Summary

This speech was given on August 10, 26 A.U. by Lady Proxy Ibania Istabannos.

It was given three days before the equally famous It was Just a Test speech. Both speeches are famous because they touched off the Cockatrice Civil War which ultimately lost the Clan two of its cities (Nelabam and Sarkaran) and resulted in Nydiam becoming clan leader.

Speech Text

"I hereby declare myself Cockatrice Clan Leader. My father has been absent for five years. I have held the medallion for over four. I do not believe he is dead. He is a hero, he is revered, but he is not here, and he is not leading the Cockatrice Clan. He will ALWAYS be a hero. He will always be here in our hearts. Just because it is time to move on, does not mean we then throw our memories in the dirt. My father set an example for us all to follow. He is a hero."

Ibania takes a look round, "I think, from the previous speeches, there is a need to explain why. It is not, as has been averred, a need for power. I have that. I control the clan's military, the clan's funds, the clan's taxes, the clan's people. I care for them. Their children are my children, their wants are my wants, their pain is my pain. I hear when someone in my clan is happy, and I rejoice. I hear when someone is lonely, and I suffer with them. I hear when someone hurts, and I do my very best to make it better."

And my priority, is the future. I revere the past. I remember it. I try to learn lessons from it. But the future does not take care of itself. My father expected to be gone for two months. Not two years. Not five years. The clan's future must be provided for, by having heirs. I have children who will rule after me. They carry the blood of heroes, and the blood of history."

She looks around, "As for responding to Clan Leader Jalil, and Clan Leader Taria's comments, I will not bring our squabbles public, but deal with them where they ought to be dealt. At the Council Table."
