<---------- GOSSIP HOUR AT THE NOOK ---------->
With summer just around the corner, the weather is naturally pleasant; the sun is still shining brightly in the evening hours, warming everything it touches, while a pleasingly cool breeze offers gentle respite every so often. Spring showers that had occurred earlier in the day are but a memory, with the only remnants being the shady areas of the pier which the sun has failed to encounter, and it is in one of these shady, damp areas that the scruffy urchin has taken up post. She continues to beg and plead for some stenis, or perhaps a bit of food, of the few people left milling around the Nook; looking more pitiful in the cool damp areas than she likely would in the dry illuminated ones. Finally, the rickety hand cart pushed by the old merchant makes its entrance into the pier area, and the normal exchange of brief 'pleasantries' and food is made.
Dinner today seems to consist of a stale piece of bread and a moldy cherry tart, but both old man and young girl alike consume it as though it was the food of the gods themselves. They eat in silence, and once the food is gone and their mouths once more free to speak, the gossiping begins. So you'll never guess what I heard! the scruffy urchin begins excitedly. Seems that Pakeera an' Susia got into a bigass fight in the Forum the other day! I 'dunno what it were about -- no one be talkin' -- but I do know that it was somethin' big 'cause Susia moved outta the Insula the next day. Or Pakeera went an' kicked her out. Either way, there were a lot o' shoutin' and she be livin' in the Tabernik house with Beyzo now. Yeah, with _Beyzo_, the same haffie that's been threatenin' the Parnassis family as of late. I didn't think Susia were the haffie-lovin' type, but mebbe she is after all an' she's takin' Beyzo's side in all o' this mess. I wouldn't go mentionin' either sister to the other for a good long while, too, iff'in I were you. The urchin pauses to lick the remainder of the cherry filling left over on her fingers from the moldy cherry tart. Seems like that family be fallin' apart quicker than the Ol' City did when we had that guard raid a year or so ago.
The merchant merely shakes his head in antipathy, Feckin' shame, that is. Nevertheless, he perks up considerably as he exchanges his bit of gossip. But that was nothin'. Did'ja hear 'bout that bigass fight in the Nook earlier this week? I ain't too sure about the details, but I know that it started out in the Gambit when Vinoria saw some waller girl she used to play with when she was a kid; Udana, I think her name was. For who knows what reason, she just flipped out and started beatin' on the girl, and she were ranting and raving something about war an' bein' a disgrace to General Latin or Latta or somethin'. The urchin eyes the merchant for a minute, and the expression on her face clearly denotes that she is wholeheartedly unimpressed by his lack of memory. To which the merchant replies casually, I ain't a Griffon, what do I care who she were talkin' about? Anyway, Keeshan didn't take too kindly to havin' the Gambit used as a brawlin' arena, so after Vinoria beat this Udana up pretty damn good she dragged her out into the Nook to finish her off. Meanwhile, Hypeius shows up somewhere in all of this and then _he_ starts beatin' on some waller he used to know as a kid. Go figure. So since Keeshan were just about to have a fit or somethin' with all the beatin' goin' on in the Gambit, Hypeius took that Hufimo kid outside and beat him near dead. Then he dragged 'em to the Stone Bridge and nearly threw Hufimo off of it! He didn't, though; the kid's still runnin' around the city and mouthin' off, like he ain't learned nothin'. The Udana girl's walkin' around just fine, too. Mebbe Vinoria and Hypeius be goin' soft.
The urchin wrinkles her nose in unveiled digust. Yer jokin'! Those two is turnin' out to be nothin' but big talkers, they are! An' ya know who else is goin' soft? Niobe, that's who. Apparently she were keepin' a couple o' horses in Narin's old stables, and now they's gone. Poof! Disappeared, just like that! The urchin snaps her bony fingers for emphasis, sending a crisp sound throughout the Nook that cuts through the dull clamour of the evening. Word 'round these parts is that she's right pissed off 'bout it, too. But I ain't seen not one cracked head over it, or anyone walkin' funny. Iff'in she's so pissed off, why ain't she _doin'_ somethin' about it? An' why ain't Jariko helpin'? Seems like jus' anyone can take what they please from the Istems-Firona family and they won't do shit about it! This sure as hell wouldn't o' happened if Kachina were still alive and Jaz weren't lyin' so low, I can tell ya that!
A nod of the merchant's head signals his definite agreement to the urchin's sentiments. Ya got that right. Those two is good women, they were. Speakin' o' not doin' shit 'bout anythin', Beyzo seems to be sittin' on his ass a lot too. I hears that Karihla went missin' earlier this week; probably kidnapped by one of them gang o' thugs that mill around and cause trouble. I knows she went after some of 'em to bargain for Circe's things -- that be the new whore's name, the Gold Dragon one we was talkin' 'bout last week -- but Beyzo won't even go ask around for her! Hypeius an' a few others have been tryin' to bargain for her release, but Beyzo jus' seems perfectly fine with lettin' good, honest Ol' City folk have their things stolen and be held hostage. We need our whores and we need our mercenaries! We can't have 'em havin' their things stolen and rottin' in a thug hideout! Considerably appalled, the normally docile merchant cements his words with a loud projectile gob of spit, which flies through the air and lands ceremoniously into the river below.
The urchin bobs her head up and down in quick agreement, and seems entirely unphased by the spitting. Yeah, really. I's just about sick o' those thugs pickin' on whomever they choose. But, things may be lookin' up! There's this new guy hangin' 'round the Ol' City, calls himself Jalrios, an' he says he's some relative of the great Pangaros himself! I ain't too sure 'bout that, he doesn't really look like Pangaros at all an' it ain't like he's got any proof. Not that I heard of, anyway. He's tryin' to organize some meetin' with all the Ol' City folks too, but no one knows what it's about, jus' that he wants to keep it real quiet so no wallers or guards or anyone who ain't Ol' City hears. The urchin's gossip swapping is put on temporary hold as she, too, suddenly spits into the river below, and she shrugs her shoulders. I ain't sure what to think 'o that, either. I figure I should show up to the meeting -- once he announces when it's gonna be an' where -- and ask him a shitload of questions to see if he's for real or not. For all we know, he could be some lyin' waller spy!
The merchant snorts and nods his head. Yeah, he very well could. I'd still like to meet him, though, jus' to see what he's all about. Ya never know, he _could_ be related to Pangraros after all. An' in that's so, then he jus' might be what the Ol' City needs. You'll let me know as soon as he announces when his meeting is, right? The urchin nods, Yeah, I will. But nows I gotta get back to me beggin'! I sees ya later! With that, the two bid each other farewell, and business resumes as usual.
<---------- PRAISE AND DISS SUGGESTIONS FOR THIS WEEK ---------->
-*- Praise Suggestions -*-
~ Hypeius: Yay for beating up wallers!
~ Jalrios: A relative of Pangaros? A secret OC meeting? Huzzah!
~ Vinoria: Woo! Way to beat up wallers!
-*- Diss Suggestions -*-
~ Beyzo: So you want to be a leadership figure, but you won't actually do anything to help people out? Either be quiet or go to Ellish where you belong, haffie!
~ Hypeius: Why wasn't that waller thrown off the bridge like you said?! Way to talk big and do nothing about it.
~ Jalrios: Who do you think you are? You show up out of nowhere and the first thing you do is claim that you're a relative of Pangaros, then you try to exert control by having some sort of secret meeting? Go back to where you belong!
~ Jariko: So you're just fine with people stealing from your family? Jaz would be so disappointed!
~ Niobe: Instead of whining about how annoyed you are that your horses were stolen, go do something about it!
~ Susia: Whoa, are you condemning the Parnassis' to Beyzo's threats? Traitor! Way to stand by your family.
~ Vinoria: Why isn't that waller 'finished off' like you said you were going to? Looks like motherhood's softened you!

<---------- OOC SCHTUFF ---------->
- So, the newsletter's a day late, and I apologize for that! I actually did have it finished yesterday, but being the tired ditz that I am, I had it all nicely coloured and formatted and forgot to actually post it. Oops. ;P (You should add this to The List, Jariko!) Please keep in mind that, while you can consider the contents of the newsletter general IC knowledge around the Old City, some things (or everything, for that matter) may or may not have been made up by me. I make no claims of truth! You know how gossip goes.
- Newsletter Thanks! Thanks to everyone who submitted info for the newsletter! I really appreciate it, and you've given the OC new fodder to gossip about and RP over!
- Me! Me! Me! Yes, about me, your FacHead. School is still being crazy, and my desktop HD decided it wanted to blow up yesterday (well, not literally, but it's pretty much dead nonetheless). My laptop is thankfully behaving itself, as is the home and school internet, so I will be around but I'll likely be distracted (since I tend to log in during class or while cooking or watching TV or something; I can't help but multi-task while on a laptop). If you need me for any FH-y things, you're always welcome to @mail and/or page. I may not get to you right away, but I _will_ get to you eventually. So please don't think I'm ignoring you or unavailable, I'm not; I just may not necessarily be available at that moment. :)
- Dirty Deeds! Kariha's player has recently shared with us the lovely Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap guide originally written by Pangaros' player! It's a little out of date, but she's working on fixing it up, so it should be all shiny and current soon. This is an invaluable resource and an absolute must-read if you plan on doing anything even remotely illegal and hope to not get caught, so check it out today! (http://www.digitaltoccata.com/firan/oldcity/dirtydeeds.html)
- Current Behaviour. I've noticed that things are a little tense among the playerbase as of late, and I'd just like to remind everyone that Firan is known for being a very OOC friendly environment, and it's up to the players to ensure that it remains that way. This doesn't mean you all have to like each other, and I'm certainly not calling anyone out or trying to point fingers in a passive-aggressive manner, but there are ways of politely disagreeing without getting snarky and rude. Try to be considerate of other peoples' feelings and keep the drama IC. If you have an issue with a fellow player and feel a mediator is in order, and you're comfortable discussing the issue with me, then I can always try to help; that's what I'm here for, after all. If not, 'help @playercomplaint' and the cross-referenced files are the way to go.
- Black Market? OC Leadership? Events? So, the feedback regarding the black market (http://www.legendary.org/forums/index.php?&showtopic=7682&st=) and OC leadership discussions on Invision (http://www.legendary.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=7725) have been somewhat sparse, and the feedback regarding TPs/events has been non-existent. This is all fine and dandy -- I can certainly come up with TPs/events to run on my own and use what input is already given for the discussions -- but please keep in mind that you'll have no say at all in the decision-making processes unless you allow your opinion to be known. So, let your voice be heard! If you're shy about giving your opinion, you can always @mail them to me, and I'll ensure that it's heard but you remain anonymous. :)
