Confused about how to pronounce the game's made-up words? That's okay, lots of people are. This page presents the official pronunciation for people, places, and things in the Firan world.
Please do not add your own pronunciation guesses to this page. If you would like us to add a word, feel free to edit this page to add the entry, but let us fill in the pronunciation (in the wiki markup, that means adding a term after a semicolon, and leaving the stuff after the colon blank).
Pronunciation Guide
In general, pronounce English words and real-life names as you normally would in English. Pronounce made-up words using the following guidelines:
- Relax. If you get it wrong, we'll still probably know what you mean. We probably won't even correct you.
- Relax. Don't over-pronounce these words. Most of the sounds in the words are just like English words.
- Emphasize the first syllable of all two-syllable words and many words with more than two syllables. Emphasize the second-to-last syllable of polysyllabic words when it sounds better or makes the word come out faster. For example, Vahlgellan sounds better if you emphasize the GEL instead of the VAHL, but Ticanee and Bonduin sound funny if you emphasize their middles.
- Pronounce G as in Girl, not juh. Pronounce C as kuh, not suh (most of the time). Pronounce CH as tchuh, not shuh (most of the time).
- H is usually not pronounced when part of a dipthong like AH, EH, IH, OH, or UH. For example, Nekaht is pronounced "neh KAWT." (Dyslexics beware! It's not "Nekath"!)
- If the word looks Italian, you can probably pronounce it that way. Taleo is pronounced "tuh LAY oh." Candicci is pronounced "can DEE chee."
