The Sailor's Nook (4W, SN from the Forum) is Anarinuell's primary "Red Light District", housing a whorehouse, gambling den and an inn with a few boarding rooms that is often frequented by the coarser folk of Anarinuell. The Nook, which is situated along a spot of land where the canal meets the Ani River, is the place where most city residents go to let their hair down (so to speak) and have a bit of fun. It is considered to be part of the Old City, but is largely said to be a neutral ground for meetings and is relatively safe to enter, so long as you're not a guard.

The Sailor's Nook is the home to the Barnacle Inn, the Opening Gambit and the White Dove Rising, which replaced the original White Dove run by the famous Madame Zutiva. The new White Dove, rebuilt by Pangaros and deeded over to Moira, has been greatly expanded to operate as both whorehouse and entertainment hall, along with the new Opening Gambit next door. The latter has recently garnered a reputation as the place to go for a good game of cards or cockfighting contests.

Also in the Nook is a forge which is free to all users, and a ferry which will take passengers across the Ani River to Cockatrice lands.

White Dove Rising

The White Dove was Anarinuell's oldest and most popular whorehouse operated by Madame Zutiva, who was a popular figure amongst the nobles and aristocrats of the city. A fixture in the Sailor's Nook since the early days of Elianos' rule, it is well known for its lovely selection of whores, its discretion regarding the affairs of its clientele, and its innovative events, such as Gentlemen's Night and its whore "auctions". The military also make frequent use of the establishment and special nights are planned for them, most often before and after the campaigns in Ellish.

The White Dove also become known to the public as a place of punishment for wayward Ista Aldrik nobles, when Queen Sabine dictated that any female who disgraced the Ista Aldrik name would have her head shaved and be shipped off to the White Dove to serve as a whore. This punishment was once enacted on Aldrissa Ista Aldrik

All this was temporarily put to an end when the White Dove was destroyed by a kraken attack then its ruins burned to the ground during the Air Raid of 24 A.U., and Madame Zutiva decided to take a trip to get new ideas from their whorehouses. But public demand moved Pangaros to build a new White Dove Rising as soon as practical, resulting in a whorehouse like Anarinuell had never seen before. Unlike the old Dove, where whores had to entertain clients in their crowded personal rooms, the new Dove provides both private whore quarters, separate theme rooms for the adventurous, and a gambling/entertainment wing whose refreshments are supplied by the Dove's own kitchen. Moira inherited the business from Pangaros, but left its day-to-day operations to Sangreos Tabernik.

After the First Division invasion of the Old City in 36 A.U. and the floods caused by the blizzard of that following winter, the Dove entered a period of decline where the position of madame changed hands several times. In the year 39 A.U. life returned to the Dove with an influx of new, young whores and apparent healing of the relationship between the house and the Lord Viceroy, Taleo Teranzik.

Dove Girls

At one time, the White Dove was owned and run by the popular Madame Zutiva, who had a reputation for making sure her girls gave their customers the best time of their lives and helped them indulge in whatever fantasies they might have. Most of the Dove girls, as they prefer to be called, became whores simply because they enjoyed being with a variety of men in an intimate manner, or because they saw it as a way to earn money on their own or because they found society's restrictions on women too constricting.

A small handful have over time been sent there by Clan Leaders as a punishment for crimes such as adultery or infidelity, but contrary to rumors, these women are not treated as criminals by the White Dove and in fact some learn to enjoy their new status as whores.

While whores are not automatically considered outcasts in Anarinuell, they are viewed as separate from 'polite' society and as such, it is difficult if not impossible for a Dove girl to return to normal society and be considered as anything more than a whore. Therefore, they take delight in enjoying their freedom to entertain a man in as bawdy or rowdy a manner they want, and at times, the most naughty and bold will delight in trying to scandalize those around them. Dove girls will often wear the most inappropriate or revealing clothing in public, though they do know enough to show respect for nobility and Clan Leaders and try to stay out of serious trouble .. unless they know a man is a potential customer, and wish to play out their "punishment"!

Holding to the adage that whores, like fine wine, grow even more pleasurable as they age, many of the Dove girls go on to become private mistresses or remain at the White Dove to teach their finely honed skills to new Dove girls.

Well known for the public events held in the White Dove Rising's entertainment wing, one of the more popular events is the auctioning of a new Dove girl's virginity. Other events include masked parties and wrestling, and special festive balls and olympics. In addition, the girls are often hired out to private parties and public events.
