Ticanee Newsletter 63 - 3/5/04

Dear Journal,
Well its been a few weeks since I've written. Its not for lack of things to write about thats for sure. There's been lots of stuff going on, so i'll try to go somewhat in order, but its all in a jumble in my brain. Its been a real busy month for the Ticanee clan.
Our own Dame Mother Urtenia turned 53, and of course the Ticanee threw our beloved Sharani a birthday party to end all birthday partys. I guess a bunch of the men there got in a line and spelled out "I <3 Urtenia!" My step father Radik was the exclamation point...dont ask Dear Journal, the thought of /how/ he was the exclamation point just makes me shudder.
I guess the party laster longer for some than it did for others, cause word is that Kendra Coyote was seen exiting a tent with a certain Gold Dragon man the morning after. Maybe Kendra is warming up to someone finally?
That was one of the bright spots in the last month or so...there were plenty of sad spots too. A few weeks ago our city was hit by a bunch of heavy winds. A few of them even collected into what folks are calling a tornado...it looked kinda like a long funnel and did way lots of damage. Vilory I guess got hit by flying debris and was hurt pretty bad for a while, knocked out cold from what i've heard. The tornados didn't stop there though, even the Dawn mansion fell victim to the winds. The winds were so fierce they caused the very walls to shake and rattle.
The room that Srennik (Praise Candidate) and I and the other kids share caught on fire when the wall sconces fell from the walls onto the bed below. It was a pretty bad fire. Mom was knocked out from the smoke almost instantly, it was real scary. Nik and I got the kids out of the room and to safety and Nik had to drag mom out of the room while I tried to get water on as much as possible. Aunt Xenobia and Uncle Primo and Lonnell showed up and helped us put out the last of the fire. We found out later that momma had lost her baby when she fell and taken real sick because of all the smoke that she breathed in. The bedroom is a mess, and most of us kids are sleeping in the parlor right now until its fixed, but Uncle Primo is right on it, he'll probably have it fixed up good as new if not better in no time.
Srennik has been looking for someone to create a special statue of our dad for the Ticanee district at the Oshta's request. There's been some problems with that though. Seems Nik contacted Lord Esen to see if he might be interested and the man sent back a message saying that he wasn't a servant and to get someone else to do it. While it sounded kinda rude at first...and well...still does, Aunt Xenobia has asked us not to speak badly about the man cause he's not a sculpter by trade or something. I still think he's a pompous jackass, but i'm gonna listen to my Aunty on this one, she usually knows best.
Harvinia and I got to have our Rites of Passage this month too. We're real adults now! We both got armor from Lupos and our first tattoos. Harvinia got a blue wolf's paw on her cheek and I got a cave lioness resting on a bed of flames. Radik (Praise Candidate) gave us our quests and did our ceremony. All of our friends where there and...well it was a really nice ceremony.
There's been alot of really scary stuff going on lately. Folks are saying its cause the gods are angry. I dont know what they're angry about but...I really hope thats not the case. We've had everything from fires to heavy winds to even Shammie attacks! The Firans have lost a few of thier people but so far thank the gods and totems both the Ticanee haven't been raided. Gods and Totems willing we wont be.
Uncle Primo (Praise Candidate) has been hard at work keeping the Shamis at bay, and I can only hope that folks recognize that. He's been out on griffon back with every raid and has even saved a Firan child and taken down a shami or two.
The Oshta (Praise Candidate) gave a history lesson at the Palace tonight, I heard it went over really well and lots of kids turned up to hear the Oshta tell the history of the Firans and the Ticanee. Its really kinda neat that someone as busy and important as the Oshta would take the time to teach kids about thier history. But then history has always been an important thing to the Ticanee clan.
Anyway Dear Journal, I supose thats about all for right now. I had to start a brand new Journal cause the old one was burned up in the fire. So this will be the first page of my new one, hopefully I can keep this one in tact and maybe even pass it down someday as my own little bit of history.
