TANSEL COTTONMOUTH

Tansel Cottonmouth was one of the last of his family to be a part of the Snake Tribe within the Ticanee Clan, and much like his father Saltuk, Tansel was a staunch believer in Ticanee traditions. Particularly in his younger years, Tansel eschewed the ways of the Firans and generally mocked those among his fellows who he felt were trying too hard to assimilate, and this brought him into friction with Ticanee and Firans alike, but he was young and generally received a severe warning, but nothing else.

This changed, however, when Tansel began to speak out against his sister-in- law, the Ticanee proxy Lady Xenobia. Due to his treasonous words, Xenobia banished Tansel from all Firan lands, with the consent of the Ranivor. During his time in alpine exile, Tansel became even more devoted to totemic worship.

After Tansel was pardoned by the Oshta, a band of Ticanee was sent out to find their exiled brother, and when they found him, they discovered the lost Bobcat Tribe that had taken him in. Tansel returned to Anarinuell and eventually took Jeronika Jaffus as his wife. They had one son together. After Jeronika's disappearance (see 'news Jeronika'), Tansel married his love from exile, Lutika Swiftpaw (a member of the Bobcat tribe that came to Anarinuell with them). They tried to follow the old traditions of their clan and had one child together, the second stillborn after his death. Unexpectedly, during the floods of 36 AU, Tansel was ambushed and killed by a band of brigands. Two of Tansel's step-sons, Apartes and Timor (children of Lutika Swiftpaw and Derik Leafchaser), were murdered as well, and several other children, Isan, Asher, and his adopted daughter Shahalia, were found soon after.

Tansel will be most remembered, aside from his tragic death, for his devotion to the totems and ancient Ticanee traditions. He was once involved in a massive project to track which Ticanee were members of what tribes, and referred to Ticanee with mixed-blood as Firans.
