Overview

Petula was born on January 4 to Aperan and Tullia in Nelanos, the Place of the Hill Spirits. Seeking to accommodate her father's desire for a male child, Pet was something of a tomboy and a bully as a young child, but highly imaginative and always drawing the other children into her games of make-believe. To justify her fascination with digging in the dirt, her parents apprenticed her to a local apothecarist; her interest branched into the healing arts and when, after her Ceremony of Souls, Petula requested leave to pursue advanced training, her parents gave their blessing and packed her off to Anarinuell.

Ranks & Offices

Appalled at the lack of city organization in times of crisis, Petula joined the Fifth Division as a healer and held the rank of Sentry. She completed one full two-year term before unenlisting, which earned a few tongue-clucks but no lasting damage to the woman's reputation. Still a Sentry within the Eagle Clan's military, there have been a few murmurings of a possible Supply Division. No doubt Petula will be involved with it, should there be any truth to the rumors.

Petula maintains a level of healing supplies for the military at the Eagle Medical Clinic, which she oversees in her capacity as the clan's Minister of Health. Through the clinic, she is hoping to organize volunteer work, including the gathering of medicinal herbs and the upkeep of the Eagle Children's Registry, a database created to assist with the identifcation and retrieval of lost or missing children.

More recently, Petula was inducted into the Temple of Soli as an Initiate, having worked there since her arrival in Anarinuell as one of the Temple's cooks.

Family Life

Siblings

Petula is sadly the only child of a Bear couple. However, she's gained a few siblings via marriage into the Cylisti family.

Yacen: Yacen is Yashila and Lucian's eldest natural son. Yacen and Petula share a comfortable albeit distant relationship.

Phillida: Phillida is Yacen's wife. Petula speaks well of the younger woman, just as likely to refer to her as a sister versus sister-in-law.

Ashian: The younger natural son of Lucian and Yashila, Ashian shares the nursery over the family shop with the rest of the Cylisti brood. Because he's older, she often enlists his help with watching over his cousins when bringing them all on outings.

Eliva: Daughter to Lucian and Yashila, Eliva shares the nursery over the family shop with the rest of the Cylisti brood. She's a sweetheart, and helps to balance out the ratio of boys to girls in the nursery.

Sedec and Sala are more adopted children of Lucian and Yashila. Sala fell victim to the Child Pox, and passed away some time ago.

Marriage

Petula married Kelarik Cylisti in mid-June of 39 A.U., much to the dismay of old ladies and young girls everywhere. Theirs was very much a love match, and throughout their courtship and early marriage, it was rare to see the two apart. The wedding brought with it a clan change, Petula leaving the Bears to become an Eagle and a Cylisti, and it is perhaps the differences there that made the couple grow apart. Then again, perhaps the two have simply settled into their new life and have gained some independence from one another. Whatever the reason, their bond no longer leaves them joined at the hip quite so often. Since the soldiers returned triumphant from Ellish, a sillier Petula makes an occasional appearance, and the couple are seen out together more frequently.

Children

Katia: (Jan 4, 40 A.U.) Her first natural child, Katia was born on Petula's 19th birthday. A grumpy girl with stocky little limbs, Katia resembles her father, though Petula sheepishly admits that the child's aggressive behavior (and tendency to chase, capture and 'heal' animals) might be her contribution to the little girl's personality.

Damen: (Jan 3, 40 A.U.) Little Durnim was placed into Petula and Kelarik's temporary care while the issues surrounding his birth were sorted out. The sad little baby wrapped his wee hands around the couple's hearts, and the first action of the Eagle's new Lower Court was to rename him Damen, then name him a Cylisti as he was officially adopted. Still sad-eyed and often quiet, the boy tends to express himself best through the use of colorful paints and whatever canvas he can find.

Alerik: (Nov 2, 40 A.U.) Petula's first natural son, Alerik was born almost 10 months to the day after his siblings. Grown into the songbird he promised to be as a baby, this wee Cylisti makes music with everything - including his body! Armpit noises are a special favorite.

Teagan (Jul 10, 42 A.U.) This newest Cylisti was born in Soli's temple in the morning. A relatively painless and quick birth, Petula felt inspired to sing - and no sooner had she finished the Solian lyrics of 'Upon My Back' than her little boy came into the world! He was promptly introduced to family and friends in a small party thrown to welcome him at the Soaring Eagle.

Accomplishments

  • Obtained the position of Minister of Health for the Eagle Clan.
  • Won 1st Place in an Art Competition to honor the Seven Heroes.
  • Assisted during the quarantines of the child pox and the Red Bloom epidemic.
  • Created (and still maintaining) the Eagle Child Registry.

Enemies

Petula has no known enemies. She does tend to avoid the more aggressive bathhouse attendants, of either gender, and is cautious around at least a few of the women in love (or lust) with her husband.

Allies

Foremost among her friends and close acquaintances, Petula is occasionally associated with the great healers, Balinda Garkansen and Wylma Histaru, with whom she has worked on various projects. Petula also enjoys a close relationship with the High Priestess of Soli, Halla Ameeros, and has nothing but praise for her sponsor, the Lady Shenisa Manosik. She often teams up with Serina Jaffus and Soliana Verber to explain the 'mysteries of womanhood' to their husbands. Generally speaking, Petula tries to be a friend to all, while rarely speaking at length about her own personal life.

Scandals

Petula's name is not attached to any major scandal. She pleaded for mercy when children attacked a pavilion tent with painted meatballs during a spring festival, and took a few punches when a mob on the temple path was overcome with anger, but these were simply cases of being in the wrong place at the wrong time.

Miscellany

Habits

  • Petula collects old, abused or tired animals like some girls collect dolls. She often despairs over how she will move them all to safety in the event of an emergency, having more or less adopted them as children.
  • On the subject of collections, Petula delights in gathering fragrance samples, particularly those originals crafted by the city's top perfumers.
  • Petula absorbs lyrics and choreography like a sponge, and has amassed quite a large number of songs and dances which she frequently and enthusiastically shares, having committed herself to archiving and spreading history through this medium.
  • Despite years 'under the influence' of her new clan, Petula still takes time for tea everyday, and may be the only person in Anarinuell who admits to liking the flavor of yarrow.
