Performing a Wedding

Overview

If you're asked to perform the wedding ceremony, please plan on being there. Everyone understands that RL can change those plans, but if this happens, please notify at least one of the couple as soon as possible so they can make other arrangements. Nothing is more frustrating than going through weeks of preparation only to be stood up at the altar by the priest, and staffers simply cannot be expected to just drop whatever they're doing to stand in as a NPC priest. This also applies to making any items. If something will prevent you from doing so, it's a simple courtesy to inform the couple.

Aside from turning up to perform the ceremony itself, as the officiating priest you should consider roleplaying with the couple to be to ask if there is anything special they have arranged for the wedding. You should also, certainly, talk them through the ceremony itself to be sure they understand the maze and what they need to have prepared, wedding necklaces for example.

For priests of the True Temple you should certainly discuss their chosen vows with them to be sure they're appropriate. If the couple are of mixed-clans then you should certainly, before considering whether to perform a ceremony involving a pagan, be discussing the religious upbringing of any children from their union.

Should the couple marrying be commoners from different clans, they should have obtained a legal document granting permission for their marriage. To avoid any difficulties for yourself, or them, you should ask to see it.

In order to perform the actual ceremony itself, once the couple have made it through the wedding maze, the priest uses the ritual/marry <player> and <player> command. This tags the couple as married for code purposes and also sets the spouse field in their @family which is then common knowledge IC.
