I was raised the daughter of a clan leader. I was the daughter of Nydiam the Black. I loved him as my father. I missed him and grieved for him when he died. I built the barge that carried him down the Uell and I was there, there with my IstaNydiam siblings, when that barge was set aflame and lowered into the river. I was an IstaNydiam then.
And I am an IstaNydiam now.
The truth is, I don't know how to be anything other than an IstaNydiam. I have grown up in the great halls of the IstaNydiam Palace. I have grown up beside my honored sister, Clan Leader Diamia, and my brothers, Lords Aeryk and Banian. We were a family. When Daddy died, we went and we commandeered a boat for him, all of us together. In death and in life, Daddy united us. But now we are divided, and Daddy is powerless to prevent it.
I will. I refuse this slap in the face -- to Daddy, and to the entire IstaNydiam family. As a child, I was silent. Now, as an adult, I can speak and I speak to tell you this:
