PHer Guide for Newbie Help
From FiranMUX
1. Turn your newbie toggle on. (@toggle newbie-message on) This will alert you whenever a new player logs on. Make sure you greet them, offer help, just say hi! No, we don't want all 40 of us pouncing one person, so if it makes you more comfortable, aim for your clan. But hey -- better to have too much <3 than not enough. Be gracious. Be welcoming!
2. Get out there and RP, especially with newbies. Sure, your PC may not have any cause to interact with X or Y person, but we can bend our characters a little every so often. Let it happen!
3. Positivity is key. Keep upbeat. Teach them all the awesome things you wish you knew when you first started.
4. Be on the lookout. Without being negative! A newbie might come across negative behaviors that make them bitter too quickly, that mislead them or are incorrect, may confuse them, etc. Watch for warning bells. If you start to have the little red flag go off, please log and let staff know if the propblem persists and becomes a policy breech. What is more important is to demonstrate positive behavior so they know what positive behavior /is/, and so when they see negative behavior, they recognize it.
5. The Guide! Oh, lord, the guide! This is possibly the most tedious thing to do, but it needs to happen. The new players all need a nice hand-held guide around the grid -- or at the very least, the PD. Paging them an offer when you see them pop on is a good way to make sure that happens.
Also, don't forget that you can always @cpoint/nominate yourself. A lot of times, new players don't know about CP (you should point them there!) and it's weird to say "HEY AND IF I HELPED YOU CP?!?!" -- so feel free to include who you helped and what you did and we can throw you some bones since this help tends to be a bit more time consuming.
Aaaand? Add it to your @ph/report. ;)
Thanks guys! Keep on helping -- you're awesome.
