This speech came a day or so after his speech announcing the pre-dawn sting that rounded up virtually all of the conspirators who had been involved in the Antonian Apostasy. The speech on the investigation is even more famous than the announcement of the dawn raids because it actually details much of the specifics of the conspiracy and both the people involved and those effected.

Speech Text

People of the Republic - you have heard judgments made recently that might seem both sudden and surprising. You have no doubt made note of the closed Clan Council sessions and wondered what required such guarded discussion. These words may not be pleasant, but must be said to remind us all how closely we must guard ourselves and remember our justified fear that darkness still lurks within our walls as well as outside of them. It is my duty as your Viceroy, and that of your Clan Leaders, to now make public a dark situation that threatened to shake the strength of your Republic - a situation many have worked months to thwart and destroy, with success.

Antonius Marcus and Nathim Ista Ankur initiated a large conspiracy, recruiting members and claiming to be working with the Regime. Their intentions was distract the Guards with a matter outside the city, take control of the Palace District, storm the palace, and place Prince Avahlon on the throne by force killing any Clan Leader or official that would get in their way. This conspiracy is not unlike the one Prince Vahlgellan put upon the Republic during Zeysani's war, admitting before taking his own life that it was the Regime who promised him power in return for helping them achieve their goals.

These two men will be executed for the treason they tried to set upon your Republic. You have already heard the judgment regarding Mes Megaera, as well as that of the Chimera Clan against members of the Rissik family. Others involved will also be executed or tried, though we ask your patience. Several citizens unwisely tangled themselves into this conspiracy, which we must now untangle and serve justice as dictated by law.

Months of investigations made by both public and private Republic agents - some of whom have already been thanked publicly by their Clan Leaders, others who will be thanked later - made the disarming and dissolution of this conspiracy possible. It is now the responsibility of your Viceroy and Clan Council to see their efforts carried forth and justice served. Let this be a humbling lesson to all who think to shake the foundation on which our Republic is built: treachery will be discovered and justly punished.

The Clan Council has authorized the Republic to run all the trials of commoner citizens involved in this plot even if the charge is treason. This is a temporary power granted under the unanimous support of the Clan Council for this exceptional case, and each Clan Leader reserved the right to have a person placed on trial by the Clan Council at their request.
