[Public] Professor Amber says, "Hi! I'm Amber, and I am your professor today. Today we are discussing what we are calling the Grold Dragons, in order to cover up my alphabetical booboo. Such a poor, lonely, misunderstood clan."
[Public] Adan says, "Are you sure those aren't the Hydra clan notes? :)"
[Public] Clementina says, "This is going to be the hardest part about playing a non griffon. Not hating the dringles."
[Public] Demuria says, "Well, some GDs dislike other GDs. <.<"
[Public] Professor Amber says, "I played one Gold Dragon. It was Demuria, years ago. Anyway..."
[Public] Demuria snickers.
[Public] Professor Amber says, "The GDs, by nature, tend to breed a lot of resentment in other clans. First of all, they're conquerors by nature. They like to think whatever they /can/ take, they /should/. They're a marital, war-like clan. They believe in strength of arms, and the glory of battle. Their taste also tends to be on the garish side -- they like throwing on as much gold and jewels as they can. If they have it, why not flaunt it?"
[Public] Zaruell hmms? "Floofy?
[Public] Clementina says, "Why not Flaunt it?"
[Public] Professor Amber says, "Garish, not floofy. Manly overdone!"
[Public] Mahir says, "So they're the Eagles of the Monotheistic world?"
[Public] Professor Amber says, "They are a very proud clan, and very bound to their own code of honour. This is one of the (many) reasons they don't get along with the Bears -- the Bears' tendency to spy and sneak seems dishonourable to them. They're, in their own way, a very traditional clan -- none of this new-fangled democracy and liberal nonsense for them!"
[Public] Audere est facere Hufimo says, "Eagles like to look good, GDs do it as a display of wealth, power and superiority."
[Public] Professor Amber says, "Exactly, Humifo."
[Public] Professor Amber says, "Er. Hufimo."
[Public] Zaruell has wondered why yapra has on loads of jewelry.
[Public] Rabianos has joined this channel.
[Public] Professor Amber says, "One thing that may need clarification is their attitude toward women. Yes, the GDs are a very male chauvinist clan. But they don't necessarily look down at women. Instead they place women on a pedestal. They see women as beautiful, fragile flowers, who deserve all the good things in life, and shouldn't be forced to do anything harsh and demeaning. They shouldn't have to do hard labour or fight, because that's hard and ugly, and thus it's man's work. Yes, GD men will beat their wives, but they see it as a 'for their own good' thing. And although a GD woman can't really wield any public power -- politics is too ugly for women! -- because of the nature of their gender politics, a clever GD woman can work herself into wielding tremendous power behind the scenes."
[Public] Adan says, "We've discussed this from time to time. What about Gold Dragon women who handle womanly tasks, like Families, Orphans, that sort of thing?"
[Public] Audere est facere Hufimo says, "Wives and daughters are a great way to display wealth, Zaruell. Since... obviously the wealth is yours, not from them. Otherwise that would be bad. Heh."
[Public] Mahir says, "So it wouldn't be out of character for a group of Gold Dragon women to get together and support a delegate, to use him as their mouthpiece, as it were?"
[Public] Professor Amber says, "That's acceptable. There are certain things that are seen as women's work. In a way, it's very Victorian -- woman as the 'ministering angel,' beautiful and fragile, but because of her inherent womanly virtue is more suited than a man to tasks involving nurturing."
[Public] Professor Amber says, "Only if they're doing it quietly, Mahir."
[Public] Professor Amber says, "GD women aren't going to get out there and make political speeches -- unless they're about babies and womanly things, with which they can get away with."
[Public] Tyrsun happily appointed another female as a minister to head up orphans and things like that. The men are too busy flaunting their wealth and being manly. :]
[Public] Professor Amber says, "Besides, can you imagine a manly GD man looking after orphans? :)"
[Public] Ojitar says, "No."
[Public] Tyrsun says, "Exactly."
[Public] Adan says, "Well. Ojitar, maybe. :)"
[Public] Tia says, "Ye.. oh."
[Public] Tia says, "NO!"
[Public] Tyrsun would probably drop them, or something.
[Public] Ojitar thumps Adan soundly.
[Public] Adan goes back to his corner.
[Public] Arika eyes Ojitar, "Don't thumb him too hard." =)
[Public] Ojitar says, "Thumb? This is going in a direction I didn't forsee. Anyway - Gold Dragons! *cough*"
[Public] Once was lost, now was Kerasha says, "I could see some GD's doing it."
[Public] Arika has to stop trying to be cool.
[Public] Professor Amber says, "One thing to keep in mind is that although they're both the monotheist clans, Hydras and GDs are actually quite different in many ways. So try not to confuse them. :)"
[Public] Laurelia has joined this channel.
[Public] Mahir recalls quite a time ago how much power the True Temple wielded among the Gold Dragons, in setting up inquisitions and whatnot - has that just slipped off the grid, or has the religion been weakened by the present leadership of the clan?
[Public] Adan says, "I think it's just that most monotheist priests on the grid right now are Hydran, not Gold Dragon."
[Public] Audere est facere Hufimo says, "The problem is that most of the GD ones are rostered"
[Public] Professor Amber thinks it's more a function of PCs and OOC circumstances than any shift among the NPCs.
[Public] Professor Amber says, "Like the fact we don't have a Rasmus. :)"
[Public] Adan says, "Pretty much. The political environment was no different from when I did Rasmus and now."
[Public] Zaruell says, "I think, Jalil tends to let his people go to other clans, if they think wrongly."
[Public] Adan says, "If anything, given some recent emits, a well-played Gold Dragon priest might find /more/ support from the populace than I did in my time."
[Public] Zaruell says, "instead of ordering a inquisit."
[Public] Mahir says, "Or marry them.."
[Public] Adan says, "Hint! Hint!"
[Public] Galanthis has joined this channel.
[Public] Professor Amber says, "Now, speaking of Jalil, Jalil is a problematic clan leader for the GDs for many reasons, and they've never been entirely happy with him. Anyone feel capable of giving a short summary as to why that is?"
[Public] Clementina says, "He's a Griffion pilot."
[Public] Adan says, "And was polytheist when he joined the Clan."
[Public] Mahir says, "What do the NPC peeps think about having separate monotheistic temples? Especially considering the recent strike on the Hydra temple?"
[Public] Mahir says, "Not to mention a bastard."
[Public] Audere est facere Hufimo says, "he is a GD when he does well, he is griffon when he does something wrong. heh."
[Public] Ojitar says, "Yes, but he's quite improved now. *shifty-eye*"
[Public] Clementina says, "He gave up the Empire too, as well as the duel monarchy."
[Public] Professor Amber says, "Exactly. He's the son of GD CL Judano and Griffon CL Tazi, and, depending on which version you chose to believe, is a bastard or they were secretly married. He grew up a Griffon, apparently a devout Uffian, and his true parentage was not revealed until Judano's death, when he was made GD CL. He has fought an insane number of civil wars to keep his medallion, and so far has managed to remain on top."
[Public] Adan says, "So far! (Dun-dun-dun)."
[Public] Zaruell says, "he still a uffian?"
[Public] Adan says, "That's pretty much for Jalil to know, Zaruell."
[Public] Adan says, "He publicly supports and espouses monotheism, however."
[Public] Audere est facere Hufimo thinks that the GD like to believe that he is mono while secretly suspecting that he isn't.
[Public] Professor Amber says, "He publicly supports monotheism, yes, but he's never come out and said 'I believe X.' So I think Hufimo is on the right track."
[Public] Adan says, "I'm not sure anyone answered your question about the two temples, Mahir."
[Public] Adan can't answer directly, but I can give a bit of history.
[Public] Professor Amber says, "They're still the same organization. Just two different places to worship."
[Public] Ojitar says, "Hydrans who had their district locked down couldn't go pray. I think that has something to do with it, if my memory isn't completely shot."
[Public] Professor Amber says, "In general, I don't really see it as contraversial."
[Public] Adan says, "In the past, there was only one True Temple in the city -- the Gold Dragon. Javier approaches Rasmus, the treasurer of the Light of Zutiv fund at the time, and asks to construct a temple in the Hydran district on the ruins of an old Temple there."
[Public] Adan says, "The Temple did so."
[Public] Zaruell says, "i"
[Public] Adan says, "This was, actually, before Hydrans were recalled from Arinzi."
[Public] Zaruell says, "Whos the head of the entire Mono Zutiv temples?"
[Public] Adan says, "But, after they were, it became obviously more useful to the Hydrans."
[Public] Ojitar says, "Javier."
[Public] Adan says, "Javier, Zaruell. holy/list javier"
[Public] Professor Amber says, "holy/list is your friend. :
)" [Public] Adan says, "Javier is, to be somewhat long winded, High Priest of the True Temple and High Inquisitor of the Hydra Clan. Rasmus is merely High Inquisitor of the Gold Dragon Clan."
[Public] Professor Amber says, "Is there anything about the G(r)old Dragons that anyone is struggling with thematically? Or anything about their recent history you'd like clarified?"
[Public] Adan says, "Would it be fair to say, Amber, that the Gold Dragon theology matches its righteousness? Zutiv is on the side of the strong and the righteous?"
[Public] Mahir says, "Was Scirlut a win or a loss, in the view of the Gold Dragons? (And I wish that social adjustments were echoed onto the Invision board.)"
[Public] Professor Amber thinks that's a fair assessment, Adan.
[Public] Tia says, "If I remember the emits/adjusts correctly, it was a loss."
[Public] Professor Amber says, "Well, the GDs used to have all of Scirlut. They don't any more. They're still mad."
[Public] Fiero says, "What's their view on their Hydran Brethern and the new warrior code?"
[Public] Ojitar says, "Do they have any 'white man's burden' tendencies, or is their conquering more of a 'we are the best, STFU' sort of conquering?"
[Public] Professor Amber says, "It's more the 'we are the best, STFU,' I'd think. The 'white man's burden' viewpoint is more Bear."
[Public] Tyrsun thinks it goes back to the view of 'it's there, we want it, so it's ours.'
[Public] Professor Amber says, "The GDs like to see the Hydrans being manly warriors. They don't understand all the restrictions, though."
[Public] Tia says, "Would the women have any sort of bleeding-heart view on the part of the losers? IE, if (say) Clan X had been conquered by the GDs, would a woman set up relief for the newly conquered peoples?"
[Public] Mahir says, "Is there any jealously of the Hydran Warrior Code?"
[Public] Arik says, "In terms of recent history. What's the state of the Gold Dragon Military? I mean traditionally they're uber military. But Pc-wise aside from Jalil and Zafir I couldn't name many recent 'heroes' of note. In the young generation you've got Judanus and Ojitar. But they were parcelled off if you look at their clanmil the highest rank is Commander. Is this a PC-only phenomenon or are they in a state of...well decay?"
[Public] Fiero says, "Is that likely to cause stress in relations? I know some of the mono files suggests that there could be several branches of Monotheism, and I have always been curious if the Gold Dragons resent a Hydan HP, and want their own branch, or if they fear it will strain the only steadfast ally they have"
[Public] Ojitar says, "What's the deal with the Junik family, anyway? :)"
[Public] Audere est facere Hufimo says, "The Hydran Warrior Code is just an attempt to become as good and manly as the GD but of course, that is not possible. No one can be better than GD. Rawr. Hehe."
[Public] Professor Amber says, "The GDs aren't jealous of the Warrior Code. They're the best, so it takes a lot for them to be jealous of anything. :)"
[Public] Adan says, "Why do Gold Dragons not let their men whore?"
[Public] Fiero says, "GD men whore, I believe."
[Public] Ojitar says, "It's not as severe a prohibition as the Hydra."
[Public] Ojitar says, "We are not /supposed/ to, but we're expected to all the same."
[Public] Adan says, "It's illegal, tho. Technically."
[Public] Clementina says, "they whore, but it's against the rules"
[Public] Adan says, "Why the law?"
[Public] Tyrsun says, "It's sort of a, we know you'll do it, but don't talk about it thing."
[Public] Alicia Keys as Auria says, "It's one of those "people do it, but if they do it discreetly, we pretend it doesn't" situations, right?"
[Public] Professor Amber nods to Tyrsun. It also is at odds with the GD view of womanhood.
[Public] Audere est facere Hufimo says, "Because the forbidden is always more fun..."
[Public] Professor Amber says, "As for the military situation, in recent history there hasn't been an actual decay of GD military might, but the contributions to the Republic military from the Bear and Cockatrice have jumped, which makes the GDs a little uneasy. And a lot of GD men of prominence have been executed under Jalil -- which is often the price of remaining CL when your clan isn't completely behind you."
[Public] Mahir says, "Is the back room at the Blackwater more 'speak-easy' type setup, where a daring inquisitor could raid, or just acceptable since it's a private club?"
[Public] Fiero says, "They've had quite a few civil wars"
[Public] Professor Amber says, "Jalil owns the Blackwater, I think. Either that, or the Elianks. One of them gave it to the others."
[Public] Tia says, "Would the women have any sort of bleeding-heart view on the part of the losers? IE, if (say) Clan X had been conquered by the GDs, would a woman set up relief for the newly conquered peoples? (to bring us back!)"
[Public] Tyrsun says, "The Blackwater is owned by powerful folks. I don't think the private areas would be raided without a very good reason."
[Public] Fiero says, "Vahlgellan owns it, techincally. Or his estate at least"
[Public] Professor Amber nods to Tyrsun.
[Public] Fiero says, "At least according to my shop records"
[Public] Professor Amber highly doubts that GD women openly showing sympathy for conquered people would go over well. That sort of implies the GDs did something wrong in conquering them.
[Public] Audere est facere Hufimo says, "Mahir, everybody does it, everybody knows it, they just don't talk about it. I think Jalil took power of it after Vahlgellan tried to make some odd named clan and killed himself..."
[Public] Professor Amber says, "And, of course, the GDs are never wrong. Right? :)"
[Public] Tia says, "Rock on. Thank you. ;)"
[Public] Tyrsun says, "Scandalous behavior on the part of the nobility would not cause a raid. That's just a reality. :)"
[Public] Tia says, "(Kraken, Hufimo)"
[Public] Professor Amber says, "Doing something for those suffering from a conflict might be different, but singling out the conquered people not so good."
[Public] Professor Amber says, "And what about the Juniks, Ojitar? :)"
[Public] Professor Amber says, "Quite honestly, if a prominent GD nobleman wasn't NPing and whoring, the GDs would probably wonder if there was something wrong with him. ;)"
[Public] Tia says, "Well, actually? can you clarify, please? "suffering from a conflict" but not helping the people we just took over?"
[Public] Tyrsun says, "If I'm not mistaken, my family (the Firgaliks) actually has a reputation for womanizing. :)"
[Public] Professor Amber says, "They do, Tyrsun. And Jalil is /infamous/ for it."
[Public] Ojitar thinks it'd be neat to talk about them, since they have a rather complicated situation. What with two sides of the family with different bloods and all.
[Public] Professor Amber says, "Widows and orphans of soldiers, Tia. (Ie, apparently GDs.)"
[Public] Tia says, "Oh, I see! of course. :) Thanks."
[Public] Tyrsun nods to Amber, "Well, we're the royal family. I suppose it's part of the gig!"
[Public] Ojitar says, "It's hardly our fault. It's what the people expect of us. Tragic figures, really."
[Public] Tyrsun says, "Yes. We carry a terrible burden."
[Public] Tia covers her ears! La!
[Public] Tyrsun says, "But we do so for the sake of the people."
[Public] Professor Amber says, "The Juniks were an old-blood GD noble family. Then the head of the family, Lord Azarus, was apparently punished by Zutiv (see news junik family2 for the specifics), so Judano stripped him of the head of the household. He decided to give the position as Junik HoH to Zafir, a commoner who had recently attained noble status, who was no blood relation. Hence we get the current Juniks, part old blood and part jumped-up commoner."
[Public] Audere est facere Hufimo says, "Jalil is -infamous- for it but also because of the rumor of him liking 'challenges', right?"
[Public] Professor Amber says, "Well. He doesn't seem to like to play it safe, in many ways."
[Public] Zaruell waves, as one of the said commoners.. "Head of the commoner's house, don'tcha know."
[Public] Ojitar says, "Yeah, but you're not a Junik!"
[Public] Ojitar says, "You lack the 'jumped-up' part of commoner, I guess. :)"
[Public] Mahir says, "When was the last Gold Dragon duel?"
[Public] Professor Amber says, "I don't know off the top of my head, Mahir."
[Public] Tyrsun says, "Tell us a bit about the current condition of the Gold Dragon clan, Amber. :)"
[Public] Professor Amber says, "Terrorist level is amber! :)"
[Public] Professor Amber says, "Er. What do you want to know?"
[Public] Ojitar says, "Do the Gold Dragons want the HP staff back, or are they indifferent?"
[Public] Professor Amber says, "They're not really a candidate for it, as Jalil's not a priest."
[Public] Tyrsun says, "The current concerns of the citizens, how well they're doing economically and socially, etc."
[Public] Professor Amber says, "Obviously, if they could get it, they'd want it, but I don't think it's a burning concern for them."
[Public] Ojitar nods. That's more what I was getting at.
[Public] Michael Wincott as Nysem says, "Emil is ready to up to priesthood if he ever becomes a character again."
[Public] Professor Amber says, "The GDs are very unhappy at the moment. They're not in civil war, but they're mightily pissed at Jalil."
[Public] Once was lost, now was Kerasha says, "Hey Amber, what are the GD's view on clans like the Ticanee?"
[Public] Professor Amber says, "Tatoo'd savages!"
[Public] Professor Amber says, "Look at what they let their women run around in!"
[Public] Do Not Upset Mr. Bigglesworth Ronti says, "What's wrong with that?"
[Public] Tyrsun grins, "I'm not surprised at that. I remember getting a social hit a couple of months ago because Jalil didn't die."
[Public] Ojitar laughs.
[Public] Once was lost, now was Kerasha says, "I'm not Tatooed. Yet. :P"
[Public] Professor Amber nods at Tyrsun. They're mad at him for a lot of reasons. Scirlut was the biggest, of course. They were unhappy at him for dumping Emeelya, good Gold Dragon woman that she was. Kameelya was acceptable, but they're not convinced by the poisoning thing. Etc.
[Public] Professor Amber says, "Is. Emeelya's not dead!"
[Public] Michael Wincott as Nysem says, ""Yes but Ojitar and his brother are both half Tic aren't they?"
[Public] Ojitar says, "Don't bring that up! It's a touchy subject."
[Public] Professor Amber says, "They're quarter Ticanee. /Half/ Griffon, which is almost worse."
[Public] Tia says, "Tsk. Ojitar."
[Public] Professor Amber says, "Ojitar has had a lot of obstacles in his way."
[Public] Ojitar says, "Which is why I married good clean Tia."
[Public] Tyrsun says, "Poor Ojitar."
[Public] Professor Amber says, "(Alleged granddaughter of a poly god. :)"
[Public] Ojitar eyes Amber.
[Public] Tia says, "(omigosh, don't taint me!)"
[Public] Professor Amber beams.
[Public] Tyrsun says, "Not that I can talk. My mother is crazy. :)"
[Public] Ojitar says, "Crazy is an understatement."
[Public] Ojitar :)
[Public] Tyrsun says, "Father was good, though! He died a hero."
[Public] Ojitar says, "Were GDs always, throughout their history, so phallocentric?"
[Public] Michael Wincott as Nysem does some encouragement, remember to @roster/vote Emil !
[Public] Ojitar says, "(I just wanted to type phallocentric)"
[Public] Professor Amber says, "A lot of Firan early history has been lost. That said, my impression is they always have been to some extent. Monotheism may have exaggerated it, though."
[Public] Professor Amber is fairly certain they do not have a secret feminist past.
[Public] Adan says, "Why were the Gold Dragons so quick to accept monotheism? What were they before that?"
[Public] Mahir says, "Do the Gold Dragons have a viewpoint of every other clan (except the Hydras) being run by women?"
[Public] Michael Wincott as Nysem says, "their leaders are direct descendants of Unot ? right?"
[Public] Ojitar says, "According to news house of Firgarus we are!"
[Public] Professor Amber thinks monotheism suits the GD cultural viewpoint very well, especially as the Firgaliks claim descent from Zutiv. In fact, depending on your viewpoint on the monotheism thing, Firgalas may have tailored monotheism to suit the Gds.
[Public] Michael Wincott as Nysem says, "and Uot is the son of Zutiv, eergo, Zutiv is the one TRUE god."
[Public] Do Not Upset Mr. Bigglesworth Ronti says, "Unot was a mortal"
[Public] Professor Amber nods. The Firgaliks claim descent from Zutiv through the mortal Unot. And to the GDs, bloodlines are /very/ important.
[Public] Professor Amber says, "GDs probably aren't too impressed by all the female CLs at the moment -- they expect it from the Bears, but hope other clans to be more sensible -- but they probably optimistically think it makes other clans weaker and more ripe for conquering."
[Public] Tyrsun says, "According to Yvette's handy lineage website, Firgalik, Tyrsun`s great great great great great great great great great great grandfather is God, Unot. How's that for a distant relation? :)"
[Public] Once was lost, now was Kerasha blinks.
[Public] Michael Wincott as Nysem says, "but admittely with all the marriages and children, All of Jalil's children can find some kind of relation with every fully ennobled family in Anarinuell I think."
[Public] Ojitar says, "Unot God? Is that his full name? :)"
[Public] Do Not Upset Mr. Bigglesworth Ronti says, "If you are a mono, Unot is not a god. He's a demi-god at most."
[Public] Clementina says, "Yes it is."
[Public] Ojitar says, "He's an aspect of Zutiv. Small minds need to see Divinity in shards. Clearly."
[Public] Do Not Upset Mr. Bigglesworth Ronti says, "Actually, Ojitar. Unot was a living mortal."
[Public] Ojitar says, "Don't mess with my theology, man!"
[Public] Adan says, "There are some fine scrolls about this very debate."
[Public] Professor Amber says, "It's a matter of debate in monotheism. They don't see Unot as a full god, but they believe he existed. Whether he was just a mortal, is a demi-god, or an aspect of Zutiv is an IC debate."
[Public] Do Not Upset Mr. Bigglesworth Ronti says, "Its only us crazy polys who think some goddess named Eesha pleaded to Zutiv to spare him. ;)"
[Public] Arik says, "Wouldn't he be kinda christ-like? The whole son of God thing or not at all?"
[Public] Ojitar says, "I don't think many monotheists consider Unot a saviour-type figure, but I could be wrong."
[Public] Do Not Upset Mr. Bigglesworth Ronti says, "I'd venture that he would be more like Hercules"
[Public] Professor Amber says, "There are some points of IC theology we encourage the players to debate ICly instead of us coming down and saying this is so. This would be one of them."
[Public] Professor Amber nods to Ronti.
[Public] Ojitar says, "He's the psychopomp, the bearer of souls."
[Public] Clementina says, "I have never throughtof Unot as a christ like figure., But the Eagles worship the Gods of pleasures anyway."
[Public] Tyrsun says, "Sorry, Amber. I'm having a hard time thinking of good questions!"
[Public] Ojitar says, "Me too, sadly."
[Public] Tyrsun says, "Oh, here's one. Gold Dragons: great clan, or greatest clan?"
[Public] Professor Amber says, "At the risk of getting rotten tomatoes at me, I'd say the GDs are not really the most /complex/ of clans."
[Public] Tia says, "..."
[Public] Once was lost, now was Kerasha readies the tomatoes.
[Public] Tia :(
[Public] Ojitar throws tomatoes on cue.
[Public] Tyrsun throws a sword.
[Public] Professor Amber says, "I said 'complex!' That's not bad!"
[Public] Ojitar says, "Let's conquer something now."
[Public] Once was lost, now was Kerasha says, "Then what =are= they Amber?"
[Public] Do Not Upset Mr. Bigglesworth Ronti says, "I missed the beginning, so this may be a redundant question: How many clans are an offshoot of the Gold Dragons?"
[Public] Professor Amber says, "The Griffons are. :)"
[Public] Ojitar says, "Chimera too! Sort of."
[Public] Clementina says, "the Hate goes far back."
[Public] Do Not Upset Mr. Bigglesworth Ronti says, "And the Chimera as well, right?"
[Public] Professor Amber says, "Yeah, you could call the Chimeras an offshoot."
[Public] Clementina says, "But all the clans but the Bears are desended from Eagles."
[Public] Michael Wincott as Nysem says, "Hah..You are all split from the Ticanee..our tribal leaders couldn't agree on who should be Oshta!"
[Public] Professor Amber says, "The GDs are incredibly proud, honourable, militaristic...and they generally tend to be fairly straightforward."
[Public] Once was lost, now was Kerasha grins at Nysem.
[Public] Ojitar says, "You had a bunch of Oshtas, and then you lost them! That's nobody's fault but yours (and the Shamibelians, probably)."
[Public] Do Not Upset Mr. Bigglesworth Ronti says, "Now, the break of Gold Dragons and Griffons was due to political reasons of death, betrayal, from... what's her name.... help?"
[Public] Galanthis says, "the Bears come from the Hydras. news summans2"
[Public] Clementina says, "It's the other way around, Hydras come from bears."
[Public] Michael Wincott as Nysem says, "Each clan took on the name of a different singular Beast (totem animal)"
[Public] Clementina says, "Bears come from Summans"
[Public] Professor Amber says, "Early Firan history is not reliable due to lost records and the oral tradition. The original clans appear to be Eagle, GD, and Hydra."
[Public] Ojitar says, "Totems aren't Zutiv's beasts, though."
[Public] Michael Wincott as Nysem says, "aanything can be a totem"
[Public] Professor Amber says, "Griffons and Chimeras broke off from GD. Cockatrice broke off from Eagles. The Summans became the Bears, with their original leadership from the Hydras."
[Public] Professor Amber says, "However, some people will say different things. There are people who claim the Cockatrices are the oldest clan of all. :)"
[Public] Do Not Upset Mr. Bigglesworth Ronti says, "And I hear the Chimeras left due to more religious reasons, namely a lot of Zutivians who were more poly then mono"
[Public] Michael Wincott as Nysem says, "true dat :)"
[Public] Michael Wincott as Nysem says, "What is traditional GD thoughts on Vrelander and Bonduins?"
[Public] Professor Amber says, "Savages. :)"
[Public] Smoochey Ianootz says, "Vrelanders, too?"
[Public] Once was lost, now was Kerasha says, "Ahh, like the Ticanee?"
[Public] Audere est facere Hufimo says, "They aren't firans, they are savages."
[Public] Professor Amber says, "Although, given the Vrelanders have only been known to the Firans for less than 20 years, and they're barely known to the realms, it's hard to have a traditional viewpoints."
[Public] Professor Amber says, "However, in general, Firans are suspicious of foreigners."
[Public] Michael Wincott as Nysem says, ""interesting, I kind of got the impression, they were slightly more advanced ..cause they helped us through that sickness."
[Public] Do Not Upset Mr. Bigglesworth Ronti says, "GDs just know that they will never let the Vrelanders enter a pentathlon again!"
[Public] Professor Amber says, "They're not Firan! Savages. ;P"
[Public] Professor Amber says, "And they let their women fight. Obviously they don't have the correct attitude towards them."
[Public] Tyrsun says, "They might be fun to conquer on a rainy day?"
[Public] Do Not Upset Mr. Bigglesworth Ronti says, "We sent a diplomatic envoy to them for a reason."
[Public] Do Not Upset Mr. Bigglesworth Ronti says, "Namely, they are good warriors"
[Public] Michael Wincott as Nysem says, "If the Firgaliks had not found Jalil. Which family would be the clan head now?"
[Public] Professor Amber says, "We didn't exactly send a diplomatic envoy to them. The Heroes decided to go of their own volition. They snuck away in the night. :)"
[Public] Once was lost, now was Kerasha says, "Amber, you say that the GD's view the Ticanee as Savages. But what do they think about the fact that their CL was married to Taria?"
[Public] Demuria has left this channel.
[Public] Professor Amber says, "They're not happy about it, Kerasha."
[Public] Ojitar says, "There are other Firgaliks."
[Public] Professor Amber says, "They dislike and mistrust Taria."
[Public] Smoochey Ianootz says, "Probably helps Taria is half Firan, though."
[Public] Do Not Upset Mr. Bigglesworth Ronti says, "Oh! I thought they were sent. The escaped... gotcha"
[Public] Professor Amber nods to Ojitar. The GDs are not going to be happy with anyone other than a Firgalik with the medallion.
[Public] Once was lost, now was Kerasha says, "What is their view on Ojitar then, seeing as he is part Ticanee and Jalil's son?"
[Public] Do Not Upset Mr. Bigglesworth Ronti says, "He married the right girl at least. :)"
[Public] Ojitar says, "Really, personal questions? How gauche. (Just kidding!)"
[Public] Once was lost, now was Kerasha grins at Ojitar.
[Public] Professor Amber says, "At the time Judano died, his nephews Ozer and Quentino were viable candidates for the medallion, and the princes were also candidates through Elianos. Ozer died at war, and Jalil won a civil war over Quentino."
[Public] Tia says, "They love him! (...)"
[Public] Professor Amber says, "Jalil also won a civil war against Solgarik, with Vahlgellan's support."
[Public] Michael Wincott as Nysem says, "Unlike his brothers Ojitar is the golden child..though he does wong occaionally he has always been looked at like he was doing what was best."
[Public] Smoochey Ianootz says, "What is the general GD feeling toward Ticanee? Yes, they're savages, but what about when they do /good/ things that they *like*? Are they savage but have hope? Savage but with good moments? Mostly savages but not all?"
[Public] Audere est facere Hufimo says, "The last emits said that the GDs wanted Ojitar's kid to one day become the CL, not him as much. But this was right after Scirlut"
[Public] Ojitar says, "Yep, Hufimo's on the money with that one. They like Agrippa better."
[Public] Professor Amber says, "As for Ojitar, the GDs do not like his lineage. However, as long as he does well -- and he made a shrewd move marrying the daughter of Lucretia, who is generally well-loved by the GDs -- they'll overlook it. If he messes up, they'll throw his lineage in his face. It's like Jalil being a GD when he does well, and being 'that Griffon bastard' when he messes up."
[Public] Michael Wincott as Nysem says, "theyr'e gonna name a disease after Ojitars kid"
[Public] Audere est facere Hufimo says, "Tia's blood kind cleans up a bit of all that tainted griffon & ticanee one hehe."
[Public] Tia says, "That was actually long after Scirlut."
[Public] Tia says, "That was while we were taking our tour."
[Public] Tia says, "And I lag."
[Public] Ojitar says, "We were /in/ Scirlut though. ;)"
[Public] Tia says, "Yes. :)"
[Public] Professor Amber says, "Tia, other than that little Elik thing, is descended from Firgalas twice over. So that helps."
[Public] Tyrsun wonders how he's thought of, if at all. Heh.
[Public] Audere est facere Hufimo says, "They were already talking about it during Scirlut when they wanted to make Ojitar the CL and he shamed them"
[Public] Professor Amber says, "The GDs have no real love for the Ticanee at all. They don't tend to feel really cuddly toward other clans in general, I think."
[Public] Michael Wincott as Nysem says, "yrsun you and Emil are in the same vein..there are oo many others ahead to be in line, tey could possibly make good Proxies someday I think."
[Public] Professor Amber says, "Tyrsun is the son of a Firgalik woman and a GD hero. He has none of the lineage obstacles Ojitar faces."
[Public] Tyrsun says, "I'm also not in the direct line of inheritance, though, so it does me not a lot of good. :)"
[Public] Professor Amber says, "Well. Firan inheritance is a little nebulous."
[Public] Arik says, "So they won't see you coming!"
[Public] Rabianos says, "Start a Civil war then, Tyrsun! It's all the rage. ;)"
[Public] Ojitar eyes Rabianos.
[Public] Arik says, "Back the right Elianik adn wait for Jalil to croak. :P"
[Public] Professor Amber says, "Generally children of the CL in power have the advantage, but anyone with the royal blood is a candidate. And there are situations where cousins/nephews/nieces have been considered better candidates than direct descendants."
[Public] Professor Amber says, "For instance, in the Bears, when Sabine always favoured the IAs by name over her daughter & granddaughter."
[Public] Tyrsun says, "I suppose that Tyrsun would have a shot, since he's a pretty stereotypical Firgalik, but I don't imagine it'd happen outside of unusual circumstances. :)"
[Public] Ojitar says, "Firan is all about unusual circumstances, you'll find."
[Public] Tyrsun says, "He's a terrible politician, too."
[Public] Arik says, "Don't GD's like that? :)"
[Public] Professor Amber says, "Honestly? I don't feel comfortable delving into that in any great depth as it may touch on character's IC political agendas."
[Public] Michael Wincott as Nysem says, "Sort of not related to GD questions but it affects them, about when, will the leadership of Ranivor pass to the heir?"
[Public] Tyrsun says, "Sorry, Amber. I was just rambling, if you were speaking to me."
[Public] Professor Amber says, "But Tyrsun would be a perfectly acceptable candidate to the GD NPCs as CL, yes. What the NPCs want, what Jalil wants, and what the CC wants may be entirely different things, though."
[Public] Professor Amber says, "That's entirely an IC question, Nysem. It's up to the CC."
[Public] Professor Amber says, "You may presume that the CC so far does not find any of the princes completely acceptable."
[Public] Michael Wincott as Nysem says, "so until there are PC's in the CL roles, a lot of things will remain as they are for now."
[Public] Professor Amber says, "Not necessarily, Nysem. As I said, it's an IC issue."
[Public] Once was lost, now was Kerasha says, "Hey Amber, what do the GD's think about the Eagle's penchant for drinking?"
[Public] Michael Wincott as Nysem :) cool
[Public] Professor Amber says, "Drinking is manly. Eagles are floofy."
[Public] Kelarik says, "Hey."
[Public] Once was lost, now was Kerasha applauds.
[Public] Michael Wincott as Nysem says, "drunken idiots are also easier to conquer"
[Public] Michael Wincott as Nysem chuckles
[Public] Professor Amber finds it strangely easy to slip into a GD mindset. :)
[Public] Ojitar recruits Amber as a player.
[Public] Tyrsun says, "I do, too. I think it's because they're so straightforward in their views."
[Public] Professor Amber says, "That was what I meant when I said they're not particularly complex. They're straightforward and aboveboard, even if you don't agree with them."
[Public] Tia says, "Wow, I find it .. not nearly so easy."
[Public] Professor Amber says, "They don't have all the little nuances and subtlety that, say, the Bears have."
[Public] Alicia Keys as Auria says, "Ever since I joined, I've been kicking myself for not playing a mono female."
[Public] Professor Amber says, "A GD man says something to you, in general you're going to be pretty sure they meant what they said. A Bear woman says something to you, you're going to spend the next two weeks going "What did she /really/ mean?" :)"
[Public] Once was lost, now was Kerasha giggles.
[Public] Alicia Keys as Auria says, "I love Auria, honestly, but she's very similar to characters I usually play. I should have picked something that I could have a bit more fun trying to get a hold of."
[Public] Professor Amber says, "That's a huge generalization, but I think you get the idea."
[Public] Alicia Keys as Auria says, "/random"
[Public] Tyrsun avoids the Bear women. "I only know to never accept tea from an Ista Aldrik."
[Public] Arik says, "Historically have the GD's ever really tried to conqure the Eagles, and if so what happened? Or is that something lost in the histories? :)"
[Public] Adan says, "We tease a lot about the Gold Dragons. What do you think is good about them?"
[Public] Michael Wincott as Nysem says, "and Bear women like to wield hairpoins of death."
[Public] Alicia Keys as Auria says, "(I mean, there's more to Auria than my usual characters, but if I get an alt, they sure are going to be a Hydran or a GD. Sorry, random. I'm done.)"
[Public] Professor Amber says, "The Bears are the GDs' big rivals, since they're the other big clan, and opposite in so many ways. Although, of course, their big enemies are the Griffons."
[Public] Professor Amber says, "If they have, it's not recorded in the records, Arik."
[Public] Tyrsun says, "I like the little rivalry between the Bears and the Gold Dragons, particularly because of the differences in leadership. Patriarchy vs. matriarchy."
[Public] Michael Wincott as Nysem says, "the Bear GD rivalry came to a head during in the city?"
[Public] Michael Wincott as Nysem says, "a massacre"
[Public] Professor Amber sees the GD straightforwardness as a virtue, depending on what sort of player you are. They can be very brutal, but they're also very honourable, according to their view of honour. And I think their pride can be just plain fun.
[Public] Tyrsun says, "I actually learned some good things from this, Amber. :) I need to buy some more jewelry to exhibit my wealth!"
[Public] Audere est facere Hufimo says, "It is always fun to brag."
[Public] Jericho has joined this channel.
[Public] Michael Wincott as Nysem says, "currntly about what percent of the population are the so called red versions of Dragon society?"
[Public] Audere est facere Hufimo says, "Heh, careful Tyrsun, too much and you will look like a floof, that's what wives and daughters are good for"
[Public] Jericho has left this channel.
[Public] Dicci is sorry if this has already been covered. What prompted the conflict between the Gold Dragons and Griffons when Jalil took the medallion from Judanarius? and then he gave it back. What got all that started?
[Public] Professor Amber says, "I don't think we've put an exact percentage to it. My guess -- and I'd have to check with Steph over it -- is probably a little less than half of Sarkaran in Red Dragon, since half of Nelabam is Red Bear, and more Cockatrices stayed with the Bears because there was no religious difference."
[Public] Mahir says, "Was the great temple in Sarkaran converted over to a monotheistic one?"
[Public] Professor Amber says, "Yes, Mahir."
[Public] Tyrsun says, "Aside from the issues of leadership, would you say the Gold Dragons are prospering now? Declining? Or somewhere in the middle?"
[Public] Professor Amber says, "I'd say they were somewhere in the middle, Tyrsun. Not actively shriveling, but it's not a proud time for them. There's a lot of unhappiness and uncertainty and that tends to be reflected through the entire clan."
[Public] Professor Amber says, "Actually, Dicci, I can't remember the exact circumstances right now. I think that was the first time that Judanarius lost the medallion, which he did a few times, and my memory's shaky."
[Public] Dicci's too. :->
[Public] Audere est facere Hufimo says, "They have also lost their domain over the republic military. That is always particularly annoying but GD soldiers are known to have a low life expectancy."
[Public] Tia says, "@roster/siblings judanarius has some info."
[Public] Tia says, "It looks like it was in 24 AU?"
[Public] Professor Amber says, "Ah, it was part of the clan reshuffle after the Bear-Gold Dragon war."
[Public] Dicci says, "Ooh, yes, thank you Tia."
[Public] Tia says, "Sure!"
[Public] Professor Amber says, "Anyway, we're past the two hour mark. Any burning questions before I shut us down?"
[Public] Professor Amber says, "And, as a reminder, our next theme hour is at our traditional Monday 11 pm slot, and we will be discussing the Hydras!"
