Official Statement
Hi everybody. I hate to spoil your drinking and carousing, but as you know, I'm Warlord Ruffialo Vettle, Son of Permethris, and I've come on behalf of my brother, Priest Tatomir. This morning, he found the dead body of our Governor, Hralib, and he wants answers. He has sent me to get your statements, in writing. I will need your name, your relationship to Governor Hralib (and his dead slave, Throgana), as well as anything you know about the crime. And nobody leaves until I get it. I'd like to start with you, Charioteer Bivin, because everyone knows that Hralib was your mother's husband, and when you were living in her basement (*hide laughter*), you chafed under his rule. What better way to be able to move back in with your mother than to kill her nuisance of a husband, eh?
Background
Life as a warlord has had its perks, but there have always been niggling questions -- questions without answers, like why the Shamibelian people believe in only one god. That is, of course, until a Firan priest lifted the film from Ruffialo's eyes. What if Obala isn't the way?
Unfortunately, it's also one more thing to keep secret. Brother Tatomir and Governor Hralib both would be more than a little displeased . . . and make no mistake, Ruffialo likes being a Shamibelian warlord. He wouldn't throw that all away.

Goals
- Ruffialo should challenge another man to a spicy food eating contest.
- Ruffialo should humiliate Anorna and find ways of making her prove her worth since she left him all those years ago for the Firans.
- Ruffialo suspects the Firans might try to use Hralib's death as an opportunity to revolt, so should learn anything he can to prevent that.
- Ruffialo should prove that none of his slaves were responsible for the murders or he'll be a laughingstock forever.
- Ruffialo should complain about losing a good breeding stud, Rodiste, if no one can prove that Hralib's slaves didn't do it.
- Ruffialo thinks Tabitha would make a great new wife with lots of land--he should find a way to talk to her alone and ensure that if he made a challenge for her hand, she would choose something easy that he could win.

Ruffialo Round One
Round One Reveal
Hralib was trying to set Tabitha up in a marriage with Malentez, and her brother Bivin wasn't happy about it. Bivin regularly enjoys his sister's huge tracts of land, and probably didn't want anyone interfering with his cushy arrangement. If Bivin could have mustered up the energy, Ruffialo wouldn't be surprised if he'd killed Hralib.
Ruffialo knows that Bivin "accidentally" told one of Hralib's secrets--which wife he preferred--and that he has refused to get himself leeched for forgiveness. If Hralib found out, he would consider this a reason to kill Bivin. Maybe Bivin did it first.
Hralib actually preferred Nobifa to Pevifa as far as wives go.
Anorna thought it was an insult that Hralib was made Governor of Anarinuell instead of her master, Ruffialo. Obala knows she has had plenty to prove to him now that she's back, and much to make up for in terms of her having 'escaped', so mightn't she have killed Hralib to impress him?
Anorna was angry with Hralib for selling Sarina to Ruffialo, because she's so insecure about her place. Maybe Anorna killed Hralib for endangering her precious status.
Anorna always resented Hralib for making the suggestion that he breed her with Rodiste, to get nice docile Hydran slave babies when she really wanted to bear children for her master, but would she have killed Hralib over it?
Ruffialo hears that Malentez challenged Hralib to a spicy eating contest last night . . .
Everyone knows that Scithvor was banished from Ellish for his exceedingly violent raids in which he accidentally killed other Shamibelians. What if Hralib's death was a violent raid gone wrong?
Everyone knows that Bivin didn't get along with Hralib very well when he lived with his mother, Vitara Pevifa, and that he was eager to move out right after he passed his Gauntlet.
Everyone knows that when Taleo was alive, and the Viceroy, he always favored the Ticanee. Those savages, like Feathyr, couldn't stand that Hralib had made a cup out of Taleo's skull--she could have killed him to get it back.
Round One Conceal
Hralib always told Ruffialo that he was too soft on the Firans and that's why he'd never get very far in life. Ruffialo took great offense to this.
Some of the firebombs that Ruffialo used for his bombing runs over the remaining Free Firan Cities have gone missing, and Hralib was livid about it, blaming him for the loss.
Ruffialo and Hralib got into a spicy food eating contest during the Night of Obala's Pride. Hralib conceded, saying, "Someday, this stuff is going to kill me." Maybe it did!
Ruffialo and his brother Tatomir have always had a tense relationship. Tatomir likes to lord things over Ruffialo and now that he's a priest, it's worse than ever. Tatomir has even been trying to use his sacrifices, and his knife, to initiate ancient ceremonies that re-animate the dead.
Ruffialo stole Tatomir's sacrificial knife.
Ruffialo tracked ash into his tent when he finally got home, in the wee hours of the morning on the Night of Obala's Pride. He was somewhere, doing something, that he shouldn't have.
Sure, Ruffialo would love to be the next Governor of Anarinuell. Who wouldn't want such a prestigious post? But the only way to get it is the support of your fellow Shamibelians. Just killing Hralib wouldn't be enough.

Round Two Reveal
Tatomir never approved of the marriage between Hralib and Nobifa, because Hralib was married to Tatomir's sister, and now to his niece, which he thinks is incestuous and wrong somehow. Or at least, just plain greedy. And frankly, Ruffialo agreed with him, but has never had that bad of a temper.
Tatomir was angry when Hralib was chosen to be Governor of Anarinuell instead of Tatomir--he was so angry that he put his electrifying hands on a hapless slave and sucked the life right out of him. Might he have been angry enough to murder Hralib because of it?
Forlanis's slave girl Katriana carries a concealed knife on her thigh.
Throgana convinced Hralib that Sarina was trying to kill him--and that he should sell her to Ruffialo as a gladiatrix--gladiator slaves have short lifespans.
Hralib sold Sarina to Ruffialo before the Night of Obala's pride as a gladiatrix slave--she wouldn't be the first slave who, once freed of her master and suspicion, then tried to kill him.
Melani purchased a great number of fertility potions from Anorna--perhaps she actually liked Hralib and was trying to get pregnant by him and just didn't want Torianos to know. It's not as if greater women had not fallen under his spell. So why would she kill him?
Emma was seen dancing with Hralib during the Night of Obala's pride until his masked wife, Pevifa, angrily intervened and slapped the girl for having the insolence to dance with her husband the one night that the usual social rules for Shamibelian men and women were relaxed.
Ruffialo suspects that Aldrin might be involved with the Firan resistance, and might know exactly where his missing firebombs are.
Rodiste always resented Hralib for suggesting that Ruffialo breed him to Anorna to create some nice docile Hydran slave babies. Although Rodiste seemed to have started to accept his role in life, it could have been a sham, and he might have just been waiting to kill Hralib for the insult to his Hydran honor.
Ruffialo notices that Rodiste has a slash mark on his face--could that have happened during a struggle with Hralib last night while he was committing murder?
Torianos repeatedly asked him to buy the slave girl Melani from Hralib. Ruffialo told him that slaves could not be taken from a Shamibelian man against his will, so long as he lived, but that if Hralib died, he would buy Melani on the block. That might have given Torianos a powerful motivation to kill him.
Forlanis won the prestigious 'stinging fly' medal of honor for bravery on the battlefield, and never shuts up about it. Overcompensation, much?
Round Two Conceal
Ruffialo has recently converted to the Firan religion. It was bound to happen, with all these Firan slaves amongst them. Now Ruffialo worships the whole pantheon, and Srenna is his patron deity. Ruffialo lived in constant fear that Hralib would find out, because he knew if Hralib found out, he would have to kill him.
The real reason Ruffialo snuck off with Sarina to the Temple District was to start a fire in Srenna's temple and sacrifice the hair of his enemies to the flame now that he has converted to pantheism. The Night of Obala's Pride seemed like the perfect time to do it. There'd be hardly anybody around. But that turned out not to be the case.
Ruffialo made a deal with Aldrin--if he would help find the missing firebombs and keep his mouth shut about Ruffialo's conversion, he'd give him a token of his mother's death--the bloody knife that killed her.

- Get other Shamibelians to commit to supporting you for the next Governor of Anarinuell -- even the women, they have secret power.
- Stop random slaves and demand to see their permits -- it keeps them in line.

Round Three Reveal
Jalil got caught traveling without a valid slave permit by Ruffialo and was put in the stocks for the night. There's no way he could have gotten anywhere near Hralib or Throgana the night they died.
Round Three Conceal
Ruffialo and Sarina made a huge fire when they made their sacrifice to Srenna. That's why Ruffialo has been tracking ash everywhere.
