The summer drags on, with rains, with heat and with the various urchins and thugs roaming the streets, going about their daily activities. A sense of tension fills the air, crackling with the summer storms that swell the river and the canal.

The four gossips of the Old City gather one evening in the Barnacle Inn, a weight in the air among them. They sit at a table in front of the fireplace, speaking in hushed tones, a shadow over their faces and on their words.

"I saw it m'self, Sam. It was a body, floated up from the canal." Yelda shakes her head, a strange look upon his face. "Bloated, barely recognizable. There was an Istems tattoo though. Poor little Sariben found him first. Shade and Geloe went down to help him and Karish carried it into the temple. Whispers around say it might have been Irven. Could have been Wolerian. But the body disappeared from the temple! I wonder if they burned it, or if it got stolen."

Vellutra sighs and frowns. "Yeah, but did you hear about Sanosamun? He got involved with the riots in the forum about peace. Fecker said that those in Ellish deserved their fate, so he was stocked up. I ain' sure what I think 'bout that. He was sayin' no effort should be made t'liberate 'em."

Sameera shakes her head, slamming a hand on the table. "Yeah, but we got bigger troubles now. Raef an' Geloe got themselves into some big trouble. Huge. Raef's in jail an' it don' look good fer him. Geloe's hidin' out somewhere. Not only that, word is they is tryin' t'hire th'Black Company t'find her.

"Add t'that," The Dagger wench, continues on. "that in th'northern part of th'city there were mysterious bodyguards lurkin' 'round. Seems Furen went t'go take care of 'em... but this could be big. This could be real bad. I ain' exactly sure what those two did, but it's gettin' worse every day." Sameera shakes her head, frowning heavily. "Raef's bail is three times as much as a SERIAL KILLER's. He ain' ever gettin' out."

Opalia nods in agreement. "M'guess is they is lookin' fer more than jes Geloe too. I know they was lookin' fer Pontius fer a while. Might be they is lookin' fer his wife too. They's throwin' names out all over th'place. Feckin' everyone's bein' looked at suspicious like. We's comin' inta a bad time again in th'Ol'City. Folks should be on their guard."

The women whisper and mutter as dark tidings follow summer into the Old City, the heat of the guard mixes with the heat of the long days. Tension mingles with the stench of the canal and everywhere, folks are skittish.

• Assassain Game: Asalan's game'll start in the next coming week or so! There's still a little time to get your stenis in! Send them to Shade. Get a name, beat folks up... it'll be a trip all around!

• Hydra vs. Cockatrice: Many OCers are Cockatrice now. Many are also Hydran. If you feel so inclined, get into the Hydra vs. Cockatrice thing. Beat up wallers, start fights among yourselves. Use it as an excuse to cause random chaos!
