Official Statement

"The Messenger Boy" doesn't have to give an official statement. He's just a state-owned nobody, right?

Relationships

  • Savanna -- When Nessik was still alive, Savanna was his wife.
  • Yvette -- A snooty Didoron cousin that always looked down on him, and married him off at the soonest opportunity to get him out of the family.
  • Tatomir -- The Priest of Obala who brought Nessik "back to life"
  • Lainath -- This is the Shamibelian who actually killed Nessik on the battlefield, and let him rot

Background

Nessik grew up as a Didoron Lord, but a scorned one. His father was a twin, who they had kept hidden as a commoner, and so when his roots were revealed, everyone still looked down on him as if he were of common blood. Nessik was brought to live with the Didorons when he was of age, but he was always treated as a second class citizen. Especially by Yvette. He has pure noble blood, but they treated him like dirt, and married him off to the Eagle Clan as soon as possible.

Nessik was killed fighting the Shamibelians as they overran Anarinuell. The warrior who killed him was named Lainath. The bastard ripped his wedding necklace off his body, and then let his corpse lay out to rot. So Nessik is a Lost Soul, who has been wandering around the countryside, looking for the City of Lost Souls. Until yesterday.

Something called him back to his rotting body. It was like waking up. And when he opened his eyes, he was laying on a slab underneath Tatomir, the High Priest of Obala. Nessik realized that he could talk, and be heard. He could see, and be seen. But he wasn't actually in his body anymore, and he couldn't touch other people or be touched by them. He also can't touch, move, or hold objects.

Tatomir said that something had "gone wrong" but Nessik wasn't going to stick around. So he ran.

Goals

  1. Avoid Tatomir--he's probably trying to Re-Kill you.
  2. Make Osirus miserable for sleeping with your wife--try to "prove" he killed Hralib
  3. Find out who really raped Savanna during a raid and make them pay
  4. Get other people to pick up the things you need, and carry them, since you can't touch anything on your own.

The Messenger Boy Round One

Reveal

Nessik happens to know that Osirus is having an illicit affair with a slave, without the permission of her master. Or her husband for that matter. If a man has so little respect for the rules of civilized society, is there any question that he'd turn to murder?

Nessik happens to know that the Oshta would be proud of Sarina, and wants her to protect Melani and Empyrean.

Nessik bets Taleo really regrets giving Zaridos such a position of importance in the Firan Army--he let the goats roll right over Anarinuell, and now the Firans are doomed.

Isn't Czar one of Malentez's slaves? Isn't he supposed to be guarding Malentez's land? If so, then how is it that Savanna Iberik ended up getting raped during a raid recently?

Conceal

Nessik can't pick up objects or weapons, so he can't actually hurt anybody. He'd really rather nobody knew that. He's supposed to be a scary lost soul, so he has to act all threatening and menacing and spooky, like he could kill them.

That Nessik can't touch any objects, hold them, or move them has been really frustrating for him. But there seems to be one exception to the rule.

This morning, at 8am, Nessik was hanging about the Palace. The Shamibelians have turned it into a catacombs for their dead, and dumped all the Firan dead bodies into the Palace Garden in a rot pile. Nessik has been hoping to find and identify his own dead body so that he can direct others for it to be burned properly and set him free.

He saw Rodiste stash something in the catacombs, and when he went to see what it was, he realized it was the Ranivor's medallion. Even more importantly, Nessik was able to touch it. The medallion is also a Lost Soul, of sorts. And it called to him.

Nessik put it on under his robes, and is keeping it hidden. Nessik will give it to the Prince he, and the medallion, deem to be most worthy.

Nessik has talked to a lot of other lost souls recently, including Taria, Taleo, Fidelia, and yes, even Hralib.

Nessik knows that since he's been dead, Osirus has been carrying on with his wife, Savanna. Imagine the nerve of that Hydran! The hypocrisy. What would Zutiv think of that? Doesn't Zutiv hate cheating?

Round One Props

  • The Ranivor's Medallion

The Messenger Boy Round Two

Round Two Reveal

Everyone knows that Fissia showed up to the Night of Obala's Pride wearing a costume that matched her husband Hashi's dog, Spike. She was carrying the dog around the party. At first it just seemed gauche, but it bothered Hralib. He muttered angrily, ""And Obala said, let the men be keepers of the living, and the women be keepers of things . . ." He said that he was going to make Hashi take the dog away from her. She's so devoted to that animal, she'd have killed Hralib to stop that from happening.

Just as Throgana and Governor Hralib were leaving the Night of Obala's Pride, Fissia let Spike loose, and told him KILL!

The Messenger Boy noticed Vitara Pevifa sneaking off from the Night of Obala's Pride. Where might she have been going?

Sure, Vitara Pevifa frequently went to inspect her lands, to make sure they were being cleared properly and to memorize their boundaries, and she didn't usually go in the dark, or with a shovel, but there's certainly nothing incriminating about her being on her own plantation.

Although Hashi insists on using Aylina as a brothel slave, she's actually becoming one of the most talented cooks in the city, and could make Hashi and his wife Fissia a fortune if they used her talents in the kitchen.

Aylina's a frail Firan noblewoman--she couldn't take down a Shamibelian unless he was still a boy. There's no way she could have killed Hralib on her own. Though, her dearly departed husband, Udettos, would sorely like to see her try.

The Ista Aldriks were always a dangerous family to cross in the old Anarinuell. Why not the new one too? On the Night of Obala's Pride, the Shamibelians sacrificed Fidelia and drained her blood into a cauldron. Her niece begged for her life, and her son promised to avenge her. They would seem like prime suspects, no?

Round Two Conceal

Lost Soul of Taleo has told Nessik that Lucas persuaded him to surrender the city, and that he's since realized this was probably a mistake. Why was Lucas so keen to surrender?

Nessik knows that Taleo was no longer a lost soul as of about 3:15AM this morning. How did that happen? Wasn't his skull being used as Hralib's cup?

Lost Soul of Udettos has told Nessik that he's very proud of his wife Aylina for killing Hralib's young son, and turning him into stew meat.

Lost Soul of Fidelia loves her niece Akiva and her son Aldrin, but thinks they need to be reminded to preserve an Ista Aldrik sense of decorum at all times--even when her blood is being drained into a cauldron.

Nessik should really divorce Savanna, because she's unfaithful, but he still loves her.

Round Two Props

Round Two Additional Goals

  1. Find out the dirt on all the Princes, so you can decide which one is most worthy.
  2. Make it seem like Lainath is the one who killed Hralib, and otherwise haunt him.
  3. Make Malentez miserable--he's Savanna's "master".
  4. Berate Savanna for cheating on you with a Hydran like Osirus--after all, the wedding necklaces were never burned. You're still married!
  5. Get back your wedding necklace. Lainath ripped it off your neck when he killed you.
  6. Find Yvette and taunt her. She used to think you were dirt, but now she is a brothel slave!

The Messenger Boy Round Three

Reveal

Throgana had a nasty nailbiting habit.

The Messenger Boy knows that last night, Brizo received a messenger saying that two dead rats had been found in his wine barrel and that Hralib might no longer prefer his vintage. He's pretty sure that was code for something.

Forlanis wasn't quite as brave on the walls of Anarinuell as he'd like everyone to believe. Sure, three Firan soldiers died at the top of the wall, but unbeknownst to his colleagues, they died from a ballista bolt that passed through them. It was a Firan Friendly Fire incident that Forlanis was all too willing to take credit for.

Even though Emma is a Gold Dragon, she actually fought on the walls of Anarinuell, disguised as a boy in armor against her father's orders, and against her clan leader's orders. Emma feels like she fought so poorly that day, that it contributed to the Fall of Anarinuell, so she doesn't want anyone to know.

Conceal

Quite honestly, Hralib hasn't any idea how he died. One minute he was having sex with his favorite slave, Throgana. The next minute he felt like his blood was boiling, and he died. He's pretty sure it was poison though. Must have been in that stew that he ate with Malentez and Ruffialo.

Nessik has run into the two little lost souls of Yvette's dead children. They were being smuggled out of Anarinuell in Brizo's wine barrels, but the Shamibelians caught them and killed them. They send their love to their mom, and Nessik is going to try to get them made into teffies.

Somehow, Caree the slaver has got hold of the bodies of Yvette's dead children.

Round Three Props

Round Three Additional Goals

  1. Get Savanna to help find your body
  2. See if you can have her arrange for proper funeral rites. Being a lost soul isn't fun.

Additional Notes

Re-animated Lost Soul of Nessik, who Tatomir accidentally brought to life thinking it was a great Shamibelian. (Savanna or someone switched the body).

Will be haunting Savanna for having an affair with a Hydran, and will be haunting Yvette for treating him like a lesser Didoron when she's now a brothel slave.

He'll also be talking to her about the souls of her two dead children.

Tatomir will be trying to get him under control, and re-kill him, likely.

He was actually supposed to be fully re-animated, but Tatomir screwed it up, so he's actually half in and out of this world. He's dead, and a lost soul, but he can be seen.

Maybe, in fact, he actually has some insight into the murders.

And maybe he has the medallion, he was able to touch it because it has spiritual essence. And the medallion tells him to do things.

He'll want a funeral, b/c it sucks not to be able to things, but not touch people.

Needs a card that says 'I'm just a messenger boy, I don't need to give a statement'
