New Air Force Procedures
From FiranMUX
Emergency Landing Procedure:
In the event that your griffon has taken over 40 damage and is in danger of crashing, and you ask for and receive permission, land your bird.
Use mount defend to defend the pilot (yes it works, tested and confirmed). The pilot can defend the archer. (Griffon --> pilot --> archer)
Situation will dictate whether both grounded will use their bows or whether the pilot will use a ground weapon. Watch for orders on this.
If you use a spear, you can do so past the griffon's defense without getting off the bird (this has also been tested). You can also use a sword but a sword MUST unride first in order to attack anything.
The griffon will still defend the pilot even if unride is used. Griffons will autoattack if a Shamibelian attempts to engage you, so with luck a Sham trying to doubleteam you will end up with griffonclaws to the face.
Anyone told to remain on bow should join ground volley, taking volley orders from the infantry.
This will (hopefully) keep you alive until the air battle finishes without having to pull resources from the Infantry to guard your butt.
Post Air Battle Formation:
We have two options here.
After all enemy archers and pilots are down, you are to do the following when you RECEIVE THE ORDER:
Land your griffon on the back lines. Remain /on/ your bird. All pilots AND archers are to procede to join the infantry vollies unless ordered otherwise.
This will be decided case by case, depending what griffons we have and how damaged they are. Pre-battle we will need to take stock of who is going up with what ground weapon available for post-air engagement.
OOC thanks to Arik and the people who helped me to test these strategies.
