Official Statement
I'm Sarina, slave of Ruffialo, and Worthy Gladiatrix. It's true that I was just sold by Hralib and that I wasn't happy about it. Governor Hralib was a great man, and I was proud to be his slave. But if anyone killed him, it would have been another great man, and another thing to give me pride. We Firans are a subjugated people, but we have our leaders amongst us, and our Princes have promised to deliver us from bondage. Perhaps the Shamibelians should beware, that Princes like Zaridos can kill them when they least suspect it.
Background
Sarina was not so much obsessed with all things Ticanee as she was immersed in the culture. She loved being a Ticanee, and was someone who grew up to be someone stereotypical of their culture in many ways. She was a free spirit, the one most often to be found with her hair loose down her back, or begging for a set of beaded braids making noise as she shook her head. Face paint she'd made out of anything - real paint, dirt, what have you. Slavery after the Fall is not something she's taken to gracefully - and sometimes, there has been a price to pay for that as well.
Relationships
- Melani - one of Hralib's slaves, Sarina is zealous in trying to protect the daughter of Taria.
- Empyrean -- the Oshta's son.
- Anorna - another of Ruffialo's slaves, Anorna has shown jealousy towards Sarina.
- Ruffialo - Sarina's master, to whom she was sold as a gladiatrix.
- Torianos - Melani's husband, Sarina had been helping Torianos and Melani meet in secret.
- Feathyr and Perdita -- Fellow Ticanee
- Keeli -- A Bonduin officer in the Firan Army who Sarina used to report to. Sarina worries that the woman might have loyalty issues.
- Zaridos -- Sarina's General. He seemed like he had a brilliant career ahead of him. . .
Goals
- Sarina should prove who killed Hralib or all of his slaves, including Melani, will be killed.
- Sarina should get the Taria-Skull cup away from the Shamibelians and give it proper funeral rites.

Sarina Round One
Round One Reveal
Hralib thought Forlanis was too good at managing slaves to become a priest, and tried to convince Tatomir not to accept him as an initiate. This infuriated Forlanis.
Forlanis used to live on Nobifa's land, and when Hralib married her, he kicked Forlanis out. Forlanis never forgave him.
Renik has been stealing from his master's crop and selling it for profit on the side--Hralib found out, and was about to turn him in. Of course, his master probably would want to keep it quiet, considering what that crop is: redcap juice, an illegal substance in the Shamibelian Empire.
During a recent raid, one of Malentez' slaves, Savanna was raped. This is not done in Shamibelian culture. You don't touch another man's slaves without his permission. Sarina knows that Hralib suspected it wasn't a raider to blame for Savanna's rape, but that Czar took advantage of the chaos and raped Savanna himself in the one way that he was unlikely to get caught. If Malentez found out, Czar would lose all his status, so there is no question he would have killed Hralib to keep him quiet.
Everyone knows that on the Night of Obala's Pride, Hralib told Lainath that Osirus had too much pride, and that he bet Throgana could beat him up. She proceeded to do just that, and Osirus swore revenge. You know how prickly those Hydran men are about their pride.
Round One Conceal
Sarina and Throgana never got along because Throgana thought that Sarina might usurp her place as Hralib's favorite slave, and the jealousy was mutual.
Sarina often worries about her own loyalties. She is truly, madly, and deeply grieving Hralib's death. She wants to find his killer as much to save the Firan slaves from being executed as to take revenge upon whoever did it.
Hralib got to Sarina in a way that scared her. And then, Throgana turned him against her. Sarina tried to kill Throgana a number of times, but Hralib always intervened. But then again, one can't be everywhere all the time. . .
To make sure that she was in top shape, and could kill Throgana when the time came, Sarina had taken a form of Endab that she learned from the Bonduins and turned it into a new martial arts form with the use of torches.
The real reason Hralib sold Sarina was because she had been helping Melani and Torianos meet together, against Hralib's orders. Admittedly, Sarina feels a little bitter that helping her friends has cost her so dearly.
Especially since Melani isn't totally innocent. Hralib told Sarina how proud he was that Melani finally submitted to him. He got her pregnant and couldn't wait to brag about it to everyone. Sarina seriously worries that Melani may have killed Hralib to shut him up, and to keep him from telling Torianos. Worse, she fears that Torianos did find out. Gods and totems only know what Torianos would have done.
Many times, Torianos said that if his wife had been 'pimped out' the way Princess Teonia was, he would have murdered people and not stood idly by the way Prince Savaren did. Teonia was forced to bear another man's child, and Torianos swore that blood was called for, but Savaren let it go.
Governor Hralib gave Lainath permission to cut down the Ticanee totem poles, when he was clearing land with which to woo Tabitha. The Ticanee slaves were all horrified, and wanted Hralib and Lainath dead for this offense.
Lainath has been chopping up the totem poles for firewood, and the Ticanee slaves are up in arms over it. One of the totem poles went mysteriously missing.
Round One Props
- Hralib's keyring
- Weapons Permit
Sarina Round Two
Round Two Reveal
Hralib took Emma's virginity--she may have resented him for that and killed him dead. Of course, there's no doubt that Jalil resented it, and did want him dead.
Melani purchased a great number of fertility potions from Anorna--perhaps she actually liked Hralib and was trying to get pregnant by him and just didn't want Torianos to know. It's not as if greater women had not fallen under his spell. So why would she kill him?
Tabitha was watching Hralib the entire party, and that when she saw him slip out with Throgana, she followed.
Hralib told Sarina all about the arguments he'd been having with Pevifa lately, about her daughter, Fara, who she let fall into slavery when she found out that Fara tried to seduce her own step-father. As it turns out, Hralib thought it was unfair that the girl was made a slave on his account, and had been trying to free her, but Pevifa objected strenuously and feared that he was going to divorce her and replace her with her own daughter.
And it wasn't just with his one wife that Hralib was having trouble. Hralib was trying to get his wife Nobifa pregnant, but did not trust the fertility potions that she was taking, so he commanded one of his slaves to get them for him. Sarina doesn't know which one, but it seems like a good thing to find out.
Empyrean has never been a great warrior or anything--how would he have possibly overpowered Hralib?
Hralib suspected Lainath's slave girl, Akiva, of being a permit forger. Lainath is uber-sensitive about his reputation, and never wants to look soft on his slaves. Might he have killed Hralib to spare himself the humiliation?
Hralib never approved of the fact that Hashi's main way of making money was renting out his slavegirls at the brothel. Hralib always thought Hashi should do more raiding and land clearing. The tension between father and son could have caused a fatal confrontation.
Hralib told Hashi that if he didn't start achieving, he would make a Last Will and disinherit him. Whoever inherits Hralib's slaves and livestock will become one of the richest men in the Empire. That's a powerful motivation for Hashi to have offed his dad. (Hralib also confided to Sarina that he was going to tell Hralib this.)
Ruffialo told Anorna that Bivin "accidentally" told one of Hralib's secrets and that he has refused to get himself leeched for forgiveness. If Hralib found out, he would consider this a reason to kill Bivin. Maybe Bivin did it first. One wonders what the secret was?
Sarina knows that Anorna was angry with Hralib for selling Sarina to Ruffialo, because she's so insecure about her place. Maybe Anorna killed Hralib for endangering her precious status.
Round Two Conceal
Hralib was clearly trying to insult her when he sold her as a gladiatrix slave. Gladiators don't live long in the arena, and both Sarina and Hralib knew it.
The only consolation is that he sold her to Ruffialo, one of the nicer Shamibelian masters. And unbeknownst to Hralib, her new master is a convert to the Firan religion. Somehow, Aldrin got Ruffialo to see the light and to worship the pantheon. Ruffialo was constantly fearful that Hralib would find out.
Last night, Sarina and her new master decided to take advantage of the chaos, to go worship Srenna. She and Ruffialo snuck away from the "party" onto the land being cleared for Pevifa's new plantation--where the old Temple of Srenna lay abandoned. Together they built a big fire, and sacrificed hair to the flames.
While they were in the area, they saw Torianos, Aldrin, and Empyrean sneak into Unot's Temple and start a large fire of their own. Were they setting a trap for Hralib?
When Sarina was on her way back to the "party" she saw Dyanna dragging Melani off. Dyanna locked Melani in the back room of the Temple of Zin, and left her there to freeze to death. That's why Sarina ran straight away to find Hralib, who had retired to the Great Library for the night, and get his help.
When Hralib couldn't help her, Sarina stole his keyring, so that he could go free Melani and save her life.
Sarina was nearly killed serving in Zaridos' Predator division, during the invasion. She always felt as if the Shamibelians had to have somehow gotten ahold of their plans in order to defeat them so badly. Sarina doesn't like to point fingers, but she has always suspected it was Keeli who leaked their plans to the enemy.
Empyrean, Melani, Perdita, Sarina and Feathyr stole the last remaining totem pole before Lainath could turn it into firewood. They've stashed it in the catacombs, with the dead bodies. They intend to kidnap Caree the Slaver, hijack her ship, and smuggle it out, tonight! The totem pole's safety is far more important than human lives.
Round Two Props
Round Two Additional Goals
- Find out who is responsible for the Fall of Anarinuell, and make them pay. (Sarina suspects it was Keeli, but can't prove it. Yet.)
- Get Caree's trust so that it will be easier to kidnap her
- Find out how much space her boat will hold, for smugging the totem pole out
- Keep any of the Shamibelians from finding the totem pole and desecrating it
Sarina Round Three
Round Three Reveal
Sarina knows that she went to get Hralib so that he would let Melani out of the Temple of Zin where Dyanna had locked her in to freeze. But when she found Hralib, in the Great Library, at 1:30AM he was alone, laying face first in a slow burning pile of scrolls. He was already dead, and she took his keyring so that she could save Melani.
Sarina then ran back to the temple to let Melani out, when she realized that the key to Zin's temple was missing from the keyring. Whoever took it, probably used it to lay in wait for him at the Temple and drown him when they got the chance.
When Sarina realized keys were not going to do any good, she went to find Gilin to help pick the lock. When they got Melani out, Melani told them that she'd seen Throgana and Fara bury something behind the temple. So the three of them dug it up.
Tatomir's bloody sacrificial knife was amongst the stash of things that Throgana and Fara buried behind the Temple. Also, a bottle of Brizo's wine, opened.
Sarina knows that it was routine practice, when she served under Zaridos, for them to stray from the plan so that their division could get to the fighting first and take all the glory. Zaridos would typically send word to Prince Savaren late, so that his reinforcements never got there in time.
