Sharanir
From FiranMUX
Background
Sharanis are non-noble citizens who have been given a special title of 'Sharani' for women or 'Sharanir' for men. It is the Firan version of the Roman Equestrian class, or medieval knighthood. The Order of Sharani symbolizes a metaphoric river of sacrifice on the part of the citizen to the people of the Republic. Of course, the order is much older than the Republic itself. The title may be bestowed upon citizens by Clan Leaders or by Ranivor (or Viceroy). It is usually given to citizens who have performed works of heroics or served in such other capacity to have merited this extra measure of respect. The rewards are not all honorary either. Sharanis are given a plot of land and a horse along with their title. The title is non-hereditary. In return for the honor, Sharanis are expected to give continuing service to the people. This may be in terms of military expectation, but more frequently, Sharanis serve in the capacity of courtiers at the palace or at the homes of their clan leaders doing what needs to be done. It is not uncommon for the princes or young heirs to the thrones to surround themselves with these men and women of honor -- keeping them as companions, squires, champions, advisors, or ministers.
