T'rages
From FiranMUX

Overview
T'rages is a rabies-like disease that the Firans first encountered after the Liberation of Ellish on their first tour of duty to subdue the city they won.
Symptoms
Initial symptoms are often increased anger and paranoia or thirst. Sometimes the two present together, and sometimes one before the other.
The anger and paranoia then increases over the period of the illness, as does the thirst. Several days after infection, the afflicted are completely unable to swallow liquids, choking on them and spitting them back up.
In the last stages of the illness, they become irrational and violent, with occasional hallucinations.
Death comes with violent rages, convulsions, and a frothing of blood.
Transmission
The most common carriers of t'rages appear to be animals, particularly those kept in crowded conditions or exposed to famine. However, human-to-human transmission is also possible and common. As far as the Firans have been able to determine, t'rages spreads through close contact, and particularly through biting, but the precise mechanism has yet to be discovered and/or communicated to healers by those investigating the disease.
Possible Cure
After finding and rescuing a number of orphans from within the city of Ellish there seems to be a cure. It was used upon two of the sick orphans and they have since recovered. It requires mixing the blood of someone sick with the blood of someone who seems to be immune, usually this is done by cutting ones arm and the arm of the sick person and then binding the wounds together. As of yet there is no clear way of knowing who is immune or why, though there are likely theories.
- Within a few hours, they will be able to drink.
- A few more hours and the persons personality begins to return
- Lastly the fever breaks
After staying bound to the infected adults for eight hours and then bandaging them, they show signs of improvement. But only for a few hours and then they begin to show signs of the disease again. Perhaps eight hours is not enough, or the process must be repeated as it was done twice for four hour times periods to entact a total cure upon the children.
A period of 30 hours with a donor of an older noble house (Teranzik, Firgalik, IstaBarun, Corinala, Didoron, and Ista Aldrik) showed a slow but steady improvement in the adult Firan patients. The more pure the bloodline of the donor, the quicker the cure. Experimentation into the generation of the noble proves inconclusive. For some unknown reason, Hydran nales are unable to donate and are slow to receive any cures.
