Legal Implications

That any lawyer can go in and ask a puppet machine for a writ against someone has some downsides. First of all, a player could just, out of revenge, seek a writ of arrest or a fine against an adversary, and if their skill is high enough, get it even though the facts alleged could be totally fabricated. We've weighed the pros and cons of this type of abuse of the system and have decided, in light of our current legal system in the modern world, that it's not all that unrealistic.

Because the Clan Chieftain characters will be appraised of all the goings on, they can probably monitor abuses if they get out of hand in an entirely IC way. They can overrule and even fire their judges and officials -- so there will be player input to check abuses, and of course, admin can nudge players who are being twinky.

Ultimately, I think this system gives characters with legal skills something to do, it aids roleplaying, and it allows legal things to happen even when there are no PC officials online to take care of things (which is a problem on most mushes and muds since you have PC's locked in jail for interminable amounts of time unable to play and getting bored).
