The Firan Airforce
The Firan Airforce was developed to counter the threat posed by the shamibelian air forces. Whilst there are two mounts available; griffons and giant eagles they are almost exclusively mounted upon griffons. There is only one Giant Eagle currently in the city and she is said to only allow one person to ride her, Sharin Rissik.
With the relative youth of the Air Force compared to the shamibelians' air forces -- and the fact that the Firans have far fewer griffons and pilots than their enemies -- casualties in the Air Force are higher than those of other units, although service in the Republic Air Force is looked upon as an honor and a privilege.
Piloting Regulations
There are a lot of rules, laws and policies relating to pilots and the control of their animals. All pilots should be familiar with these rules and regulations as breaking them will have IC (and potentially OOC) consequences. These rules can be found here.
Equipment
Pilots in the Air Force can wear either leather, bronze or iron armor, as it suits them and is legally appropriate. Republic pilots are required to wear their republic uniforms unless permission has been granted by their Commanding Officer. This current regulations on appropriate kit for each rank can be found here (link to military page on kit/ranks coming).
Applying
Anyone can apply to join the Air Force, but preference is given to veterans of other units in the Republic military. Special training is required to become a pilot, and certain skills are required before a unit member is given a griffon of their own and considered a pilot. Until you become a pilot, you will be assigned a griffon from the training pool which can be used to practice your piloting skills with in the presence of an instructor.
Piloting Skills
There are certain minimum skills required to become an official pilot. These skills can be gained during training and are not pre-requisites for being accepted as a pilot trainee. Prospective enlistees should also have high reflex and agility attributes and a size attribute of 3 or 4.
