Sweltering unrelenting summer heat, little to no rain, plants drying up to die and dust storms plague the Old City. The canals a murky brown stagnet swirl of mud, raw sewage, garbage and algae. The smell this year is nearly unbearable, even for the poor who live here. Many abandon their homes to take to the Riverside to lay a blanket down taking advantage of whatever breezes are available at night and sweaty bodies clog the shorelines in an effort to remain cool. Who feels like working?
Sitting under the bridge, in the shade with his feet in the river not far from the little Temple, Warrik has a small group of women surrounding him, doing their laundry in the cleaner river water. They beat the clothing on the rocks and work together to ring it out after, laying it a pile on the shore to be hung later. The old gossip monger, suffering miserably from the weather tells his news in a quiet raspy voice. "Yea, now that Kachina is dead, there ain't no one doin' no cleanin' up in the ol' city an' it has really started ta stink. That dust storm dumped so much dust inta the Dagger an' Dice an' inta the Barnacle that ya kin still see footie prints on the floor when folks come in. It's a mess. There was a pile o' it so big I couldn't get outta my door after an' hadda wait till someone digged me out. I hear tell that durin' the height o' the storm folks was bein' blown inta the canals an' more then a couple drowned, covered in slime an' whatnot. Then would ya believe that them Griffon womens hadda go an' EGG the White Dove?! With all the heat, that really stinks, an' now. I hear tell that Yori was charged with gettin' it cleaned up an' gettin' a crew tagether ta clean it. It ain't been done yet unless them Griffon womens keep comein' back. I hear tell they has a secret meetin' place in the Griffon district an' if anyone finds it fer the boss, I bet he would be happy." Warrik takes a drink from his water bottle then continues. "This past festival, everyone was takin' advantage o' all the good free foods an' some folks even competed. I heard there was a group tryin' ta win the Boss a title so he could do us all better, but that didn't happen. I heard that Pakeera was gonna meet with the Regent cause o' a crazy waller tryin' ta poison some noble kids. I donno if she did yet or not, but I bet he takes more then just some advice from her. She's a fine lookin' woman she is. She is more then worthy o' some better bloodlines. Her kids is growin' fast too. They keep Susia an' Orthia busy tryin' ta keep them clean in this dusty weather too. But now that the Baths is free, I bet more will take them. I know I took two in one day so now I am all set fer the year! Pretty soon Pakeera's kids will be out harassin' the wallers at the nook with Niobe, who I hear is lookin' fer a teacher in the finer arts o' bein' tough. I am surprised that Jazayeri don't get off her ass an' teach the little brat. But that Jazayeri, she has been meetin' with all kinds o' x-slave types. They talk fer hours about Ellish an' I even saw Fannisha with her makin' a drawin' o' Ellish. Gilin was like askin' Jaz why she had that picture from Fannisha an' Jaz just blew her off. An' my ain't that Gilin' gettin' pretty? She don't look like no Jaz spawn ta me, notta bit." Wendos again pauses to take a drink and to dabble his toes as a water fight ensues with the washer women. After a few minutes and a few laughs, he continues. "Farik, Umeko an' Tavelik has all been pretty quiet lately an' Furachi is like not movin' from the shade. The boss an' Moira has been movin' stuff from the south docks up inta the north west part o' the Ol' City an' spendin' a buncha time at the Ranivik ol' house. Well, not ol' but new rebuilt house stuff. I heard that the boss was gonna build Yori a house an' that Jaz wanted Yori ta move back ta the Istems villa, once that is renovated. Umeko is livin' there with her an' Furachi. An' ain't anyone seen Pendasala's kids? They is gettin' right big now an' turnin' inta little peoples all o' their own." Another pause then, "OH an' the Whores. Undeena is doin' whorin' now (after havin' them three kids an' all) I donno why she started doin' that, but I spose it's a Hydran thin'. Probably booted her from the clan again. I hear that she knows more then just the 'Hydra position' too. Might hafta go an' watch. I think they has watchin' specials from time ta time. She's currently lookin' fer a sponsor. Wendos is runnin' a brawl at the Openin' Gambit an' Jazayeri is supposed ta help him. So anyone thinkin' o' makin' some bettin' money should go an' watch, besides, it's better ta get outta the heat an' stuff. It's important that we like support Wendos or he might toss a scroll at ya or somethin'." Warrik wipes his brow and stands up, "That Haffie Beyzo was like hangin' out with that one waller who is gonna like fight at the Gambit. He like led her ta the Dagger ta get out of the dust storm. He an' Jaz was actually talkin' too an' it was almost civil. Seems like thin's is pretty calm here in the ol' city. Beyzo is takin' up the slack that happened when Kach died. He has his own crew now. Oh a' someone busted inta the ol' well an' the boss wants ta remind folks ta keep a eye out in the ol' city fer dumbass wallers that ain't mindin' their own business." (ooc: Use 'Thugyell' to call for Old City help) With that, the old gossip monger heads off to a quiet shady place where he can snooze a bit.
