Overview

This young man is definitely his father's son. The stamp of Vahlgellan's looks are so clear on Savaren's face that even those who know the former Ranivor only from coins may be able to pick out the Elianik features on this boy's countenance, not even the softness of his mother's coloring diminishing the resemblance to Vahgellan. He moves with a restless energy, striding with a high-headed air of entitlement. His features are often twisted into an irritable scowl, giving the impression of anger at the world around him.

An angry young man. He was rather prone to temper tantrums as a child if he did not get his way -- rare, given that he was a Prince. Savaren has a swagger to the way he moves, an awareness that he is better then those around him, known from birth he is privileged. As a child, he spoke to adults as if he were their equal -- or superior. A planner, Savaren had many plots and plans being built in his mind, how to reclaim the glory of the Elianik family and help the republic to recover to the power that it was under his grandfather. One to keep his own counsel, Savaren does not trust anyone but those who have shown their worth, but that does not stop him from attempting to use people in his path to further his own goals. He tends to view only those he knows well and trusts as actual people. Others he views more as objects to either help or hinder his progress, reluctant to make the effort to make a real connection with other unless he thinks he can trust the person not to betray him. To this end, Savaren can occasionally be charming when it comes to little girls or old ladies like the Acting Queen Lucretia or even the ancient ones like Lady Regent Nalia or his Aunt Selene. As a boy, his attempts at manipulation were often transparent and clumsy. As Savaren aged, his tactics for manipulation became an asset to him.

When Savaren entered the military, some of his spoiled and anger-prone tendencies were curbed. In the military, the young prince came to admire the Firan soldiers' spirit. He saw men and women stand together, saw them forget what separated them. He took pride, comfort, in people uniting for the sake of the Republic. When Savaren died in battle, at the hands of the Shamibelian masses, he died heroically -- in death, Savaren saved the reputation of his family; he gave himself for the Republic.

Family Life

Parents

A rather doting mother, at least that's what he remembers. People tell him that she preferred for him and Rislan to learn the bow, which frankly he thinks kinda floofy, but he practices enough to be able to say he can shoot a bow. The sword is his preferred weapon though, just like his father. He remembers going on a trip with his parents, but they didn't talk about it, he thinks whatever it was upset her though. Being taken back to Anarinuell without his parents made Savaren a sullen child, prone to sulking fits and arrogant outbursts.

Savaren really views his father as a hero, the man he wants to grow up and be. Savaren really doesn't know his father, but knows how he thinks his father was, and that's truth as far as he is concerned and don't dare anyone to say different. Savaren knows his father made mistakes, he intends on learning from them and doing what his father would have done with better information. That's always the way Savaren thinks, Vahlgellan would have done it right, if he'd known everything. So Savaren plans on knowing /everything/.

Siblings

Savaren's younger brother, 2 years, so close enough to be a persistent pain in his side. Savaren occasionally feels Rislan is too slick, too slippery. Rislan knows all the right things to say, when Savaren is floundering for how to state his opinion. Rislan is one of the few people, Savaren trusts completely. His brother can easily see the flaws in Savaren's plans and helped to correct them. They've been through a lot together and blood is thicker then water, after all.

The baby of the family, Savaren tolerates Avahlon and his little friend Rogik. Sometimes, Savaren feels a little sorry for Avahlon and if no one is looking, he'll give him a hug or let him sneak into bed and tell him stories of the heros. Savaren talks for Avahlon almost exclusively, and gives the impression that Avahlon is painfully shy. Avahlon caused major upset in the Elianik family years ago. He danced naked in the forum and had children do the same. The Viceroy sent Avahlon to the Oracle, to learn ..more manly traits.

Marriage

Teonia and Savaren were betrothed from an early age, but that did not seem to stop their fairy-tale adoration of each other. They seemed very much a happy, loving royal couple -- despite the rushed marriage.

Children

  • Ellia

Savaren sees his little girl in a different light. She is his first. The one to be like him. Someone to watch over her family. While in private he does love her, act like the goofy first time father and show her affection, in public they both walk around giving the trademark serious scowl to those around. She is his first, and his little warrior princess.

  • Salvian

Savaren's son is born. He has high hopes for his son, and sees many things in the future for him. Along with his sister Ellia he can see the two making the Republic strong and taking it further. As for his son, he sees his Heir, the one that will carry his line on and loves him dearly for it.

Accomplishments & Successes

  • Deputy Viceroy
  • Inspirational Leader

Soldiers who were in captivity with Prince Rislan during the war season of 39 A.U. cite that during the captivity, Prince Savaren exhibited exempulary leadership skills and a genuine caring about those with him. He gave a rather uplifting speech while a POW giving hope to those who were with him. Even after the rescue, he stayed on the front out of concern for his people, no matter class or clan.

  • General of the Firan Armies at the Taking of Ellish
  • Dying at Ellish, final battle

The story is that Prince Savaren lost his sword in the heat of battle. Disarmed, lost in the fog of war, he fought on. Bravely, Savaren pushed into the Shamibelian forces with nothing but his fists. Their weapons pierced his armor, blow after blow rained down on the Elianik, but still he fought until one Shamibelian sword caught him for a fatal blow. His knees buckled, falling there on the blood-soaked battlefields of Ellish, and Prince Savaren was dragged down the lines, to the healers, but it was too late. The prince had been fatally wounded.

He lived a few days in the camps, speaking hoarsely and whispering words of heroes. He retained a semblance of humor until the very end - always an Elianik, always an Elianik man. To those he trusted, he gave. And then, the death of a hero overtook Savaren. He died the first Elianik to give his life for Ellish.

His dying speech is in the logs section at the end of this page.

Scandals & Failures

  • Deputy Viceroy

While all the princes have a turn at this post, most of the Republic agreed that Savaren's term was lackluster and problematic. That he held it at all is a success, but they weren't overwhelmed by his term.

  • Rushed Marriage to Teonia

As a movement toward democracy seized the Republic, the people were clear: Pageantry and Royalty are important to the people--especially if the nobility wants to prevent the spread of Democracy. There needs to be something special, ethereal, ROYAL about the Elianik weddings. The fact that the Clan Council, and Taleo in particular, had allowed several royal weddings to go forth with hardly advertised courtships, short courtships, and nearly quiet weddings was a stain on the Elianik family and had reduced their prestige throughout the land. But even more importantly, it had reduced the power and prestige of all nobles, including the clan leaders.

After a respectable courtship, why was the wedding so rushed between Prince Savaren and Lady Teonia? Was the courtship less than properly respectful, perhaps? It is unseemly for royalty of the realm to get married in such a rushed state, without proper preparations and announcements. The Lord Viceroy, as the nominal head and steward of the Elianik family, wasn't even able to attend it!

  • His Parents

Eliana and Vahlgellan are not the Republic's most beloved couple. Vahlgellan died in prison at his own hand, by his own blade. A note was found beside his body in which he explained the force behind his actions (and) -- Lanesh, it's rumoured. Some said he was a puppet and a fool; others disbelieved and cried murder. Few knew the truth for certain, but all knew he had spared the Republic and the clan council one thing: the burden of his execution.

Eliana left the city before Vahlgellan's end and has not been seen or heard from in years.

  • A Ticanee Sharanir

In 37 A.U., the people of Anarinuell voiced their objections to Gemma's appointment as Savaren's Sharanir: "The people are livid that the Republic Sharanir positions seem to be going to Ticanee. It was bad enough when Lord Viceroy Taleo quite obviously favored his wife, the savage Taria Oshta, by choosing as his own personal Champion Sir Derik Leafchaser. But now he is foisting his love of slutty foreigners onto the princes of the realm. Dame Gemma Whitefeather? The Republic is outraged and demands that true Firans be the guardians of their royal family--not wild mercenary types that an unscrupulous royal could turn against the populace."

  • Sacred Path Massacre

When a group of protestors came to Torianos and Melani's wedding, Savaren was to show the Elianik family's support by Taleo. His Champion Gemma accompanied him to ensure his safety. He stood firmly and strongly beside Melani, against the protestors. In the ensuing chaos Savaren was seen fighting back against the riots with his fists and the pommel of his blade to subdue the rioters. Afterward some of the blame for the riot fell upon the Prince and his protector the Ticanee Sharanir.

Enemies

It was rumored that Savaren never really cared for Clan Leader Ojitar but the feud never came to a public head, so it remains just a rumor.

An Eagle and a floof, Savaren found Zaridos' childhood lack of seriousness infuriating. As Zaridos aged and matured (somewhat) the dislike lessened. It is said that part of the warming also came from them being Generals together.

Prince Lucas hero-worshipped Savaren as a child, and Savaren was glad for it! Savaren bossed Lucas around and Lucas did as he was told. It was a good relationship. Then as Lucas grew up he seemed to turn against Savaren, and Savaren began to distrust his cousin. Feeling that Lucas' ambition had exceeded any friendship, Savaren began to view Lucas as an enemy to be watched.

Allies

  • Rislan

Savaren's clan leader, cousin and friend, he used to think Torianos too Ticanee for his own good. But through training the fellow Elianik in the art of swordsmanship he came to trust the man and value his friendship.

At first his relationship to Taleena was a frosty one. Through Rislan he came to see Taleena as an advisor, one of the people he would turn to for advice along with his brother. He came to find her a good friend and found that first impressions were never final.

Savaren had always been the closest out of the three siblings (himself, Rislan and Avahlon) to their Rissik cousins, spending time with them to learn about that side of his heritage. Sharin and Savaren became close friends and allies, and it is rumored that Savaren asked a last favor of Sharin after Ellish.

Prince Savaren gave his life to take Ellish. Virtually the entire Republic would stand up in his name.

Dislikes

  • Politics

Politics was never Savaren's preferred field, disliking the inherently two-faced nature of the political world and how it made him wonder who his friends were. A blunt and straightforward man he preferred an honest fight to a battle of words and nuanced meaning. He spent his life trying to improve himself in this arena but was never comfortable with it.
