Overview
Pontius is a man of no last name - he is the sort of fellow that doesn't earn himself any distinctions from the leadership of the Firan people. He was supposedly born in Arinzi, originally of the Hydra Clan - though he does not have the colouring of a typical Hydra man, so some of the caretakers at the orphanage where he grew up hinted that he might have been the child of some Eagle whore from Lurashar. In either case, he was forced to stay in the orphanage until he was almost sixteen years old, when the authorities reluctantly gave him his Ceremony of Souls - and he wasted no time in emigrating, settling on the outskirts of Anarinuell, in the Old City, beyond the great walls that surround the capital.
Pontius was not a kind man - and though he was an armourer of some skill, he was not a particularly hard-working man either. He was a layabout and a troublemaker, and everyone who knew him said he had a very bad temper - though he did have the ability to schmooze and pretend to be deferential when it served his purposes. He was a horribly ugly man, with a lion-shaped birthmark on his cheek, nasty sharp yellow teeth, and perpetually grimy and disheveled hair (both on his head and his face), and he prided himself on the fact that he had never visited the Anarinuell Bath House - he considered it a waste of money, and so consequently he stank to high heaven.
Family Life
Pontius was married to mes Triane, also of the Chimera Clan. Their matrimony was one that many had doubted in the past, though they had been married for some time before he died, and a lot of the scandal seemed to have passed by the end. They were married in a Ritual of Assertion, where both declared that they would be the spouse of the other, without the presence of a priest - something that some clans do not approve of at all.
When he died, his wife was pregnant. He never met his child -- a daughter named Pilate. As an orphan, Pontius knew nothing about his parents, nor was he aware as to whether he has any siblings. Shade was his sister-in-law, and she was always providing him with free food - something that he seemed to appreciate, as cheap as he was.
Accomplishments
None that should be mentioned in polite company. He was rather openly a gangster, though who knows what gang he was affiliated with, and what dastardly acts he committed on that organization's behalf.
Allies
- Raef seemed to be an ally of his.
- Triane was his wife, and they seemed to get along alright.
- Shade gave him food - and it wasn't poisoned. So that was friendly.
Enemies
- The Hydra Clan seemed to be on Pontius' bad side, as one can see from his scandals section. He disliked just about any Hydra, though a few of them seemed to bring about a particularly virulent hatred from him: Zutriana, for whatever reason, was one of them - as was his ex-sponsor, Osirus. He's openly venomous against Amenik too.
Scandals
Inquisition
There have been plenty of scandals involving Pontius.
One of the earliest, and most scandalous, was his involvement with the True Temple's Inquisition. Several Hydra Lords busted into his apartment in the middle of the night (in the Old City, no less) and abducted him - they bound him with rope and began to carry him off, intending to Inquisition him for false-worship among other crimes.
Fortunately for him, several Old City thugs discovered the group as they were attempting to smuggle him out - fisticuffs resulted, and the Inquisition had to flee from the Old City with its tail tucked between its legs, sans the prisoner they had wanted.
Clan Change
Pontius was quick to petition Torianos for citizenship in the Chimera Clan, and it was granted - due in large part to the fact that Pontius claimed he was being oppressed because of his polytheistic religious beliefs. At his execution however, he announced his atheism shortly before being hanged, confirming that all of that was pure theatre.
Marriage
After this, he was accused of having brutally beaten and raped mes Triane, and he was eventually interrogated by Old City authorities who found him not-guilty. Whatever happened to her, she was found bloodied and beaten without clothes in the middle of the Old City - and a few days later the pair had tied the knot.
One vigilante seemed to be dissatisfied with the situation as it stood, however - a vague relative of mes Triane's, named Vicklo, took it upon himself to rope Pontius up - he attempted to dump him into the canal and was only thwarted when Raef fortuitously wandered into the area and stopped the murder. After that, Vicklo himself vanished under mysterious circumstances. Pontius apparently confessed to Vicklo's murder and the murder of several other people, along with a variety of other crimes some time later.
The Painting
A bit after this incident, Pontius got himself into another bind when, attempting to get his wife expelled from the Temple of Firanos, he put up a very offensive picture of her bound and clothed like a whore - it was placed on the very arches of the Temple complex, for all to see. Princess Thaddia reacted particularly strongly to this situation and put out a man-hunt for little Triane, whom many commoners were sure was a secret-Princess to receive this much attention - and eventually mer Pontius was arrested on the public hunting grounds and hauled into Chimera jail where he stayed for several months.
Eventually he was interrogated and released, found not-guilty once again on the crime of rape against his wife, among other crimes - though he admitted freely to having crafted the painting of her and placing it over the Temple Arch.
Crimes and Execution
Pontius was known to be one of the most infamous gangsters in the Old City. He went by the name of 'the Lion,' and was the top-thug for a long period of time. He admitted to his allegiance at the site of his execution, constantly threatening the crowd and bringing up his thug-name. He apparently murdered several people for a variety of reasons, from revenge to simple coin, and he was implicated in a number of robberies, and even the kidnapping of Domiak Mondarik, son of the war hero Omiak. The thug also apparently absconded with all of Omiak's various medals and commendations. He was a known customer of the black market, and his dealings are well recorded, and he is believed to have made millions without any sponsor at all linked to him - though not much of that money was ever recovered.
The Guard eventually learned about his involvement in these criminal activities, and they sent agents after him - however, the crime boss went into hiding, having apparently been tipped off. He was unfound for many months, but marched into the middle of the Palace District during the Festival and tried to take Lady Tanya Oshta as a hostage, though he was captured thereafter. He was hanged a short while later in the forum, while children threw tomatoes at him.
Description
A young man with a birthmark on the left cheek, Corpse of Pontius has
green eyes, chin-length wild sable hair and rosy skin. Corpse of
Pontius appears to weigh about 175 pounds and stands about 5'8" tall.
This young man is neither tall nor heavy compared to the average Firan
adult, but he is far more muscular than usual. His legs are like the
trunks of trees, thick and corded, his arms bulge with enormous power
even when he isn't flexing, and his chest is barrel-sized and heavily
bulked with muscle. Despite the enviable shape of his body, Pontius is
not particularly attractive in the face. He has teeth that are jagged
and yellow, his cheeks often are smeared with dirt and grime, and he
wears a wiry beard, thick and unkempt, that is missing a rather large
patch on his left cheek where a birthmark has stunted growth. The mark
itself is highly unusual, taking a fuzzily leonine shape, raised from
the rest of his rosy skin and darkened an almost purple. From afar it
almost looks like an intentional tattoo; up-close it is not as
convincing, though it still retains the vague shape of a predatory
cat, if you squint at it. Despite his flaws, this young man's green
eyes are cool and mossy, a shade that is both uncommon and compelling
to many, and his wild sable hair accents them quite well. For a Hydra,
his skin is particularly fair, with rosy highlights throughout, and he
usually makes a good show of exposing at least some of his
musculature, which provides for a happy distraction from his face.
