Oshta

Overview
The Oshta is the Ticanee Clan Leader and a member of the Clan Council. The word Oshta is the Ticanee word for King. Before The Exodus, when the Ticanee Clan still lived on the plains south of the Firan lands, they were divided into tribes. Each tribe took the name of a totem, and their leaders pre-pended the totem name onto their leader's title.
For example, the King of the Wolf Tribe was known as the Dolo-Oshta. (Dolo being the Ticanee word for Wolf.)
History of the Oshta
But when the Ticanee were forced to flee their ancestral lands and join with the Firans, their Kings were thought to have all died out. They bonded under one leader, Torvahl, and they called him simply, "The Oshta." The Firans, still adapting to having this new Ticanee culture in their midst, took to calling Torvahl and his family "The Oshtas" and thus, it became their last name.
When Taria Oshta took the medallion, the people continued calling her Oshta as if it were not a gender specific title. And perhaps the Ticanee know best on this score.
