Overview

Rikon has the kind of charm that exudes from his physical presence before he even opens his mouth. His crinkle-eyed smile and his youthful, athletic form are both part of the overall painting. Only now and then, when he's gazing into the distance, do his eyes betray a sort of volcanic emotion lying, barely concealed, beneath the surface. He has sure and steady hands. Beneath a tunic, one might see the occasional hint of a slave tattoo upon his shoulder. His arms and legs have corded muscles that recall to mind wrestlers and runners from the games. Yet, he's almost never to be found with the dew of sweat upon his brow, and his appearance is always compulsively clean.

Born to Lady Bashona and the former royal Cockatrice house Lord Rikon along with his mother and his brother Adan dissapeared without a trace shortly before the Shamibelian Air Raids of 24 A.U. For many years it was assumed they they were dead, captured by the Shamibelians and sacrificed. But years later this would be revealed to be a false belief when Lord Rikon, along with his brother Lord Adan returned to the city after having spent years as slaves to the Shamibelians.

Though the Istabannos family had been essentially dissolved Lord Rikon remained a Cockatrice and with the help of a marriage prize married Clan Leader Diamia IstaNydiam, effectively joining the the former and the current royal Cockatrice houses. Though not a pacifist Lord Rikon preferred to avoid physical altercation when at all possible, though this appears to have changed recently due to the actions of Banian IstaNydiam against Lord Rikon's wife then Clan Leader Diamia. During the Kinslayer War of 48 A.U. Lord Banian accused Lord Rikon of being the son of Drik, and accused him of controlling his sister Clan Leader Diamia. In response to these accusations Lord Banian was challenged to a duel, a challenge then believed to have been issued by Lord Rikon. Upon arriving at the duel it was revealed that Banian had been tricked, and it was not Rikon he faced, but his own sister, Diamia herself. The duel was long and hard fought, though in the end it was Lord Banian as the victor, and Lady Diamia lay dead upon the ground, her clan medallion in Lord Banian's grasp.

It is said that during Lord Banian's sleep that night he was awakened by a hand pressed down upon his chest and a pain unlike any he had ever felt before. Lord Rikon had come to visit his wife's murderer and in that visit he promised Lord Banian that there would be no rest for him. That he would kill anything and everything that Banian loved until Banian himself begged to die as well.

Lord Rikon dissapeared that night, along with his guard known only as the Shadow Guard. Many believe he is laying in wait for the moment to strike and finally get revenge upon the man who caused his wife's death.

Ranks & Offices

Rikon somewhat distinctively eschews most of his titles. Nonetheless, he occupies some positions:

  • Cockatrice Clan Proxy
  • Commander, Republic Navy
  • CINCCOCK

Family Life

Parents

  • Bashona Istabannos: Rikon was born the only child of Lady Bashona and Lord Aldrikos Ista Aldrik. His father had disappeared and was presumed dead before Rikon was even born, only to return after his mother had married Prince Sadin Elianik. His mother's marriage to Sadin was annulled, and because his mother was pregnant with Adan, Aldrikos and Bashona divorced. However, this did not lead to Bashona's remarriage to the father of her child, Sadin. Lord Trikon Ista Barun subsequently married her with a marriage prize some years later. In early 24 A.U., Bashona and her two sons were taken into slavery during a Shamibelian Air Raid. While Rikon and Adan were able to escape with the help of Lord Atreides Keniwik, Bashona still remains in Shamibel. Rikon misses her and keeps her Unotian jewelry at all times in honor of her.

  • Aldrikos Ista Aldrik: This is the man that Rikon had always known to be his father, even if he was absent for most of his life. They have met a few times and while their relationship cannot be described as close, they have gotten along. This all came into question, however, in May of 48 A.U. Rikon's own brother-in-law, Lord Banian IstaNydiam, accused him of being the son of the god Drik. He named Bashona as the Dark God's consort. It was an accusation that had previously been levied against his brother, Adan, by Sadin Elianik during the Trial of the Century.

Siblings

  • Adan Ista Barun: Rikon only has one half-brother, Adan. The two were quite close with one another, escaping from slavery together, and adjusting to life in Anarinuell afterwards. Rikon was very protective of his little brother, but as Adan grew up, he felt it was necessary to push him out of his shadow. Adan married out of the Cockatrice Clan, to a young noblewoman, Lady Arika N'Gato. He had two children, before he showed up with Lady Yassamin Ista Barun, intent to divorcing his wife and marrying her. He was eventually able to do so with the help of a marriage prize. He then divorced Yassamin, who he went through such lengths to marry in the first place, and was briefly wed to Lady Lucia Tanelish (nee Junik). This, too, would end in a divorce when his third wife became very ill. He remarried Yassamin. Not very long after, however, Lord Rodiste N'Gato announced Adan's death. This was followed by the quickly marriage of Rodiste to Adan's widow, the Lady Yassamin, done through the use of Rodiste's marriage prize from an earlier festival. Rodiste and Yassamin are still at large, the former allegedly turned into a statue, and the latter missing ever since. This all makes Rikon very upset.

Marriage

  • Diamia IstaNydiam: After winning the physical pentathlon in the 38 A.U. Fall Festival, Rikon daringly chose his cousin and Clan Leader with the marriage prize. It threw the clan into spasms of happiness, uniting the Istabannos-IstaNydiam claims for good. Their marriage seemed to be a happy one, and indeed, Rikon's affection for his wife appeared to border on obsession. She was murdered by her brother Banian in a fight for her medallion, outside of the city of Unotran, in 48 A.U. Rikon was broken by the death of Diamia, his wife, who he loved. He has sworn revenge against her killer.

Children

  • Anais IstaNydiam: Anais was born on September 12, 39 A.U. She looks like Rikon's mother. She is also freaking loud.
  • Audrey IstaNydiam: Audrey was born on September 12, 40 A.U. She has brown hair, weirdly. Smiles all the time.
  • Amaryllis IstaNydiam: Amaryllis was born on September 12, 41 A.U. She had blonde hair and used to cry all the time. Her death was announced on April 6, 45 A.U. after a winter illness took her life.
  • Alexander IstaNydiam: Alexander was born on January 7, 44 A.U. He has his father's eyes but a head of golden hair. He must grow up to be a great warrior and leader, of course. Diamia seems to love Alexander, but Rikon is not giving up on forming a good relationship with his son.
  • Archimedes IstaNydiam: Archimedes was born on October 10, 45 A.U. This is Rikon's last child with Diamia.

In the wake of The Kinslayer War and his wife's death, all of Rikon's children have reportedly gone missing.

Accomplishments

Didoron Estate Riots: During the Witan Incident, angry rioters showed up at the Didoron Estate. The initial attempts by those on the scene proved disastrous, only inciting the mob to more violence. Rikon showed up and took control of the situation, quickly neutralizing the angry Cockatrices.

Missing Bear Girls: When Red Bears in Nelabam began agitating against their new Clan, a group began kidnapping Bear women. Two in particular were taken in Anarinuell, and Rikon helped find them and eventually make sure they were released.

War Season: Rikon served on the Front, distinguishing himself with a major organizational and support role, as well as valiantly going after a Shamibelian warlord single-handedly in a battle. He suffered a grevious wound because of it. The following war season, during the Reconquest Campaign, he went to the front on behalf of the Clan Council in order to ensure the return of Clan Leader Ania.

Olympics: To date, Rikon has won ten medals (7 Gold, 2 Silver, 1 Bronze) over two Olympics. The Cockatrice Clan prevailed as overall champions both of those years.

Enemies

Rikon's enemies have become crystal clear. Since the death of his beloved wife Diamia at the hands of her brother Banian, Rikon has sworn terrible revenge against everyone that Banian holds dear. There is some speculation about who makes that list (since Banian was feuding with his wife Thaddia over his alleged affair with his cousin Ania), but certainly close family members like Aeryk and Cecilia (much less Banian's son Nydias) have reason to be very, very concerned.

Allies

  • His cousins, on either side of the family. Especially Princess Akiva and (before his vow of vengeance) Lord Aeryk.
  • Clan Leader Fidelia Ista Aldrik, one of his mother's dearest friends and his father's kinswoman.
  • Lord Zafir Junik, though he needs to actually be out and about some more.
  • Anais
  • Audrey

Scandals

Some minor scandals arose in the Lord's early life: There were vague mutterings after he left the First Division. People felt that it looked suspicious for an ex-slave, but the young Lord has made up for it in spades with multiple terms in the military.

Another scandal was a supposed 'abandoning of the front' during the first part of the Battle of Ellish during the Reconquest Campaign. Bringing this scurrilous rumor up in Rikon's presence is not a good idea.

Far overshadowing either of these, however, are the accusations leveled against him during the Cockatrice Civil War. Banian, moving against Diamia and Rikon together, claimed that Rikon is the literal Son of Drik, offspring of the Dark God. He claimed further that Rikon had corrupted Diamia and caused her to sacrifice Firan children to the Dark Lord ... these claims, though often trumpetted, were never backed up with any proof, and at least the accusations against Anorna as accessory were refuted by the Clan Council.

However, what is beyond question is that these accusations helped lead to the duel in which Banian killed his own sister. Rikon has sworn bloody vengeance upon everyone that Banian holds dear, and vanished. It remains to be seen how he and his followers will enact their revenge, but few doubt that the man, Son of Drik or no, is serious.
