SKILL: MIDWIFERY
This is a newly developing skill for the Firans and people with this skill are few. Midwifery will allow a person to actively assist a mother and/or baby during labor and birth which could reduce infant mortality and deaths of mothers. It can also include basic pre-natal care in the form of suggestions on diet and personal care.
The midwifery skill is one that is associated with women. A man could have the skill but if he uses it, social hits are likely. Labor and birth is not a situation where many women would wish to have a male present that is not their spouse.
Game Terms: Having a midwife present during pregnancy and at birth can affect the rolls mother and baby make for outcome and health of labor.
Midwifery skill level 1: Can affect the roll for the baby only.
Midwifery skill level 2: Can affect the roll for the baby OR the mother
Midwifery skill level 3+: Can affect the roll of both the baby and the
mother.
The midwife would first have a roll at the difficulty that has been determined for either baby/mother or both. The roll would be Intuition + Midwifery. Depending on the outcome of this roll, the baby/mother's roll would be adjusted in the following manner:
5+ successes -2 to the difficulty of baby/mother 2-4 successes -1 to the difficulty of baby/mother 0-1 successes No change 1-2 botches +1 added to difficulty of baby/mother 3+ botches +2 added to difficulty of baby/mother
