Ticanee Newsletter 72 - 9/6/04
From FiranMUX
Dear Journal,
War season has come and gone, with much happiness, as well as much sadness. It always seems that way doesn't it? People are lost, and folks get sad, but people return, so you've got to be happy at the same time. Or perhaps its just relief that more weren't lost. The biggest news I have for you today is also the saddest. During the recent war season we lost one of our own Ticanee clan members. Terpsika Mink was lost to us in the ongoing battle to recover Ellish. It is said and certainly believed that Terpsika died fighting off shamibelians, that she was brave and fierce to the very end. Just like a true Ticanee. She will be missed. Many of us remember watching her with her horses, or learning riding from her, or just talking to her at the clan gatherings. I have heard it said that the loss of one Ticanee to our clan is like the loss of a thousand to other clans. In this case I know it is true, for we can all feel the loss of Terpsika and likely will for years to come. May the totems and the gods guide her to the next life.
On a less sad note, we also had many returning clan members who made it home from Ellish safe and sound, they returned to fanfare and a hero's welcome many family members and loved ones showed up to greet thier returning soldiers, among them were Primo, Kendra, Isik, Okatik, Alexa, Ulrik, Lester, Derik and countless others. They all deserve our utmost respect and our praises. The fact that we had so many going to war proves that dispite our differences with the Firans we all stand together on one thing. We all know that the shamis are bad and must be stopped.
Uncle Primo proved what a true hero he was at this war season. So much so that it is said he was gifted a bracelet by Srenna herself. The bracelet it is said offered inspiration and the knowledge that Srenna was with him and watching over him in battle.
On the homefront while the soldiers battled those of us still in the city tried to do our part to keep the morale of the soldiers up. Aunt Xenobia organized a letter writing campaign through the temple of Srenna, offering help to any who needed it so that they could write to thier loved ones and let the soldiers know we are all behind them and thinking about them. I organized a prayer service for the soldiers and afterwords many stayed and wrote letter after letter to our soldiers, some with the help of initiates and priests from the temple. It was after that that I discovered that my mentor, Lord General Xegolus had fallen in battle. I've been spending lots of time in the temples since them, praying and holding vigil with the others who are praying for our lost loved one. I was not alone in that, Abayos Mink was there too, praying for his mother, and Dame Mother Urtenia has also spent hours there with us, praying and talking about those that have been lost to us.
Not all of my news today is about the war though, there has, as always been much going on with our clan. The wedding between Jeronika Jaffus and Tansel Cottonmouth that was suposed to take place did not in fact take place. Or at least the official one. I'm not sure if they're still considered married or not really. Sometimes its hard to tell. Needless to say Jeronika was way mad being stood up like she was. I'm sure there will be hell to pay when Tansel returns from...whereever he's dissapeared off to.
Aunt Xenobia has been looking to install a full time shopkeeper in the district, with the job of selling Ticanee goods. I'm sure it will do well once its finished, because everyone knows that Ticanee goods are the best. The shop is going to be at the Ticanee tailor shop from what i've heard. The old building that Xenobia inherited from Lotis. She's planning on prepurchasing goods from the craftsmen and then reselling them in the shop for a small markup, keeping the prices competitive with some of the other shops. She's planning on having a little of everything in the shop, though more expensive items will probably have to wait until the Dawns resources build up from the addition they've put onto thier mansion.
Harvinia and Okatik have a new little boy in thier family. He's a healthy little boy that they've named Lykaios. I'm sure they are already working on raising him to be a proper ticanee, and a proper bobcat. Especially now that Okatik has been accepted by Radik, Taria and Urtenia to train and a shaman.
Speaking of Okatik, he got to play the hero a little bit before war season when he saved a little girl who had climbed up a tall tree and then coudln't get herself back down again. I guess this all happened in the Chimera park, the wind was really bad and nearly blew her out of the tree. Okatik climbed up after her and fetched her down to safety. I gotta wonder what type of dummy climbs up a tree and cant get back down again? Good thing Okatik was there else she'd probably still be up there.
Well Dear Journal, I think thats about enough for right now. I'm going to have to get some more scrolls soon, and a place to lock you away as well. You've gotten too thick for your scroll case now. But perhaps someday when i'm old and as white haired as Dame Mother Urtenia, I can pull you out of wherever you've been stored and read you to all the kids of the clan. I think that would be really neat. Anyway, bye for now Dear Journal, until next time!
