:
My name is War Lord Malentez Samiroon, Son of Unarsen and Himanoori, and unlike my brother Lainath, I have more sense than to throw gossip around that might incriminate my fellow warriors. I'd punch him in the face right now, but I'm enjoying beating the brothel slaves too much and can't be bothered. Perhaps my brother Lainath ought to look to his own household before throwing words around, because we all know that his slave girl Akiva made a scene the Night of Obala's Pride just before the sacrifice. She pled with Governor Hralib to spare their bitch priestess from the slaughter, and when he refused, she had nothing but murder in her eyes.
Goals:
- Malentez should try to find an opportunity to shag Nobifa, the grieving widow
- Malentez should come up with humiliating tasks for his slave prince Zaridos to perform (beauty contests, make him bark like a dog, etcetera.)
- Malentez should officiate the gladiator games at the colloseum at the end of the evening, and make sure they fight to the death.
- Malentez should put money down on the gladiator games.
Motive to Kill Hralib/Throgana:
Savanna, Teonia, and Lainath know that Malentez was having an affair with Hralib's newest wife, Nobifa. Such an insult in Shamibelian culture would lead almost inexorably to a duel to the death and Malentez wasn't the kind to take risks. Hralib probably found out about him and Nobifa, so Malentez murdered him.
Means and Opportunity to Kill Hralib/Throgana:
Savanna, Zaridos, Tabitha, Fara and Czar know that the rug that Hralib was found wrapped up in was stolen from Pevifa's house by Malentez during one of his raids.
Bivin and Zaridos know Malentez had been training lately with his sword, and Hralib was always better with his mind than weapons, so Malentez could have killed him.
Savanna knows that Malentez received a messenger wearing a butterfly mask in the wee hours of the morning, the night Hralib was killed, and he went out into the dark alone.
Czar and Caree (who acquired the mask for her with trade goods) knows Nobifa attended the Night of Obala's Pride party in a butterfly mask.
Savanna, Czar, and Zaridos know that the rug from Malentez' tent was missing this morning.
Savanna knows that when Malentez returned to his tent in the wee hours of the morning, he was shivering and wet, so she sent a message to Inaya asking if there were any healing herbs she might have for a Shamibelian who caught cold from the elements.
Jalil, Torianos, Lucas, Savaren, and Zaridos know that the pool at the Temple of Zin was clear and sparking, with a little layer of ice on the top the Night of Obala's Pride, but now it's filthy with ash and there's a two-man-size-hole in the ice. They suspect Hralib was drowned there, and that the water simply froze on him after he was already dead.
Alibi/Scapegoat:
Lainath, Bivin and Czar know that Malentez was never known for subtlety. If he wanted to kill Hralib, wouldn't he have done it with his sword? And yet, Hralib didn't seem to have any stab wounds.
In truth, it was Nobifa who sent for him the night Hralib was killed, and when he got there, Hralib was already dead, laying face first down in the ashes of a fire. Malentez just helped her clean off and move the body.
Props for Malentez: A Skull-Of-Nydiam Mug
Firan Slave Girls
Puria: Last Minute Registrant
Katriana: Ninja or Nursemaid
Statement:
My name is Katriana Vettle, slave of Forlanis, and I strive to be worthy. I did hate that bitch, Throgana. And I didn't much care for Governor Hralib as a master either, but he sold me away to Forlanis and now I'm much happier. So why would I kill him? But everyone remembers the way Governor Hralib humiliated "princess" Teonia, making her be mated in public, and forcing her to have a bastard child born of that humiliation. If anyone would want to kill him, it'd be her.
Goals:
Motive to kill Hralib/Throgana:
Teonia and Empyrean knows that when Katriana was captured, her children were very sick, and Hralib thought they should be sacrificed instead of infecting everyone else with their germs. Katriana went to Throgana for help and entrusted her with the children, but Throgana turned them over to Hralib.
Everyone knows that Katriana used to belong to Hralib, and that when she did, Throgana persuaded Hralib to sacrifice Katriana's sickly children, and nurse their bastards instead.
Ladonna and Pevifa knows that Katriana was thrilled to be sold to Forlanis, and eager to get away from Hralib and Throgana, whom she hated. If Forlanis told her to kill them, it would be Katriana's pleasure to do so.
(Notes on Katriana - If Forlanis is going to become a priest of Obala that means that Katriana will be sold again this is an excellent motive - could she be angery/worried she will wind up back with Hralib. Maybe someone knows he was thinking of buying her back? - Feydra)
Means/Opportunity to kill Hralib/Throgana:
Nobifa and Osirus knows that Forlanis has been training Katriana as an assassin.
Forlanis, Scithvor, Ruffialo, and Empyrean knows that Katriana carries a concealed knife on her thigh.
Savaren and Tabitha knows that Katriana was very nervous the Night of Obala's Pride, and muttered something about a "bloody" job she had to do.
Alibi/Scapegoat:
Teonia: A Bismirched Princess
Statement:
I'm Teonia, and I was Governor Hralib's slave, so obviously, I didn't kill him. Every slave knows that suspicion would fall upon us first, and we wouldn't have dared. But everyone also knows that slaves, when they're first taken, are the most dangerous. So why aren't we asking Tazira here what her alibi is for last night since I happen to know that Governor Hralib inspected her for purchase just before the festivities of the Night of Obala's Pride began. Maybe she felt humiliated by his rough hands, maybe she wore poisoned lipstick when he kissed her. Who could say?
Goals:
Motive to Kill Hralib/Throgana:
Savaren and Empyrean knows that Throgana told Teonia she ought to thank Hralib for being kind enough to mate her to at least a nobleman like Rodiste, instead of whining and carrying on about how she was publicly humiliated and bred to another man, not her husband.
Means and Opportunity to kill Hralib/Throgana:
Alibi/Scapegoat:
Props: Teonia's infant bastard son, by Rodiste.
(Notes on Teonia - Ladonna's always sneaking about to take messages to various nobles including Teonia's husband Savaren. Perhaps Teonia (if she hasn't been informed about the resistance) believes her husband's involved with Ladonna and is seeking to blame her for the death out of misplaced jealiousy- Feydra)
Tazira: Fresh Meat
Statement:
I'm Lady Tazira Firgalik, slave of no one. Yet. And I don't know anything about Governor Hralib's murder. I just arrived here last night, after all. But it seems to me that the Shamibelians have beaten the slaves down pretty well here, and that if anyone killed him, it would be one of their own. Isn't it true that Priest Tatomir is the one who "found" Hralib's body? That's the best cover up for murder ever.
Goals:
- Tazira should tell her father and her sister that she's dying, and say her final goodbye's.
Motive to Kill Hralib/Throgana:
Katriana and Renik knows that it's always the slaves who are new that fight the hardest, and Tazira hasn't even been auctioned off yet. She is fiesty and would want to kill her oppressors like Hralib.
Emma and Ladonna (Lainath told her) knows that Tazira is secretly of quarterbreed blood, because her mother was raped by a young Shamibelian raider named Lainath--Emeelya never told a soul.
Means and Opportunity to Kill Hralib/Throgana:
Katriana and Osirus knows that in the aftermath of losing Anarinuell to the goats, Ojitar instituted reforms that enlisted even Gold Dragon women into the military, and taught his own wife and sisters how to kill.
Caree knows that Tazira is dying of a plague that only affects those with Shamibelian blood--if she came into close contact with Hralib, she might have gotten him sick with the goat-plague.
Alibi/Scapegoat:
Caree knows that Tazira is a hot commodity and never left unguarded until the auction tonight! There's no way she could have killed Hralib or Throgana.
Jalil knows that Tazira was raised a Good Gold Dragon Woman--how could she ever kill anyone?
Dyanna: Ice Queen
While a Firan, the powers that be cast Dyanna low, and made her a whore for cheating on her precious Inarus. Well, now the tables are turned, aren't they? Dyanna has risen to the role of overseer for the Shamibelians, and has untold privileges and freedoms. She loves nothing more than to abuse and keep other Firans in line.
Statement:
Just because you're all suspected of murder and slated to be executed by the end of the night, doesn't mean that excuses you from work. Priest Tatomir sent me to make sure that you keep digging, breaking rocks, and clearing this land to the very last minute. But you're in luck. He also sent me to get an official statement, including your name and what you know about your master's death, from each of you. If you can prove to him that none of you, or only one of you killed Governor Hralib--he might let you live. Why don't we start with Jalil--bet your pride smarts doesn't it? Went from being a big shot, a Clan Leader and a lord, to being a lowly slave, lower than even a whore you and your kind made me into. Bet you hate being a slave enough to kill Governor Hralib, don't you?
Goals:
- Dyanna should tattle anything she learns about what the Firans are planning to the Shamibelians.
- Dyanna should protect Aylina--she's the only family that Dyanna has left, and Aylina was always nice to her.
- Dyanna should make Aylina see the light--that life with the Shamibelians is wonderful next to that of living in Free Firan Cities.
- Dyanna suspects that Clan Leader Ania's children are being harbored somewhere in Anarinuell, and she means to find them and make them suffer in revenge for Ania throwing her in a brothel.
- Dyanna should keep the Firans in line--especially the "nobles". Not so noble now, are they?
Motive to kill Hralib/Throgana:
Caree, Tatomir, Savanna and Teonia know that while Dyanna didn't have any problem with Hralib, she thought that his slaves were getting above themselves, and acting haughty towards her. An example needed to be set, and getting them all executed would please Dyanna to no end.
Means and Opportunity to Kill Hralib/Throgana:
Everyone knows that Dyanna has permits for free travel, and is one of the Shamibelians most trusted slaves. She could have gotten away from the Night of Obala's Pride to kill Hralib without anyone thinking anything of it.
Tatomir, Schitvor, Osirus, and Czar know that Dyanna has been asking a lot of questions about how cold certain Firan buildings get, saying she needed to keep some things 'on ice' for her Shamibelian masters.
Tatomir knows that Dyanna has suggested, several times, that the Shamibelians should make the Temple District state property because the number of buildings there make it unsuitable for private living situations, and she thought Hralib could find a better estate for his wife Pevifa.
Czar and Fara knows that Tatomir sent Dyanna to inspect the Temple District, without Hralib knowing about it, to see if it would be more suitable as state property than a private estate for Hralib's wife Pevifa.
Teonia and Rodiste caught Dyanna snooping about the Temple District while it was being cleared out for Pevifa's things.
Teonia and Rodiste know that Dyanna was asking lots of questions about the various Temples in the Temple District and whether it was colder in Zin's Temple or the Resting Room in Unot's Temple.
Fara Czar and Caree knows that Dyanna thought an excellent punishment for errant slaves was to lock them in a cold room, and let them freeze to death.
Teonia knows that Hralib complained that his key to the Temple of Zin was missing, before the Night of Obala's Pride.
Jalil knows that Dyanna berated him and the rest of Hralib's slaves, the morning Hralib died, for not protecting their master, and showed him a key to the Temple of Zin that she claimed had fallen off Hralib's keyring because his slaves were such slobs they didn't even bother to keep his equipment together or pick up after him.
Sarina knows that the key to the Temple of Zin was missing from Hralib's keyring when she stole it off his body. Whoever took it (Dyanna), probably used it to lay in wait for him at the Temple and drown him when they got the chance.
Aylina got her aunt drunk and learned that Dyanna planned to lure Hralib into a temple on a cold night of the year, and lock him in, then make it look like his slaves did him in. (Caree and Tazira also overheard this.)
Savanna and Osirus knows that during the Night of Obala's Pride, Dyanna kept commenting on how "perfect" the weather was, even though it was freezing cold.
Alibi/Scapegoat:
Akiva thinks it's unlikely that Dyanna killed Hralib, because she spent much of the night beating her with a whip while she was in the stocks.
Everyone knows that Dyanna loves her new life as an overseer for the Shamibelians, and that she had nothing against Hralib whatsoever. Why would she kill him?
Perdita: Ticanee Red Tape
Statement:
My name is Perdita Vettle. I was Governor Hralib's slave, which is why I wouldn't have killed him. I know that suspicion immediately falls upon the slaves of a Shamibelian. Look instead to Father Brizo. Everyone knows that Brizo has been working in slavery as a brewer. Governor Hralib preferred his vintage, and bought several bottles of wine from him last night. Who knows what poison could have been in them.
Goals:
- Perdita needs to prove that someone other than Hralib's slaves killed him, or she and the rest of her fellow slaves will be executed by the end of the night.
- Perdita should find a way to get the Skull-of-Taria cup to a Firan priest who can give it proper funeral rites.
Motive to kill Hralib/Throgana:
Orsatos knows that he and Perdita both served as Hralib's administrative slaves, and that if someone was forging permits, it was probably her. Hralib would have killed her if he found out, so maybe she killed him first.
Nobifa knows that she won the Skull-of-Taria cup in a game of chance against Fissia. Hralib loved that cup almost as much as he loved the Skull-of-Taleo cup, and he didn't like the way that Perdita was always looking at it. Funny that both cups are missing now, Hralib is dead, and Perdita is acting so suspicious every time it's brought up.
Forlanis and Perdita knows that Hralib lost his Skull-of-Taria cup a few days before the Night of Obala's Pride, and was complaining bitterly about it. He suspected one of his slaves took it.
Inaya knows that Perdita stole Hralib's Skull-of-Taria cup. If Hralib found out about it, he likely would never have forgiven her for literally "toasting with the Oshta".
Scithvor knows that when he went to visit Hralib to ask him about a military issue, he found Perdita talking to Hralib's missing Skull-of-Taria cup. Scithvor had been pissed about Fissia losing him that cup in a bet last year, and now saw his opportunity to take it back. He told Perdita that if she gave him the cup, he'd keep it a secret that she stole the cup from her own master--and made her write it down, as is the custom. But maybe she didn't believe him, and thought she'd better kill Hralib before he found out.
Means and Opportunity to kill Hralib/Throgana:
Tazira and Katriana and Brizo knows that Perdita was seen literally talking to the Skull-of-Taria cup. It's not like she's got all her marbles, so it's not a far leap to decide she's capable of murder.
Savaren and Forlanis knows that Perdita spends a lot of time in the Slave Temple where no Shamibelian but Tatomir can go. She could be plotting anything there, and if anyone was going to chance upon Throgana and kill her in the temple, it'd be Perdita.
Alibi/Scapegoat:
*Feathyr: Good Puppy
Statement:
I am a good enough slave. I don't know what anyone could expect of me that I don't do. My name is Feathyr . . . Tibenya. . . and I think perhaps the poison angle is one that should not be overlooked. It isn't just Anorna who makes potions, but Fara too. Everyone knows that Fara is a well-known herbalist, who has access to poisons of all sorts, including the most exotic Bonduin poisons. If she wanted a man dead, she could probably find a way.
Goals:
- Feathyr should help the GMs set up for the LARP
- Feathyr should run messages for the citizens of Anarinuell for profit (the more she makes, the closer she is to buying her freedom)
- Feathyr should deliver messages 'creatively' when she feels like it, changing a key word or two as it pleases her.
- Feathyr should try to prove that someone _other_ than Hralib's own slaves killed him, because she must save Melani from execution.
Motives to Kill Hralib/Throgana:
Everyone knows that when Taleo was alive, and the Viceroy, he always favored the Ticanee. Those savages, like Feathyr couldn't stand that Hralib had made a cup out of Taleo's skull--she could have killed him to get it back.
Means and Opportunity to kill Hralib/Throgana:
Everyone knows that Feathyr is a messenger girl, and therefore, has permits for free travel anywhere within Anarinuell. If anyone could have snuck up on Hralib, it's Feathyr.
Alibi/Scapegoat:
Aylina: A Tasty Little Dish
Statement: My name is Aylina, I'm the slave of Hashi Vettle, his wife Fissia is my mistress, and I strive to be worthy. I know very little about how it is that Governor Hralib came to meet his end in such a terrible way, or how the slave Throgana ended up dead either. But I do know that my people harbor great resentments against Governor Hralib--even those that he is kind to, like Slave Emma. At the slave temple, we all gossip about the way he spoiled her and let her keep some of her money as a beautician. It is said that she was close to being able to buy her freedom, but that she feared he wouldn't let her go. Perhaps she killed him to make sure he wouldn't stop her.
Goals:
- Aylina should have a jealous spat with Anorna over who really loves Rodiste best.
- Aylina should "fatten up" the Shamibelians--it'll make them lazier and worse on the battlefield.
- Aylina should "flirt" with Shamibelians so that she can touch them and test how meaty they are.
- Aylina should come up with the names of exotic animals to say she has cooked up into treats. When people ask her what it taste like, she should say it tastes like goat!
- Aylina should seduce her clients by telling them how good they smell, or how good they taste.
Motives to Kill Hralib/Throgana:
Everyone knows that Udettos tried to kill Hralib during the invasion of Anarinuell, and that Hralib killed him, choking him to death with his golden wedding necklace.
Malentez, Savanna, Hashi, Nobifa and Pevifa know that when she was making armor for Hralib, he decided, on a whim, that it should be ornamented with a token of the last Firan who tried to kill him, and gave her Udettos and Aylina's wedding necklaces to melt down.
Tabitha, Savanna, Hashi, Fissia and Other know that Aylina was bitterly angry every time she saw Hralib wearing his armor.
Everyone and Aylina knows that Hralib's young son, his favorite, disappeared shortly after they settled in Anarinuell. The boy was not even old enough for the gauntlet, and now that he's presumed dead, Hashi is the only heir.
Hashi, Pevifa, Tabitha, Yvette, Gilin and Fara knows that Hralib's missing son favored Aylina as a whore, and some say he was in love with her.
Hashi knows that Aylina's a great little whore--she's a biter!
Means and Opportunity to Kill Hralib/Throgana:
Akiva, Yvette, Hashi, and Gilin, Rodiste and Dyanna know that Aylina has been known to put a potion or two, or special herb into her cooking.
Fissia and Other know that although Hashi insists on using Aylina as a brothel slave, she's actually becoming one of the most talented cooks in the city, and could make them a fortune if they used her talents in the kitchen.
Everyone knows that Aylina was serving some of her best spicy dishes on the Night of Obala's pride. She could have poisoned anyone she wanted to.
Malentez and Ruffialo know that when he challenged Hralib to a spicy eating contest, it was Aylina who did the cooking.
Akiva and Lucas know that there was a special ingredient in the stew that Aylina served to Hralib the Night of Obala's pride--cut up chunks of his missing son's dead body. (Akiva told Lucas--Aylina and Akiva are friends.)
Akiva and Lucas know that Aylina killed Hralib's son and turned him into stew meat.
Rodiste believes that Aylina is in love with him, and frequently likes to "do him" at the catacombs.
Rodiste knows that he always sleeps really well after he and Aylina do it in the catacombs, and he worries that one day, he's going to get caught sleeping on the job, or one of the Firans is going to steal a corpse.
As far as Hashi's slaves go, Fissia prefers Aylina above all the rest. The girl has an actual skill--she can cook. More than that, she's frugal. The girl manages to get the cheapest cuts of meat anywhere to be had in Anarinuell! (She even gives Fissia bones to work into her jewelry from them? - Feydra)
Hashi, Yvette, Gilin and Fissia know that Aylina has ash on the bottoms of her slippers.
Orsatos knows that Aylina was near the Great Library on the Night of Obala's Pride, and said something about seeing Hralib pay. (He saw her with Hralib's armor coming out of the Great Library, so she "killed" him by knocking him on the head with her pot--so how is he alive? Is this Tatomir's doing?)
Yvette, Gilin, Fissia or Hashi (whoever has the fewest clues) knows that Aylina returned to Hashi's tents carrying a large bundle, which she buried.
Alibi/Scapegoat:
Anorna knows that Aylina has been buying potions from her, but nothing poisonous--only sleeping potions.
Aylina knows that the bundle she buried wasn't Hralib--it was his armor.
Aylina knows that when she found Hralib, he was in the Great Library, and dead--not in the Temple District at all.
Ayline knows that she cut off Hralib's finger to make a snack of it, but he was already dead at the time.
Rodiste and Other knows that Aylina's a frail Firan noblewoman--she couldn't take down a Shamibelian unless he was still a boy. There's no way she could have killed Hralib on her own.
Yvette, Gilin and Hashi know that Aylina couldn't have murdered Hralib--she was too calm. The night of Obala's Pride, she even woke up and had herself a snack that she called finger-licking-good.
Ladonna: Sing for your Supper
Statement:
My name is Ladonna Samiroon, slave of Lainath, and I strive to be worthy. It's ridiculous to suggest that I had anything to do with Governor Hralib's death. He was one of my best customers! As you know, I'm a dancer and a singer, and an entertainer. I go everywhere, and I see everything. So I've heard a thing or two. It seems to me that the person who killed Throgana must also be the same person who murdered Hralib, and there's only one person here who hated Throgana--that's Katriana. She blamed Throgana for her children's death and wanted revenge.
Goals:
- Ladonna should perform a satirical poem or song about each of the Shamibelian masters.
- Ladonna should convince the other rebels that Orsatos is working against them and they should kill him.
Motive to Kill Hralib/Throgana:
Gilin knows that she gave Ladonna a ring she stole from Tatomir, because it made her violent and unstable. What if Ladonna actually put it on? It could have made her kill Hralib.
Katriana and Lainath knows that Ladonna wrote a wickedly satirical song about Hralib that flayed him up one side and down the other.
Aldrin and Pevifa knows that Ladonna has such a gift for writing mean little songs about people that Shamibelian war lords were paying her to write them about their rivals. That's the kind of thing that can sew dissension in the ranks of the Shamibelian army really fast, and Hralib said that he wanted to put a stop to it.
Zaridos, Lucas, Torianos, Jalil, Savaren and Akiva know that Ladonna is the Mata Hari of the resistance movement, and carries messages between the Firans in coded songs. If she's willing to take those risks, wouldn't she take the risk of assassinating the Shamibelian Governor?
Zaridos, Lucas, Torianos, Jalil, and Savaren know that the rebellion intended to kill Hralib to sew confusion just before the Firans launched a counter-invasion against Anarinuell. Perhaps Ladonna had the opportunity and just jumped the gun?
Orsatos, Malentez and Tatomir believes that Ladonna is a permit forger. She frequently delivers permits to slaves when she visits their masters to sing songs and entertain.
When Ladonna came to ask Orsatos about Tatomir's Ring, he stole a few of her permits. He suspected they might be forged, and wanted to show them to Hralib. However, when he woke up after being seduced by Ladonna later in the night, the permits were gone.
Means and Opportunity to Kill Hralib/Throgana:
Czar knows that Ladonna came to him asking about exotic bonduin poisons. She said that other slaves were always taking liberties with her, and she just wanted something to defend herself so that she could preserve her master's property.
Czar knows that he gave Ladonna an exotic bonduin poison that, when poured on a kerchief and held over a man's mouth, could kill him.
Teonia, who believes Ladonna is having an affair with Savaren, saw Ladonna wearing Tatomir's missing Ring of Hate, which ended up in Hralib's money pouch. Just how did that happen?
Everyone knows that because Ladonna makes money for Lainath by singing her little songs and performing her poems, she has permits that allow her access to almost anywhere. She could have gotten away, the Night of Obala's Pride, and killed Hralib.
The last thing Orsatos remembers on the Night of Obala's Pride, before he blacked out, was that Ladonna seduced him. Could she have done something to make him pass out so that she could get past him, into the Great Library, to kill Hralib?
Alibi/Scapegoat:
Czar knows that the poison he gave Ladonna was not strong enough to kill a man--he figured that if she was telling the truth, she would only need enough to knock out her assailant, not kill him, and that if she wasn't telling the truth, someone would live to tell the tale.
Orsatos knows that Ladonna came to him with Tatomir's Ring of Hate, asking him what it was and how it could be used.
Akiva knows that she is the permit forger, and that Ladonna often delivers permits for her.
Savaren knows that Ladonna was only after Orsatos to steal back her cipher--she wasn't after Hralib that night.
*Gilin: Rogue in Rouge
Statement:
It's true I used to be a somebody in the Old City. All I had to do is say my name, Gilin Istems, and people would worry. But I ain't killed anybody in a long time, and I miss it even. Not bad enough to kill that horny goat of a Governor though. I never said a thing against him. But Ladonna there, she made up a mean song that flayed him up one side and down the other. Maybe he heard the song, right? And then he gets real mad, ok? And so he goes to find Ladonna, see, and he tries to strangle her. But in self-defense, she accidentally ties him up in a rug and leaves him outside to freeze to death. Accidents happen!
Goals:
- Gilin should steal things from others, and sell them so that she can earn enough money to buy her freedom.
- Gilin should keep her master, Hashi, happy so that he doesn't keep upping the pricetag for her freedom.
- Gilin should find ways other than whoring to please her master, and make him the money she's supposed to.
- Gilin should nickname almost everyone she meets "my precious"
Motives to Kill Hralib/Throgana:
Fissia, Hashi, and Caree know that Gilin has a special talent for stealing just about anything--maybe even firebombs.
Ladonna and Orsatos knows that Gilin stole Tatomir's Ring of Hate. Whenever she wore it, it made her enraged and murderous. Murderous enough to kill Hralib, for sure.
Means and Opportunity to Kill Hralib/Throgana:
Fissia, Hashi, and Yvette know that Gilin has a monkey-like ability to get in and out of tight spaces, sneak up on people, etcetera. She could have easily snuck upon Hralib and killed him before he even knew she was there.
Alibi/Scapegoat:
Ladonna knows that Gilin gave Tatomir's Ring of Hate to her.
Inaya: Carrying a Torch
There's nothing the Shamibelians enjoy more than humiliating Firan women of great dignity like Inaya. Even though she's much older than the typical brothel slave, Shamibelian men get their jollies from making her miserable, because she used to be the High Priestess of the False Religion, as they call it. Fortunately, Fidelia was the more recent High Priestess, and therefore, it was Fidelia who was sacrificed instead of Inaya. And just in time too, because Inaya has seen the light--or the dark, as the case may be. She has converted to the faith of Obala, and is now one of its most passionate adherents. She wields great power in the slave temple.
Statement:
Praise Obala, I am Inaya Vasaloo and I strive to be worthy. As should the rest of you, if you want to make it out of this alive. And yet, there's someone here who never minds letting his pride cost other people their lives. Everyone remembers how Prince Savaren refused to kneel until Hralib killed Rislan and made a cup of his skull. Now it's the same thing all over again. Everyone knows that Hralib kept Savaren's wife, Princess Teonia as a slave, and violated her publicly. Savaren swore revenge. He finally got it, and he doesn't care who has to die as long as his pride is in tact.
Goals:
- Inaya should proclaim that she is still the rightful High Priestess of the Firan Realms, and make everyone Drikists.
- Inaya should seduce some clients--she needs to earn enough money to eventually buy her freedom, and since she used to be a High Priestess and an Ista Aldrik, many disgusting Shamibelians want to bed her for the fun of it.
- Inaya should convert some slaves to the faith of Obala, since the Firan Gods have abandoned them.
- Inaya should try to burn down the Firan Temples to those ungrateful Firan gods of the pantheon.
Motive to Kill Hralib/Throgana:
Savaren knows that Inaya was very upset with the way Hralib mistreated her son Torianos and her daughter-in-law, Melani. She's a very protective mother--she would kill to protect her son.
Empyrean knows that Inaya frequently visited the Temple District to worship, trespassing on the land Hralib was clearing for Pevifa, and that he warned her he'd demand Scithvor kill her the next time he caught her there. Maybe she killed him to shut him up!
Forlanis and Scithvor knows that Inaya was angry with Hralib for choosing the Temple District to clear for his wife--not because she cares about the Firan Gods, but because she believed that all the temples to the ungrateful Firan pantheon should be burned down.
Means and Opportunity to kill Hralib/Throgana:
Tatomir, Lucas, and Renik know that Inaya has been furious since the Fall of Anarinuell, and believes that the Firan Gods abandoned the people. As such, she is one of the main converts of Obala, and leads the Slave Temple. As such, she's given unprecedented freedom, as a slave, and could easily have access to Hralib if she wanted it.
Katriana knows that on the Night of Obala's Pride, Inaya talked about a great sacrifice she was going to make to Obala.
Forlanis and Empyrean suspect that on the Night of Obala's Pride, Inaya went to the Temple District to burn the temples down so that no Firan could ever worship in them again. If Hralib came upon her, a struggle would most certainly have occurred.
Torianos knows that Inaya has been acquiring Shamibelian Fire Bombs.
Torianos knows that Inaya was secreting Shamibelian Fire Bombs on the property that Hralib was clearing for his wives.
Brizo knows that Inaya happened by Pevifa's Plantation--the Old Temple District--in the wee hours of the morning, looking very suspicious. He was bleeding to death though, so he asked her for help, and she helped him to safety and bandaged him up.
Scithvor knows that Inaya's tunica was covered with blood the morning after the Night of Obala's Pride.
Alibi/Scapegoat:
Brizo knows that the real reason Inaya's tunica was covered in blood is because he bled all over her when she was bandaging him.
Everyone knows that Inaya has become one of the most fervent adherents of Obala--why would she murder a Shamibelian master, considering that the Shamibelians are Obala's "Chosen People"?
Torianos knows that Inaya is a 41 year old priestess who has never killed anybody in her life--how would she have killed a war lord like Hralib?
Yvette: A Girl With Talent
Statement:
A great Shamibelian has died and now his slaves, my kindred, may be executed by the end of the night. Of course I have been crying all day! After all, my name is Yvette Vettle and I strive to be worthy. I am just a small woman--I could never have killed Governor Hralib, even if his armor was missing. But everyone knows that Lainath Samiroon wants to marry Hralib's step-daughter Tabitha. He challenged Governor Hralib to physical combat over and over again, and kept losing. Maybe he finally decided to catch the Governor without his armor, and killed him in the process.
Goals:
Motive to Kill Hralib/Throgana:
Lainath, Fissia, Aylina Gilin and Hashi know that whenever Hralib purchased a night with Yvette, he would make her perform her "special trick" and she would always return in tears, bitter and murderous. She hated Hralib and wished him dead.
Rodiste, Osirus and Brizo know that Yvette was trying to smuggle her two children out of Anarinuell, but they were killed in the attempt and she became murderously unhinged.
Aylina, Gilin, Hashi, and Fissia knows that Yvette has been crying and upset all day. Is it guilt?
Means to kill Hralib/Throgana:
Lainath knows that Hralib used to frequent the brothel whores, especially the ones who used to be noblewomen, and treat them roughly, to humiliate them. Yvette was one of his favorites.
Osirus and Tabitha know that the earrings found in Hralib's pocket belonged to Yvette.
Gilin knows that on the Night of Obala's Pride, Yvette was seen shaking and crying and overheard to say, "I killed a man."
Osirus and Brizo know that Yvette snuck off from the Night of Obala's Pride to go to the Temple District where Hralib's body was later found.
Caree and Tazira know that Yvette took a late night bath to wash the blood off of her hands.
Alibi/Scapegoat:
Brizo knows that Yvette stabbed him--not Hralib. Fortunately, she stabbed him in the fat belly, and it didn't kill him.
Brizo, Osirus and Rodiste know that the reason Yvette is so hysterical is that her children are dead.
Savanna: A Girl And Her Hammer
Savanna's mother is a famous Firan armorer. As soon as the Shamibelians found this out, they put Savanna to work, and she is now one of the most wealthy and productive slaves in Anarinuell.
Statement:
My name is Savanna Samiroon and I strive to be worthy. My only guess as to why Governor Hralib's armor might be missing, is because everything I craft is of the finest quality, and the armor protected him well. Without it, Governor Hralib would be easier to kill. But what does a silly slave girl know? After all, your slave girl Yvette has been crying and upset all day, as if she actually mourned Governor Hralib--or perhaps it's a guilty conscience!
Relationships:
- Savanna does not like Yvette, and suspects that she is a Shamibelian sympathizer.
Goals:
- Savanna should earn enough money to buy her freedom.
- Savanna should find out who raped her during a recent raid and make them pay. Having to sleep with Malentez is bad enough.
- Savanna should get a warrior to teach her how to fight with a hammer.
- Savanna should touch a Hydran and make them miserable.
Motive to kill Hralib/Throgana:
Czar and Lainath knows that Hralib had approached Malentez about buying Savanna because she was a high wage earner as a slave and armoror, and she could be handy for the the planned offensive to crush the rest of the Firan Republic.
Caree knows that Hralib overheard Savanna say that she'd rather kill Malentez in his sleep than bear a haffie baby. She might have killed him to keep him from repeating the tale to her master. (Caree and Hralib talked about it in slave negotiations.)
Zaridos and Czar know that Savanna's been stepping out on Malentez with Osirus--if Hralib found out, she might have killed him to shut him up.
Czar and Malentez know that Savanna was recently raped during a raid, and that though she didn't get a good look at the raiders, she always was sure it was Hralib that did it.
Empyrean knows that if Hralib had bought Savanna away from Malentez, and made her an armorer for the army, it would have been nearly impossible for her to buy her freedom. Plus, she would be a traitor against the remaining Free Firan Republic.
Zaridos once told Savanna that she'd be better off killing herself than allowing Hralib to buy her and turn her into an armorer for the whole Shamibelian army, because when the Firans were free, he would see that she was convicted of treason. Maybe she felt killing Hralib was her only way out.
Lucas knows that Hralib was considering buying Savanna and making her an armorer for the entire Shamibelian army. He personally encouraged her in this, because he was sure she could work inferiorities into the metal and compromise their armor. It's possible that Hralib learned about their plan and had to die.
Akiva believes that Savanna and Lucas are having an affair--they've been meeting secretly. If Hralib came upon them, and learned that the slave he wanted to buy was an adulterous whore, she might have killed him to shut him up.
Inaya and Anorna knows that Malentez was reluctant to sell Savanna to Hralib because he was hoping she was pregnant with his daughter, and wanted to keep a daughter with him as a slave.
Means and Opportunity to kill Hralib/Throgana:
Caree and Lainath know that Savanna may seem like a demure slave, but she wields a hammer with brutal efficiency--in fact, she killed a man during the invasion that way. She could have given Hralib a bump to the head that he'd never wake up from.
Everyone knows that Savanna works with a forge, day in and day out. If anyone were going to shove ashes into Hralib's mouth, it'd have been her.
Anorna and Inaya knows that Savanna had been seeking out a large number of infertility potions.
Malentez knows that Savanna was seen exchanging vials with Hralib whenever he visited.
Hashi knows that Savanna sold Hralib a unique and amazing set of armor, and that he wasn't wearing it when he was found and it's missing from his things.
Alibi/Scapegoat:
Anorna knows that Hralib was getting infertility potions and abortifacients for Savanna so that Malentez would be more willing to sell her to him.
Sarina: Spurned Slave
Statement: I'm Sarina, slave of Ruffialo, and Worthy Gladiatrix. It's true that I was just sold by Hralib and that I wasn't happy about it. Governor Hralib was a great man, and I was proud to be his slave. But if anyone killed him, it would have been another great man, and another thing to give me pride. We Firans are a subjugated people, but we have our leaders amongst us, and our Princes have promised to deliver us from bondage. Perhaps the Shamibelians should beware, that Princes like Zaridos can kill them when they least suspect it.
Goals:
- Sarina should prove who killed Hralib or all of his slaves, including Melani, will be killed.
- Sarina should get the Taria-Skull cup away from the Shamibelians and give it proper funeral rites.
Motive to kill Hralib/Throgana:
Jalil, Emma, Melani, Torianos, Rodiste, and Orsatos know that Sarina was, up until just yesterday, Hralib's slave and that their relationship was troubled.
Jalil, Emma, Melani, Torianos, Rodiste and Orsatos know that Sarina did not want Hralib to sell her, that she had fallen slightly under his sway, and that she exhibited signs of heartbreak at being sold away like chattle. She may have felt betrayed enough to kill him.
Orsatos and Tabitha knows that Throgana convinced Hralib that Sarina was trying to kill him--and that he should sell her to Ruffialo as a gladiatrix--gladiator slaves have short lifespans.
Jalil, Emma, Melani, Torianos, Rodiste and Orsatos know that Sarina and Throgana hated one another, and often got into fist fights. It's one of the reasons Sarina was sold--maybe she decided to get even with Throgana for getting rid of her.
Everyone knows that Hralib sold Sarina to Ruffialo before the Night of Obala's pride as a gladiatrix slave--she wouldn't be the first slave who, once freed of her master and suspicion, then tried to kill him.
Melani and Torianos know that the real reason Hralib sold Sarina was because she had been helping them meet together, against Hralib's orders and that he said he would not tolerate in his slaves, someone who betrayed him in this way. Perhaps, knowing that Melani got her into such trouble, she would not feel bad about endangering Melani's life this way.
Dyanna, Teonia and Forlanis knows that Sarina and Throgana never got along because Throgana thought that Sarina might usurp her place as Hralib's favorite slave, and the jealousy was mutual.
Means and Opportunity to kill Hralib/Throgana:
Everyone knows that Sarina was a capable warrior and could kill a man without much trouble.
Everyone knows that Sarina is not only one of the fire people, but a priestess of Srenna. If she were going to take her revenge upon anyone, she'd burn them. She has a fascination with fire, and wasn't Hralib burned on his face and hands?
Aylina saw Sarina near the Great Library where Hralib was staying at night, (when?)
Melani and Dyanna (how?) knows that Sarina stole Hralib's keyring.
Malentez knows that Hralib's keys were all missing when his body was found dead in the Great Library.
Aylina, Fara and Aldrin know that Hralib had his keys with him when they came upon him in the Great Library.
Gilin and Melani knows that Hralib's keys were not with the belongings that Fara and Throgana hid.
Czar notices that Sarina has Hralib's keyring.
Savaren told Teonia that he knows that Sarina was sneaking around the Night of Obala's pride, late into the evening, and snuck onto Fissia's property to get Gilin--both of them left.
Jalil, Emma, Melani, Torianos, Rodiste and Orsatos know that Sarina had taken a form of Endab that she learned from the Bonduins and turned it into a new martial arts form with the use of torches. Wasn't Hralib burned on his face and hands?
Sarina told Czar that she was 'tired' shortly after Hralib left the Night of Obala's pride, and that she was going to bed, but it's seriously doubtful that she went back to Ruffialo's tents that night. She probably snuck off to follow him, and kill him.
Alibi/Scapegoat:
Sarina knows that when she came upon Hralib, in the Great Library, at (when?) he was alone, laying face first in a slow burning pile of scrolls. He was already dead, and she took his keyring so that she could save Melani.
Melani knows that Sarina was following -her- the night of Obala's pride, not Hralib, and it's a good thing too, because Sarina saved her from freezing to death. (Note: If Sarina's following Melani that night she should likely have some clues in regards to Dyanna as no doubt Melani would have told her who locked her in the room - Feydra)
While it's probably true that Sarina knew she had a better chance of killing Hralib without suspicion immediately falling upon her now that she's no longer his slave, Someone knows that Sarina is unlikely to sacrifice Melani and Hralib's other Firan slaves just to get revenge.
Akiva: Nobody Loves A Scribe
Statement:
My name is Akiva Ista--my name is Akiva Samiroon. I was in the stocks all night, so I know nothing about the death of either Governor Hralib or his slave, Throgana. But I was once a student of Firan law, and I can tell you that when someone was murdered, our guards tried to find out who had the most to gain by the victim's death. For example, someone like Governor Hralib's son, Hashi, stands to inherit everything he owns now that he's dead. Just for example.
Goals:
- Akiva should find a way to retrieve Fidelia's body from the Palace Gardens where the Shamibelians let slave bodies rot, and burn it properly. She can't bear to see them make a Skull-of-Fiddy Cup.
- Akiva should 'make up' to Lainath for what a bad slave she has been, or he'll sell Lucas
- Akiva should prevent Lainath from selling or killing Lucas, for the sake of the children
Motives to kill Hralib/Throgana:
Everyone knows that Akiva pled on her knees with Hralib not to let Tatomir sacrifice her aunt Fidelia at the Night of Obala's Pride, but Hralib told her that Fidelia was old and useless to him as a slave. Akiva was also whipped for her insolence, but it was clear from her eyes that she would never forgive him.
Hashi, Osirus, Aldrin, Aylina, Lucas, Ladonna, and Savanna know that Akiva has been running a very lucrative underground permit forgery operation. If Hralib was about to uncover it, Akiva would have had to kill him to save her own life.
Yvette knows that Akiva is Aylina's friend, and seems to be protecting her. Is she hiding something that got Hralib and Throgana killed?
Means to kill Hralib/Throgana:
Hashi and Tatomir and Inaya knows that Akiva is fully literate in Shamibelian and can mimic people's signatures. He would not be surprised if she forged a few permits in her day. Likely, she could get anywhere in the city without being stopped.
Lucas and Lainath and Osirus know that Akiva was actually released from the stocks (when?) on the Night of Obala's Pride--she had ample opportunity to kill Hralib and be back in shackles without anyone suspecting.
Malentez knows Lainath caught Lucas freeing Akiva from the stocks and tending to her wounds, but he hasn't told anyone because he doesn't want to be further humiliated in front of the other Shamibelians for not being able to adequately control his slave--might he be protecting her from murder charges as well, for fear of how they'll reflect upon him?
Dyanna knows that although Akiva and Aylina are friends, they have been fighting lately. (Akiva wants Aylina to stop using dead body parts and feeding them to the Shamibelians because she fears it's a curse to the gods.)
Aldrin and Torianos know that Akiva has been asking them religious questions about whether or not Unot would be angry if, say, someone were to chop off a small limb, or finger, of a Shamibelian and eat it.
Alibi/Scapegoat:
Everyone knows that Akiva was stocked the night of the murders, so how could she have killed Hralib or Throgana?
Anorna: Home At Last
Statement:
If I may be so bold as to give my statement too--I am Anorna Vettle, slave of Ruffialo, and I strive to be worthy. Since returning to my master, I have done nothing but try to prove myself to him. I would never do harm to anyone without his permission as you all know. There are many unworthy slaves, however, who should be interrogated closely, and Feathyr is one of them. Oh, she pretends to be a good messenger girl, and so they trust her to travel anywhere, but deep down, she hates you all. You should not have entrusted her with free travel permits. She could have gone off the Night of Obala's pride to murder Governor Hralib and no one would have questioned it!
Goals:
- Anorna should convince Priest Tatomir to make Ruffialo Governor of Anarinuell
- Anorna should help find Ruffialo a wife so that he can have some property--she's tired of sleeping in a tent.
- Anorna should make sure that Sarina knows that she doesn't trust her, and that she had better not try to usurp her as Ruffialo's favorite slave or she'll pay.
Motives to Kill Hralib/Throgana:
Forlanis, Dyanna, and Czar knows that Anorna thought it was an insult that Hralib was made Governor of Anarinuell instead of her master, Ruffialo. Obala knows she has had plenty to prove to him now that she's back, and much to make up for in terms of her having 'escaped', so mightn't she have killed Hralib to impress her master?
Sarina knows that Anorna was angry with Hralib for selling Sarina to Ruffialo, because she's so insecure about her place. Maybe Anorna killed Hralib for endangering her precious status.
Ruffialo knows that Anorna always resented Hralib for making the suggestion that he breed her with Rodiste, to get nice docile Hydran slave babies when she really wanted to bear children for her master, but would she have killed Hralib over it?
Means and Opportunity to Kill Hralib/Throgana:
Melani knows that she went to Anorna to get the fertility potions that Hralib asked for. What if the woman put something in those potions?
Perdita, Teonia and Empyrean knows that Anorna is wearing one of Throgana's earrings. Wasn't Throgana missing an earring when they found her dead body?
Zaridos notices that Anorna is wearing one of Throgana's earrings--the one that snagged the Ranivor's medallion when he was trying to yank it off her neck.
Alibi/Scapegoat:
Rodiste knows that he gave Anorna the earring he accidentally tore off of Throgana's body. It made him feel smug to give her a gift like th
