Overview
The famously 'least offensive Prince', Rislan seems the most middle-of-the-road of a very passionate and extreme family.
Early History
There can be no discussion of Rislan's history without a discussion of the treason of his father. Ranivor Vahlgellan was first exiled for his failures, then implicated in massive treason upon his return. He died in custody. After that time, several important people (particularly Lord Viceroy Taleo) protected and nurtured the Elianik Princes, giving them a chance to rise above the failure of their family. Rislan feels that responsibility strongly to this day.
Recent History
After Savaren's death in the retaking of Ellish, Rislan retreated from public view for a time. He returned at the eruption of the Eagle crisis, and has apparently moved past whatever *personal* crisis he was enduring, to become a dynamic and (increasingly) controversial figure in Anarinuell and the Republic as a whole.
He has taken on several responsibilities: Already Deputy Viceroy and High General of the First Division, Rislan has additionally be appointed Protector of the Eagle People, for the interim period until their Medallion is recovered (that they might regain their place as an official Clan). This has put him head to head with the radical Democratic movement, whose grasp on the Clan's common folk is very strong indeed. Many eyes watch the Eagles now, to see whether this Elianik Prince will have the strength and the cunning to lead these people back from the brink of the abyss.
Personality & Beliefs

High General of the First Division
Deputy Viceroy
Protector of the Eagle Clan
Family Life
Siblings
Savaren: Rislan's older brother was, and perhaps still is, the most important person in his life. Rislan idolized him, supported him, counted upon him. Savaren's glorious death in battle devestated Prince Rislan, who withdrew from the public for years afterward. With Savaren now so well beloved and revered, many look to Rislan to live up to the memory of the Prince that was lost.
Avahlon: Rislan seems to have been lastingly puzzled by his younger brother ... and, of course, he's far from alone in that. While Rislan tried to protect and form the young man in early life, Avahlon's eventual withdrawal into himself left the Republic no other choice than to send him off to the Oracle.
Marriage
Ania: Arranged out of political necessity, the marriage between Rislan and Ania has never been one of fairy-tale romance, even in the public eye. Still, they have supported each other and acted as effective partners, through some fairly terrible calamities. With Ania's health uncertain at best, the question of the strength of the marriage remains open.
Children
Zeylan: A dour and serious young man, Zeylan is the subject of much of his father's training and attention.
Zeynasi: The charmer of the family, Zeynasi is relentlessly upbeat and cheerful, with a care-free arrogance and assumption of her own superiority that must be very annoying to anyone who doesn't agree with her assessment of herself.
Zeythri: The scrapper of the three children, Zeythri will fight anyone, anytime, under any circumstances. When she grows into more than a tiny fraction of her future strength, she should prove formidable.
Zeyphora: Little is known of the fourth Istaneysani child, save that she was born under mysterious circumstances and vanished under mysterious circumstances. An absolutely frantic search was conducted, but to no avail. The princess remains lost to this day.
Accomplishments & Successes
Deputy Viceroy: Prince Rislan was appointed to act as Deputy to Lord Viceroy Taleo Teranzik.
First Prince High General: He was also the first Elianik Prince to be appointed to a High General position, taking over command of the First Division.
Outlasting the Eagle riots: During the tense Eagle Democracy Riots, Prince Rislan helped negotiate the eventual peaceful settlement, as well as maintaining enough of a strong Republic presence to prevent outside factions (notably the Gold Dragon Clan) from taking action on their own. The eventual lowering of tensions on both sides allowed for an outcome with the Eagles returning to the protection of the Republic.
Protectorship of the Eagles: And Rislan was appointed as the Republic's representative to protect the Eagles, making him the closest thing that the Eagles now have to a Clan Leader.
Scandals & Failures
Starving the Eagle District: It is undeniable that when the Eagles rioted, the First Division under Prince Rislan's command closed the rioters into their own district, and cut off all supplies of food. A black market trade apparently more than filled the gap, but it was (and remains) a very unpopular decision both with the Eagles and with the Republic at large.
Burning the Eagle District: There are less substantiated claims that the First Division had some hand in the fires which sprung up in the Eagle District during the period of the riots. These claims are invalidated in the eyes of most by the fact that the First Division immediately swept in to extinguish those fires, and didn't even use the opportunity to retake the district, but there are still some who loudly claim that Prince Rislan wanted to burn the Eagles in their homes.
Murder of Mer Huetzi: One of the ones who loudly blamed Prince Rislan for the fire was a Mer Huetzi. Sir Dominik had this Mer killed, and delivered his body in a trunk with messages meant to frame Prince Rislan for the murder, intending to undermine his support among the people. The jury is still out on how many people are going to believe this, especially given that Sir Dominik has so publically confessed to exactly what he did, and his son Lord Lippio has relayed private confessions from his father regarding why he did it.
Enemies
Democrats: Oh my, how the democrats hate him ... at least the democratic leadership. It remains to be seen what the rank and file mass of the clan will make of him.
Prince General Argin: Though the relationship is polite on the surface, there can be little doubt that there is a tension between Argin and Rislan, fostered both by their really *diametrically* opposing styles of leadership and by their both being in the running for the Ranivorship.
Allies
Lord Viceroy Taleo Teranzik: To all appearances, nothing can be more important to Prince Rislan than the support of Lord Viceroy Taleo. It's hardly a surprise, all told, since the Lord Viceroy took on the role of teaching and supporting the young princes after Ranivor Vahlgellan's untimely death.
Lady General Taleena Corinala: His executive officer in the First Division, Taleena is a partner and close friend to Rislan. Together, they have proved a formidable team, keeping the morale of the First Division high, and their fighting effectiveness remarkable.
Sir Lucian and Lord Lippio: Since taking over Protectorship of the Eagle Clan, Rislan has relied on many of the longest serving public figures, particularly Sir Lucian and Lord Lippio. Some (especially of the Old Blood) even say that he relies upon them *too* much.
