In the spring, the Old City streets become quagmires of mud and sewage. Heavy rains feed into the stagnent canals which in turn, feed into the streets and flood the lower levels of many of the tenements and homes. The deep aroma of the mildewy molds saturate the air both inside and out. The Old City, forever monotones of gray, bursts into color along the Riverside where the planted wildflowers remember those who have passed.

Warrik, the old gossip monger, slowly makes his way to the Riverside, picking a large rock to plant his bottom upon. The gay conversations of the laundrywomen and their children echo out as a midday break in activity grinds to a hault once the old man is spotted. Within a few minutes, all are gathered at his feet and Warrik's rheumy old eyes seem to stare out across the river, mostly unseeing of those around him. When all are settled, he begins. "Ya know, this ol' city Olympics Wendos has made up is right on interestin'. Seems that this contest o' sorts will be runnin' along side the Festival. I hear tell that there is a tug o' war, a scavanger hunt with points fer various activities with these folks, Berdeena's Susia's, Jazayeri , an' Yokus thus far--it's still anyone's game, ya know? But there is other games like a battle royal an' a relay race. Donno who's winnin' so far. I did hear that Moira was laughin' that Jazayeri gots kicked a few times when she was tryin' ta 'appropriate' a horse that she finally gived up on. I hear too that Wendos is gettin' a set o' iron armor fer the winner, or sometin'. Maybe it's somethin', I don't quite remember though. Oh but speakin' o' Wendos, did ya all hear that he is quite smitten with a dried up ol' Tic woman who is like ol' enough ta be his mama? Did ya hear that not only is she ol' but she is nuts too? She talks ta dolls? Ya gatta wonder what a young feller like that is doin' thinkin' about marryin' a biddy like that? I mean, most men want sons ta boss around. Some folks has said he's marryin' her fer her money or land, an' that she's gatta kick off soon. That might be the reason too." Warrik takes a moment to clear his raspy throat and then takes a swig from a bottle before he continues.

"Now in the regular Olympics, the ol' city had lots o' people enter an' some even won some medals. Panyos won a silver, his brother Havidius won like a couple silver an' a gold, Jaz won a gold an' Yokus won a bronze. Wendos didn't win nuthin', but he tried. Looks like Havidius is the guy ta watch in our own olympics with all his muscles, like his daddy." Warrik again pauses in his news to take a swallow from his bottle and bat a few flies from his face. "Now, where was I? Oh right, marriages. Susia wants ta marry this waller. Seems her family don't much like him, but after Jazayeri sent out a few kids ta check into this creep an' then she actually like talked ta him too. Seems that if he kin get permission some how ta marry Susia, he will come an' live here with Susia. That's tons better then what Adamanthaea did, which is run off ta the walls ta marry that Griffon smith. She is nervous about hasin' done that too, since she knows that alotta folks get the piss beat outta them fer doin' just that. She spent some time in jail though fer smackin' a noble kid waller. Not just a noble though, not her! She smacked a royal noble waller kid. Maybe that's why no one has hassled her about leavin'? I donno if she is still in jail or not. Knowin' royals, she will be tried an' hung fer treason or somesuch. They baby their kids ya know?"

He continues to the next topic without missing a beat. "Now, them Doves. Paulina has been workin' her ass off (literally) since she became a Dove an' they auctioned off her first time. Now I hear that Jesika is gonna be initiated next week as a full fledged Dove too. Get some new blood there an' another Tic which Luralee will like no doubt. At a masked party, them wallers gots ta strip off her clothin' fer fun. Not Luralee's but that new one, Jesika. Luralee and Doyana was naked though. Just masks and mud to cover what little dignity they both have. Wrestling. In the mud. Wasn't much of a fight, though, despite there being plenty of money riding on the occasion. Doyana trounced Luralee, who was apparently too distracted with trying to kiss the other whore. The doves were then both auctioned off, which turned into an interesting bid as each of the men added 25k to the pot to see Doyana and Luralee together, rather than buying their time for themselves. Them Doves is hasin' another party night fer them noble wallers an' I know that some folks might just go down by the nook there ta see who might come. " Sounds of a scuffle breaks out and some children can be seen wrestling around on the ground. "Oh that reminds me- Jariko an' Niobe has been seen more often then not fightin' with fists an' knives an' endin' up gettin' Moira ta stitch them up again fer it. Least they is keepin' her busy when Genaros ain't. Oh an' if ya ain't heard, give some good words fer that Dragon Clan Leader. Fer some reason I don't know, Sangreos wants it that way an' well we all gatta do what the boss says ta do. Ya know?" With that, the old fellow gets up and when he does, the whole group breaks up and the women go back to their homes with clean laundry and dirty children. Only the hum of the insects that visit the wildflowers, remains.
