Age: 64

Starting Location: Slave Temple

Parents: Uknown

Traits: Talks to inanimate objects

Clan/Race: Ticanee

Official Statement

My name is Perdita Vettle. I was Governor Hralib's slave, which is why I wouldn't have killed him. I know that suspicion immediately falls upon the slaves of a Shamibelian. Look instead to Father Brizo. Everyone knows that Brizo has been working in slavery as a brewer. Governor Hralib preferred his vintage, and bought several bottles of wine from him last night. Who knows what poison could have been in them.

Background

Perdita was born both a free woman and a Ticanee - not a combination which results in taking slavery lightly. She was known for her fiery temper and her devotion to both the traditional Ticanee ways and the Firan pantheon. When she was free before the Fall, though she was a commoner, she worked often with the nobility in the making of exquisite silk garments which were sold out of her family's shop. Perdita is an old woman and can remember life before the Ticanee came to the city and joined the Firans, but only just. She has lost many loved ones in the wars, including her own daugther-in-law and her beloved husband Lupos. Her hatred for the Shamibelians is just as strong as her devotion to her clan. She knows her skills will be useful here - the only question is, how much will she take lying down, and from whom and for how long?

Relationships

  • Hralib -- Perdita's dead master.
  • Jalil, Orsatos, Teonia, Empyrean, Rodiste and Brizo -- Hralib's other slaves. They are in the same boat she's in.
  • Sarina and Feathyr -- Two other Ticanee slaves. She's known them both all their lives and feels protective towards them; grandmotherly. Perdita misses her people, so seeks them out regularly.
  • Melani -- This Ostha by birth is another of Hralib's slaves, but because of who she is Perdita feels a loyalty to her. She watched Melani grow up and tries to protect her if she can.
  • Scithvor -- A Shamibelian. He has something he is lording over Perdita. She wants it back.

Goals

  1. Perdita needs to prove that someone other than Hralib's slaves killed him, or she and the rest of her fellow slaves will be executed by the end of the night.
  2. Perdita should find a way to get the Skull-of-Taria cup back from Scithvor
  3. Perdita should find a way to get the Skull-of-Taria cup to a Firan priest who can give it proper funeral rites.
  4. Perdita should steal back her secret from Scithvor. She's pretty sure that according to Shamibelian law, he can't reveal it if he doesn't hold the paper.

Perdita Round One

Round One Reveal

Perdita knows that at the Slave Temple at 8PM the Night of Obala's Pride, Lucas asked Throgana to smuggle documents out of the Great Library before Hralib could burn them, and Throgana refused. They had an ugly argument--and funny how she ends up dead in that same slave temple by the next day.

Everyone knows that Hralib kept Savaren's wife, Princess Teonia as a slave, and bred her to Rodiste so as to make docile slave babies. Savaren swore revenge. Maybe he finally got it.

Everyone knows that Lucas is a strong warrior who could have subdued Hralib, one on one. It would have taken a strong man to tie Hralib up like that and leave him to freeze.

Perdita really believes that it was the other Shamibelians who killed Hralib.

Vitara Pevifa was nagging Hralib to clear the Temple of Zin for her, and make it habitable, because she had chosen it to be her personal bath house.

Hralib was trying to get his wife Nobifa pregnant, but did not trust the fertility potions that she was taking, so he commanded Melani to acquire some for him.

Vitara Nobifa made a very public showing of her upset that she hadn't yet gotten pregnant by Hralib, and she blamed his attentions on Throgana for it.

On the night Hralib was murdered, Nobifa didn't return home until 4AM. What respectable Vitara stays out so late unless she's up to sin and mayhem?

The reason Fara was allowed to be sold into slavery without land to her name when she turned fourteen is because she attempted to seduce her mother, Pevifa's husband, Hralib. Some say that Fara blamed Hralib for her disgrace, and wanted him dead.

Hralib suspected Bivin was making red cap juice in violation of Tatomir's dictate, and had them follow Renik to see if it would lead him to the goods.

Hralib told Hashi that if he didn't start achieving, he would make a Last Will and disinherit him. Whoever inherits Hralib's slaves and livestock will become one of the richest men in the Empire. That's a powerful motivation for Hashi to have offed his dad.

Hralib always told Ruffialo that he was too soft on the Firans and that's why he'd never get very far in life. Ruffialo took great offense to this.

Perdita knows that some of the firebombs that Ruffialo used for his bombing runs over the remaining Free Firan Cities have gone missing, and Hralib was livid about it, blaming him for the loss.

Round One Conceal

It was bad enough that the Ticanee were almost all captured when the Shamibelians took Anarinuell, but Perdita and the others were forced to watch as the Shamibelians sacrificed the Oshta to their dark god, and then made a skullcup out of her head.

Day in and day out, Perdita was forced to watch Hralib "toast with the Oshta", and guzzle his ale out of her bones.

Perdita has felt lost and alone since becoming a slave, and she sorely needed the Oshta's advice. Since her soul is lost, it seemed only right that she should go ahead and talk to her skull.

Soon, Perdita became convinced that she should steal the cup and find a way to get the Oshta proper funeral rites.

Perdita has thought about forging some permits for other slaves, but she's always been too terrified that she'd get caught.

Perdita Round Two

Round Two Reveal

Bivin doesn't want Tabitha to get married because then he'd have to go find his own wife or live in tents as a nomad, and Bivin kind of likes having a roof over his head.

Anorna is wearing one of Throgana's earrings. Wasn't Throgana missing an earring when they found her dead body?

Orsatos quite liked Hralib, but that Throgana detested him, and was jealous of his growing influence in Hralib's life as his administrative assistant.

Orsatos claimed that Hralib trusted him so much he was going to have him draw up his Last Will and Testament. What if Orsatos didn't like the terms and decided to kill him before his new Will could be drawn up?

Orsatos was embezzling funds from Hralib during the bookkeeping so that he could earn his freedom. Orsatos would definitely kill Hralib if he found out.

Hralib found Empyrean to be a nearly worthless slave, and forced him to learn to weave rope to "make himself useful" and gave him a lot of blue dyed pema to work with. The ropes that held the rug around Hralib's body were blue.

Hralib suspected it wasn't a raider to blame for Savanna's rape, but that Czar took advantage of the chaos and raped Savanna himself in the one way that he was unlikely to get caught. If Malentez found out, Czar would lose all his status, so there is no question he would have killed Hralib to keep him quiet.

Round Two Conceal

Perdita spends a lot of time in the Slave Temple because she's terrified of the Shamibelians and it's the only place they generally will leave the slaves alone. The only Shamibelian who is allowed in there is Tatomir. It's also a good place to think about duty, and what she owes to her clan, now that her people have been captured.

Hralib lost his Skull-of-Taria cup a few days before the Night of Obala's Pride, and was complaining bitterly about it. He suspected one of his slaves took it. He was right. Perdita stole it.

Scithvor caught Perdita talking to Hralib's missing Skull-of-Taria cup. Scithvor had been pissed about Fissia losing him that cup in a bet last year, and now saw his opportunity to take it back. He told Perdita that if she gave him the cup, he'd keep it a secret that she stole the cup from her own master--and made her write it down, as is the custom.

Hralib gave Lainath permission to cut down the Ticanee totem poles, when he was clearing land with which to woo Tabitha. The Ticanee slaves were all horrified, and wanted Hralib and Lainath dead for this offense.

Lainath has been chopping up the totem poles for firewood, and the Ticanee slaves are up in arms over it. One of the totem poles went mysteriously missing.

Empyrean, Melani, Perdita, Sarina and Feathyr stole the last remaining totem pole before Lainath could turn it into firewood. They've stashed it in the catacombs, with the dead bodies. They intend to kidnap Caree the Slaver, hijack her ship, and smuggle it out, tonight! The totem pole's safety is far more important than human lives.

Round Two Props

Round Two Additional Goals

  1. Get Caree's trust so that it will be easier to kidnap her
  2. Find out how much space her boat will hold, for smugging the totem pole out
  3. Keep any of the Shamibelians from finding the totem pole and desecrating it

Perdita Round Three

Round Three Reveal

Fissia makes earrings, doesn't she? And she may not have liked Throgana having anything she made, being a dirty Firan slave. Possibly she even killed Throgana for it.

Round Three Conceal

Perdita is worried that Scithvor might be a suspect. If his tents are searched someone might find the scroll with her secret on it and the Skull-of-Taria cup.

Round Three Props

Scrolls for forging documents

Round Three Additional Goals

  1. Forge a new scroll and replace her confession that Scithvor has with it
  2. Keep the totem pole safe, it's of vital importance
  3. Forge travel documents for the other Ticanee so they can move the totem pole from the catacombs
