Overview

Social nominations are matters brought to the attention of staff via use of the @social/nom command. These are important because without them, staff might miss crucial things going on the game that the Firan People would notice and care about. It also helps us recognize the triumphs or failures of some characters on the grid that we would otherwise not know about.

Social nominations go to the Player Helpers for review, and they decide whether or not to adjust them or send them up to the Thematic Direction area for review.

When to Make a Social Nomination

  • Against Your Character's Interests: Many times, you'll see someone do something on the game that your character approves of, but you know for sure the people would hate, or vice versa. This is a great time to use the @social/nom command, and even better to specify at the end of the cut-and-pastable emit that you think it's worthy of a social adjustment but your character can't use IC means to make it happen.
  • A Great Big Deal: If a praise or diss campaign could be launched by your character over an issue that would not necessarily be a GREAT BIG DEAL to the people, you should pursue these IC means instead of using the @social/nom command. However, if the matter is, in fact, a GREAT BIG DEAL and likely to cost or gain a character more than 100K social points, then use @social/nom.

Proper Format of a Social Nomination

A social nomination should be in the form of an emit that a staffer could simply cut and paste as the official opinion of The People.

Example of a Bad Social Nom:
I think Elianos should be hit for 10K social points because he was once seen talking to a fish.

Example of a Good Social Nom:
Elianos was seen talking to a fish. Has the old man gone mad? The people seriously wonder.

Also, a social nomination should be extremely specific. Three specifics it should include are:

  1. The details of the event being nominated as known to the NPC population
  2. Who would care about this event (ie. The Bear Clan, the Commoners, the whole Republic?)
  3. Why these people would care
Example of an insufficient Social Nom:
The people think Avahlon is a wuss.

Example of a detailed Social Nom:
Prince Avahlon was seen dancing naked in the forum last week. With lingering doubts about the
sanity of the Elianik family combining with a general horror at any young noblemen being more
concerned with unseemly dancing than preparing for war, the people of the Republic lose
all respect for the young prince and demand that the Viceroy take action against him.

Staff reserves the right to edit the wording of your nomination to conform with the overall thematic vision for the game.

Community Point Costs

Henceforth all social nominations will cost 1CP. If your social nomination is approved, your CP will be returned to you. If your social nomination is considered to be of excellent quality and important to the game, you will not only get back your CP but we will give you an extra one.
