Overview

The soldier vocation covers a number of different types of soldier across several military divisions including infantry, scouts, supply, healers, farriers, artillery and archers within the Firan militia. There are also two specialist vocations which apply to the military and these are the pilots and the guards. Whilst the firan's do have a strong navy this is not coded and as such players cannot be sailors.

A soldier can be of any rank between Ranivor(or Viceroy) and sentry. Soldiers begin at the rank of Sentry unless they have noble blood in which case they begin at the rank of centurion. It is important that all soldiers are aware of their chain of command (see military/list or clanmil on the game) and how it effects them. Failure to follow the military's rules and regulations is likely to result in punishments that can range from push ups to execution.

It is important that all soldiers are familiar with the combat system as they may be called upon to defend Anarinuell or the other cities (news cities on the game) at any time.

There is a rp'd War Season fought against the Shamibelian Military which happens each year. Whilst this is only rp'd out once a rl year it happens ic'ly every summer. War season usually takes place at the end of july/beginning of august and lasts for approximately two weeks.

Differences Between Republic and Clan Soldiers

The soldier vocation is valid for members of both the clan military and the Republic military. You can see more about those militias on the game, but know that they are, essentially, two different units.

A clan soldier is a semi-professional soldier who follows the orders of his/her clan generals. Information on the clan military heirachy can be found using the 'clanmil command' on the game. A clan soldier serves until he is discharged by an appropriate clan military officer.

A Republic soldier is a professional military man or woman who has been seconded to the republic forces by their clan military. As such they owe loyalty to both the republic military heirarchy (which can be seen by using the military/list command on the game) Republic soldiers serve for a period of two years before coming up for reenlistment at which point they may choose to unenlist. Whilst it is possible to unenlist without the intervention of an officer at this point it is not always socially advisable. Every year the Republic soldiers are involved in the War Season. A huge event which represents the efforts of the Firan forces to retake and hold the occupied city of Ellish.

How to become a Soldier

To become a soldier the potential recruit should approach someone of the rank Centurion (A Captain is needed if you are a member of the nobility) or above within the division of their choice. The Centurion (or above) will then arrange for the 2 year term of service to begin and advise you on your duties and responsibilities.

Before you can join the republic military you must enlist in the relevant clan military. Your rank must be the same in both clan and republic military.

There are two ways to participate in the Republic Military. You can either enlist seasonally and serve for a single war season before being released back to your pre-military life or enlist as a professional soldier. It is important to note that a professional soldier is expected to serve into their thirties unless something significant happens and there are social penalties for leaving whilst you are still a valuable asset to the military.

Equipment Needed for Soldiers

Clan soldiers should contact their clanmil supply officer to find out about equipment. Some clan militaries issue armor and other equipment as standard whilst others expect the soldier to provide this for themselves.

The fifth division is responsible for issuing kit for all republic military personelle. Have a look at republic kit for details on what equipment is appropriate for your character and how to go about requesting it.
