Social Imperatives
From FiranMUX
Social Imperatives are a group of commands that may be used to aid role-playing by allowing a form of non-consensual social combat. These commands include convince, intimidate, seduce, manipulate, and beg. Just as you could non-consensually club another character using the combat system, you may also use social imperative commands to change the behavior or perspective of other characters with your social skills.
For example, you could use the intimidate command to convince another character to go away. You should never use these commands without first role-playing appropriately. This is a task resolution system only. Also, as with any system on Firan, in-character actions result in in-character reactions.
The following is a list of various social imperatives available on Firan, and some information about each one.
Intimidate
This command may be used by those players with the 'intimidation' skill. It will cost social points to perform and there is a chance that the event will be witnessed. There is also a chance that the tactic will backfire and seriously anger the target player. Players with a high 'courage' attribute will be _very_ difficult to intimidate successfully.
Persuade
This command may be used by those players with the 'persuasion' skill. It will cost social points to perform and there is a chance that it can backfire and upset the target player. Players who have a high 'willpower' attribute will be _very_ hard to successfully persuade.
This command should not be used to persuade another player of something that is not already somewhat credible or to do something that is not already somewhat reasonable.
Convince
This command may be used by those players who have the 'persuasion' skill to convince other players or NPC's that something is true. It will cost social points to perform and can backfire and upset the target player. Players who have a high 'willpower' attribute will be _very_ hard to successfully convince.
This command should not be used to convince another player of anything that is not absolutely _true_.
Deceive
This command may be used by those players who have the 'deception' skill to convince other players or NPC's that a small story or simple lie is true. It will cost social points to perform and there is a chance that it will be witnessed and can backfire and upset the target player. Players who have a high 'bs detection' skill will be _very_ hard to successfully deceive. This command is used in conjuction with the shrewdness and/or willpower attribute.
This command should not be used to deceive another player of an elaborate story or complex lie.
Con Command
This command may be used by those players who have the 'con' skill to convince other players or NPC's that a long story or complex set of lies is true. It will cost social points to perform and there is a chance that it will be witnessed and can backfire and upset the target player. Players who have a high 'bs detection' skill will be _very_ hard to successfully con. It is rolled in conjunction with the shrewdness attribute.
This command should only be used to con another player of an elaborate story or complex lie.
Interrogate
This command may be used by those players who have the 'interrogation' skill. By using this command, a player may force another player to answer his/her questions. This command has a chance of backfiring, and will cost social points. Players with strong willpower attributes or courage skills will be very hard to interrogate successfully.
Beg
Players with the begging skill may use this to persuade other players to do things that they want. This is a social imperative command and should be used in accordance with the rules for those. There is a social point cost associated with this command, and there is a small chance that you could start a rumor by begging other people for things. The higher your allure attribute is, the easier it will be to successfully beg other players for things. The higher the willpower attribute of your target, however, the more easily they will be able to resist your attempts.
Seduce
This command may be used by players who have the 'seduction' skill in order to get another character to perform the ritual of eesha with him/her. Players with high willpower attributes will be very difficult to successfully seduce.
There is a chance that this command will backfire or be witnessed and a there will be a cost of social points. You may NOT roleplay out these types of scenes with other players who are under the age of 18. If you don't know how old the other player is, don't roleplay the scene. Violation of this policy will result in expulsion from the mux.
Manipulate
This command allows those with the 'manipulation' skill to manipulate other players into doing what they want. It will cost social points to perform, has a chance of backfiring, and has a chance of being witnessed. Players with a high maturity attribute will be very hard to manipulate successfully. This is used in conjunction with the allure and/or maturity attribute.
Command
This command allows those with the 'leadership' skill to command other players into doing what they want. It will cost social points to perform, and has a chance of backfiring. Players with a high willpower attribute will be very hard to command successfully.
