System Administration/Shutting Down the Server

The easiest way to shut down the server is to log into your Wizard account on the game itself and type @shutdown. This will shut the game down using the normal process, writing out the database to a flatfile before it finishes.

When you shut down the game for any reason, be sure to first @wall to let people know they can hang out on OGR MUSH until the game comes back up. Give players OGR's host address and IP address in the @wall message.

Hang out on OGR to answer questions about the game's status.

If the game will be down for more than a couple hours, send a broadcast email to firan@yahoogroups.com and firan-admin@yahoogroups.com to let players and staff know what is going on. If you have time and expect the game to be down for a long time, also post to the firan LiveJournal community and other places.
