So eager to learn : Jun 21, 2007
From FiranMUX
Laurelle makes her way into the store, smiling happily and feeling much better today than previous ones, as all her injuries are better. After being let in she smiles at you and says, "Good Morning Mer Garmon!" And gives you a little curtsey, gripping the bottom of her tunic and lifting it just a tiny bit, respectful, as she has been practising recently.
Garmon chuckles as he locks the door behind them, "Well, hello there, young Laurelle." He smiles and opens his arm and says, "I am glad to see you again. Its been a while, I suppose. How have you been?" He motions for her to follow him into the back room and says, "I think your tunic might be ready to finish up, so that you might be able to start working on the sandals if you want to help me with them that is."
Laurelle smiles, "Oh yes Mer, I would love to! I might soon have a mommy too!" She says, happily, "Not sure if I'm ready for it though, but I'd rather have one, before I'm too old to." She says, then holds her hand up for you to take, to lead her on, "Shall we go make pretty things, Mer?"
Garmon nods his head and takes the young girl's hand. He chuckles when she speaks of having a mommy and says, "Oh, and who might that be? I am sure that you will be quite taken care of by whoever it is that takes you into their home and family." He smiles at her and opens the door for her to go on in. "Excuse the mess in here, there is a variety of items I am working on right now." He winks and closes the door behind them.
"Mes Ramisa said her sister Barasa would love to have a little girl like me, but I'm not so sure. I want one, I've never had one, but what if my daddy finally returns?" She asks, still holding onto the hope that he lives, somewhere out there.
Garmon thinks about this, "I am sure that you will be okay. I have heard of Mes Ramisa and she is a nice woman. I know that any of her children would be most efficient in carrying for you. As far as your father coming home, well..if he comes back, I am sure he will be grateul to Mes Ramisa and her family for taking you into their home. And taking care of you while he has been away."
Laurelle thinks about that a while, looking around too, then, finally, says, "You know, I think he would, and I could go back with him too, but have a mommy until he does!" She says, wandering to the table, and regarding the items, "Lots and lots of stuff here, Mer, looks very pretty!"
Garmon smiles at her and says, "Well, come on over here and sit down." He pats a stool for her to sit at in front of the work table. He pulls out her tunic and says, "The dye has dried and has had time to set in. What do you think of that?" He chuckles and says, "I think that you should be able to try it on, if you would like." He tilts his head and smiles, "We want to make sure it fits and all."
Laurelle walks over and sits down, with a smile on her face still, "It looks very pretty! very very Pretty!" She looks at it, almost awestruck, wondering if wearing something like this will make her look like a noble, and therefore get her in trouble, bah, like she cares. "I get to try it on, today, too?"
Garmon chuckles and says, "Well, I think we need to work on some final touches, but yes, then we can have you try it on." He picks up the tunic and hands her a pair of scissors. "I wonder, do you think you can trim the long threads that have been stitched?" He arches his brow and says, "We want to make sure that we have a clean line and that there are no loose stitches or long threads sticking out."
Laurelle takes the pair of offered scissors and nods, "Just the threads right? As close down as possible or just short?" She asks, scissors being the dangerous things they are after all. She looks at her tunic, beaming wide, as it looks so darn pretty already.
Garmon smiles and guestures for her to go ahead, "We want to go as close as possible, though we need to make sure that you don't cut the fabric itself, and the overlay..that sheer part, you want to be careful, since it is more fragile than the linen itself." Garmon smiles, his eyes sparkling green and says, "You are quite the little learner there, young Mes. I am sure you will make a fine seamstress, if that is what you wish to persue of course."
Laurelle says nothing as she concentrates, and cuts three of the long threads off, so close to the fabric, that she almost cuts it three times. Her concentration is marked by visible chewing of the tongue, but she stops after three and smiles. "I am, I wanna make dresses and tunics and all sorts. And I have three years to learn, so plenty of time!" She says, with a smile.
Garmon nods and smiles, "Well, I am glad to hear that. I am sure that you will make a fine seamstress and if you would like, I would be happy to teach you. Then you will have a trade when you become an adult. But like my daughter, Vian, I will tell you that, you need to make sure that you make time to be a child, while you can." He winks and says, "Because when you become an adult, if you don't have fun and adventure, you will regret it later."
Laurelle nods, "Oh don't worry about that, I do nothing but be a kid all the time." She says, smiling, then returns to her tongue-chewing task of cutting threads, carefully, again, not speaking whilst she does, in case she messes up and ruins her pretty dress.
Garmon chuckles and says, "Well, I am glad to hear it. All too often, children want so badly to be adults." He watches her and nods as she cuts the threads. He resists the urge to chuckle again while watching her concentration. "I am under the impression that most children do not know what being an adult means and they wish so much to have their Ceremony that they miss out on the freedom of being a child."
Laurelle finishes another couple of threads and stops, "Oh, I wish I could wait til I was sixteen, or maybe eighteen, before I have my CoS.. Who wants to grow old anyway?" She says, looking over the tunic for more threads, carefully and methodically, counting them as she starts from the first one she cut earlier.
Watching, Laurelle with sparkling green eyes, Garmon laughs with amusement. "Well, now, being old isn't so bad, I don't think." He watches for a moment, as she looks over the tunic to make sure it is perfect and nods, "If you think on the details you will be bound to make beautiful clothing at all times."
Laurelle sees a little bit of fraying, on a stitched hem. Its well sewn, but some of the strands from the hem poke out under the stitching, so it isn't going to fray any further, though only minor as it is. She trims them off, to make it look neat, and smiles widely, "Little details, little details, theres lots little details, and if we all take time to notice them, then the world won't be quite the same!" She sings.
Garmon chuckles and says, "I think that you can try it on, whenever you think the threads are good." He stands and pulls a piece of wool cloth, black in color from out of the corner of the room. The wool cloth is suspended from the ceiling and hangs all the way to the floor. "You can try it on back there, or..you can wait until you get home. I don't mind either way." He chuckles and says, "I will let you finish the threads though and I will get the leather for your sandals."
Laurelle takes the tunic and gives it the once over again, and walks to one side of the room to change, "Okay, Mer Garmon!" She says, and proceeds to remove her Byrrus and current tunic, to try the new one on, too eager to go to some corner, and really quick anyway. She tugs the new tunic over the top of herself, and shuffles it down into place, and finally gives herself a little twirl, smiling widely.
Garmon chuckles. He does avert his eyes, seeing as she isn't his daughter and it would be inappropriate. Once she has changed into her new outfit he smiles, "I think you did a wonderful job on your tunic, young Mes." He winks and says, "I think you can walk out of here with it on, if you wish."
