Mid winter smacks the Old City harder than in the confines of the walls. Situated where the Ani merges with the Udell, the winds from the south and west bombard the city in the winter making the wind chill factor lower in then unwalled the Old City. Only the hardiest venture forth regularly, the rest try to concerve energy and heat, awaiting the spring thaw.

Although not one of the hardier sorts, any more at least Warrik the old gossip monger spends most of his time in front of the blazing fire in the Dagger and Dice or at the Barnacle where people come to share a drink or song with each other or exchange news. Warrik stretches lazily by the fire, still shivering despite the warmth and Yelda places a cup of hot mead in his hands, "Thanks woman," the old man nods as he takes a sip, "Y'all notice that new guy in here a while back? Seems some waller tellin' stories an' hangin' out in the Riverside temple came in an' had Jaz askin' Washiwi an' him ta tell stories an' facts about Ellish. Seems the two ex slaves didn't know each other when they was stuck there. I just wonder if that waller won't end up takin' a place here ta live. I swear they is here most o' the time now. Reesa, that haffie girl who has invisible goats an' ducks around her an' Angada was talkin' on that little girl's CoS an' what ever she said got a big reaction from the haffie who don't want her ta has children with Jariko. I know I has heard that girl talk about bein' a whore or talk about bein' a ganger.. seems she donno what she wants ta do yet, but the haffie girl is gonna stand up fer her as the adult it seems. Word on the street is that some whore was her mama. An' then Angada an' Jariko has been playin' alot tagether even with sleepovers! That Jariko is a accident just watin' ta happen though... he shoots his mouth off faster then his brain kin think thin's through an' so he finds himself on the wron' end of a knife wayy lots lately. Alot like his daddy but that his daddy would be doin' the ass kickin'. Seems Jariko can't beat Reesa, who knocked him flat on his ass or Barabus either. I hear he tosses tomatoes at the whores, well at Luralee in particular.. or was that Doyana? My eyes ain't so good no more. But when his Uncle Yori taught Jariko a lesson cause the boy wouldn't shutup, Jaz had him took ta the baths as a punishment.. which was lucky fer him cause she was gonna cut off his hair. Anywhat, can't tell if Angada likes or hates the boy, cause some days they seem ta hate each other. But then, sometimes it looks like Reesa don't much like Angada either. Kids..not that Reesa is a kid, but ta me she is.

Jaz is all up in arms against haffies being sent ta the Gladiator Circus for punnishment. Her reasoning is, why teach a haffie ta kill? Ain't they mean an' dishonest enough then go an' teach them how ta kill Firans, too? What's up with that? I heard too she sent off a few letters ta some important folks. Oh an' speakin' about gladiatorin' haffies... Barabus who is currently outta jail...errrm I think at least. Well he was this mornin'.. anywhat, the loud mouth rabble rouser of a haffie is gonna fight some animal maybe in the arena so he went off an' kilt a elk all by hisself so he said fer practice.. likely it just froze ta death an' he skinned it, but still.. he was struttin' about an' indeed, Jaz's kid couldn't hit him with a knife. He's claimin' a girly gladiator bonduin is teachin' him fightin'. So he's gettin' ta be a fighter an' we all know about that haffie general that died.. he was a pisser fer combat an' traitor ta boot. Anywhat, Jaz smacked Barabus right good fer teasin' her kid I hear. OHH an' when Reesa beat the crap outta Jariko, Jaz beat the crap outta Reesa. But Reesa swong first.. Maybe them haffies /is/ gettin' too full o' themselves? Ya know? Course, Jaz did tell her ta attack. Maybe she is just stupid fer listenin' course she could be more stupid fer not listenin' too. Hard call on that one."

Yelda just eyes Warrik who talks like there is no tomorrow and perhaps for the old fellow, there won't be one. Yelda can afford to listen patiently then and she does. Warrik takes a sip of the hot mead and since it has cooled, he finishes the mug and hands it back to Yelda to refresh. "Now Luralee, seems she gots arrested fer not knowin' how ta talk ta nobles an' is gonna be mes Manners now with some etiquette class she gatta take. Maybe she will teach the rest o' us?" he laughs at his own joke, his yellow broken teeth and bad breath making Yelda lean back away from him. "What else.. hmm what else? Oh I know. Wendos. He ain't been in the ol' city fer since before the war season. Seems his Ol' Tic wife is like dyin' or somethin' an' he has been stayin' near her. I bet that Tic clan leader will be blamin' him fer bein' too frisky with her. That's one important Tic, that ol' lady o' Wendos. Anywhat, he says he's gonna run a cockfight soon at the Gambit so get yer cocks ready..err well you all know what I mean. OH that reminds me what I heard about Susia though. I heard that she has been sleepin' around bunches which is maybe pissin' off her family At least Pakeera-- I wonder if the Doves take exception ta her doin' that? An' Susia almost gots herself arrested too, although I don't know the details on that ." The mug of steamy mead is refilled and given to Warrik by one of the serving girls who sits to listen. "Oh an' I have heard Yori an' Hessa is gettin' it on too. Seems that they started out arguin' in the Gambit then left tagether with infertility potions tucked between them. That's good fer a guy an' bad fer a woman... I wonder how the Doves think on that one too? Losin' business ta loose womens? I heard too that Jaz hadda go on some special trip ta Shamible, which must be a lie an' all, although I did hear some speech about it. Heard she was thowing fishcakes at the girl haffie too, in her alley. I hear a lotta stuff an' most o' it is just trash. Moira came back from the war an' bandaged up Jaz's jaw which was busted fer a few months. Thin's were lots less noisy durin' that time. But I saved the best fer last.." he takes a swig from the new mug of mead before telling the best news.

"Narin is talkin' about openin' a pawn shop in his trade office. Now that would be great news since the last pawn shop closed down a time back. He is currently partnering with some waller woman in the Chimeran district on one shop, so this would be his second an' it would be fer us. Offerin' us great deals on hard ta get items. I ain't heard Sangreo's thoughts on it yet though. OH an' Narin is hiring folks for his business ventures so if ya needs a job, let Narin know an' he will put ya on his work force.. I ain't sure if he is hiring kids too, ya might wanna check that out." Just then, Niobe pushes into the Barnacle and Yelda goes to take care of Madix's little girl, leaving Warrik alone to warm by the fire. (Niobe is back in town!)
