Summary

This speech was given by Lady Luna Corinala on Aug 14, 16 A.U.

It is famous because, though she was but a child, she felt the need to state her stake in the fate of the Cockatrice Clan since she had a blood claim to the throne.

Speech Text

Lady Luna Corinala exits her family's home in the Griffon District, Lord Ojitar, resplendent in a loincloth and copious amounts of dried mud and Mer Chinnon, more conservatively dressed, at either side of her. She doesn't move very far from the Mansion, or the guards that stand ready at the gates -- mostly because her father instructed her not to. She raises her voice to be heard, and then some:

"Today, we have seen a true travesty of political and familial justice done. Lady Proxy Ibania says she has not declared her father dead, and that she rules the Cockatrice Clan in everything but name. But I ask you, how clear is her claim to that throne? My own mother, Lady Eve, was given the Eagle Clan to rule when her /true/ claim, the Cockatrice Throne, had been taken from her by Lord Bannos."

Luna smiles very briefly before continuing, "By rights, the Cockatrice Clan should have been my mother's. And by those same rights, I could very well claim the Cockatrice Throne for myself...with an appointed Regent of course, until I came of age to rule it properly. I have the blood right, in fact, to rule the Cockatrice Clan, where some--in fact, many, believe that Lady Proxy Ibania does not."

"But ought I to issue this claim? Ought I to sully the decision of Ranivor Elianos, by retaking what many feel--what my mother surely felt--is my birthright? I do not. Any child can claim a throne, you see. Any child with blood lines that tie them to that throne. But a lesson that my father has taught me...one that I thought I had understood when given...rings more truly to me now than ever. He taught me that it is not who your parents are that make you a good leader. It is how you handle yourself, the name you make for yourself by your actions that make you a good leader. It is honoring and respecting the wishes of those who entrust all that they are with you."

Luna takes a breath and clears her throat. All this shouting is hard on one so small, "And so I put to you: if a child can make a claim upon a throne that by blood rights is hers to have, but does not... what, then, is the worth of Lady Proxy Ibania's claim to her father's throne?"

Lady Luna clears her throat once more and holds her head high. "I've changed my mind. As I have a rightful claim to the Cockatrice Throne, I am hereby making it. I will name a Regent later, after I've had a proper dinner."
