Overview

Moira, for many years the only healer of the Old City, was a well-known personality amongst Old City denizens as well as within the walls. Though she was known to be Pangaros' lover, she was careful to steer clear of any criminal activities he may or may not have been involved in. The lithe and copper-haired woman was a fierce advocate for the rights and freedoms of the people of the Old City, and avoided the city inside the Walls whenever possible.

She was responsible for much of the renovation that the Old City underwent for several years. Homes and shops were repaired and built, mostly using whatever recycled construction materials that could be found, and in this way many of the honest but impoverished folk were given a new lease on life. Moira personally handled all construction projects and building within the Old City, as well as negotiations with Clan Leaders (and, some say, the Queen) on matters pertinant to the Old City and its residents, often championing her cause to obtain funds for the rebuilding. Tragically, all this hard work went up in flames during the Shamibelian air raid of 24 A.U. when much of the Old City was destroyed.

The widespread destruction of her home, coupled with Pangaros' death the following year, lead Moira to withdraw to her private home at the South Docks. She was semi-reclusive for years, keeping in touch with her friends but refusing to venture out or aid in the rebuilding of the ruined Old City. She adopted a son and eventually adopted another child while returning to her medical duties. She was also the owner of the White Dove business, having inherited it from Pangaros. At one point the Gold Dragon Clan siezed the buildings of the Sailors' Nook as part of their temporary claim of the Old City as their own, but eventually Moira was able to reclaim both the Barnacle Inn and the White Dove Rising, a move sanctioned by the Viceroy Taleo himself.

Eventually Moira sold the White Dove Rising building to Sangreos, but retained an informal ownership of the business itself in order to use its profits to continue the restoration of the Old City. The day-to-day operations of the whorehouse were left to Sangreos and the Dove's madames while Moira focused on her healing and toxicology skills. Indeed, she was one of the group of healers who discovered the properties of gelsamine.

Thus Moira continued to minister to the physical and monetary needs of her people of the Old City while raising her children at the South Docks. Things changed when in the dark of the night in early March 33 A.U., the Viceroy Taleo led a raid on the Old City and coincidentally, the South Docks where Moira was. She was hauled off to jail and from there the Griffon healer was sent to the front lines in Scirlut to participate in the war against the Blood Dragons. Partway through this Moira was shot in the chest and arm by "friendly fire" and seriously injured, but she was able to recover with the help of her fellow healers. Then just after the truce was negotiated and the Griffon troops were sent home, Moira vanished from both Scirlut and Anarinuell. Given that she had been warned that her life was in danger and indeed, was threatened with death while in jail, and given that signs of a violent scuffle were found at the former Griffon camp outside Scirlut along with a bloodied piece of clothing plus her keyring, friends fear that grievous harm has come of her. Others argue that with the threat of death hanging over her head, Moira has finally done what she had wanted to do after the heartbreaking loss of her beloved Pangaros years ago - returned to the wilderness from whence she originally came.

Family Life

Moira rarely spoke of her life before she appeared in Anarinuell. Those who knew her well knew that she was a child in Ellish when the Shamibelians invaded then captured that city and that her parents died in the intervening years, but if Moira had any siblings, she kept that information to herself.

Marriage

In spite of their close bond, Moira and Pangaros never married for reasons of their own. However, when Moira sought to adopt a child after Pangaros' death, she was required by law to be married first. Her choice was Sangreos Tabernik, a friend and former lieutenant of Pangaros. It was solely a marriage of convenience and after the adoption, they divorced.

Several years later when Moira sought to adopt a second child, Sangreos agreed to a remarriage. This time the two never got around to divorcing and remain legally bound to this day.

Children

Moira adopted two children several years after Pangaros' death. However, to protect their identities from enemies, she rarely ventured out in public with them. The children were taken from Moira when she was arrested, and very few know of their whereabouts now.

Accomplishments

Moira was one of a group of healers who discovered the source of water sickness: gelsamine, a plant which had slowly been poisoning Anarinuell's water supply.

She was also responsible for procuring funds and turning a section of the Old City into a plaza of respectable shops and homes. In addition, she saw to it that a temple was built in the Old City area.

Scandals

Moira was not afraid to dress down anyone she felt deserved it, no matter their rank. She refuted Ranivor Elianos, told off Prince Vahlgellan, and even balked her own clan leader. Surprisingly, she was never once punished or jailed for any of this. Perhaps her most famous act of defiance was one of her last when, after a spat with Viceroy Taleo over the White Dove's latest Madame, she freed all the Doves from their contracts and they scattered to the winds, bringing about the downfall of Anarinuell's most famous whorehouse.

Habits

Moira rejected the idea of "useless" hairpins and allowed her unruly copper-colored hair to fall free, often thrusting an impatient hand through the thick locks to push them away from her face.

Dislikes

The Old City healer was never shy about the fact that she held a very strong dislike for nobles and their love of frippery, or indeed anyone who flounted such. She saw their jewelry and fancy clothes as a wasteful use of stenis, stenis which could be put to better use providing jobs, food and housing for those less well off than they. Moira also did not suffer fools gladly, and underneath her normal no-nonsense and aloof manner lay an explosive temper that she was not afraid to unleash upon anyone, be they outcast, commoner or royal.
