Bandar's Hills

Our first battle of this campaign was held at the location known as Bandar's Hills. I really can't say much about this battle except that it was my first, and it was nothing but chaos. I was ordered to fight as infantry, and Lord Adan was the swordsman whom I fought as spear to. It was, quite frankly, a rout - the Firan forces swept the battlefield, completely taking the Shamibelian forces by surprise, and we survived with minimal casualties. In fact, I daresay that for a first battle, I was lucky beyond belief, for the fight - while somewhat difficult - was no worse than the average battle royale to me. The hills may well have provided more difficulty than the goats which we faced there.

My initial response to battle was a gutwrenching sensation of dislocation. It was surreal, confusing, chaotic, disheartening. The sound of the approaching army was like rolling thunder, and it was a dark mass on the horizon. And as they marched, and we marched to meet them, the sound of swords striking shields to try to beat the rhythm of our march rang out in the air. Soon after, we were jogging, and then running to clash with the enemy. And clash it was, a resounding noise of scraping and screams, the dull pop of breaking bones, the iron-laden scent of blood tainting the air around us.

I do not like war. My immediate and visceral reaction was that I simply do not like war. And that feeling will remain with me for years, I do not doubt.
