Ticanee Newsletter 74 - 10/28/04

Dear Journal,
Well lets see, this week has really had its ups and downs...and then its ups again. I'm not quite sure where to start, so I supose i'll start with myself. Zaqik and I broke up this week, yep thats right... broke up. It only lasted for about a day...but it was the most heartbreaking sad day i've had in a very long time. It all started out so nice too. Zutrinia and I and Zaqik and Danel were going to go on a picnic, even Geld and Bruinhilda (Trinia's and my guards) were smiling. Anyway, somehow Zaq and I ended up fighting, and things just got worse from there and the next thing I knew he was just gone. I cried for a really long time. Yep, thats right...I cried, bawled like a baby. And then I cried some more when Zaqik turned up at my mom's Ticanee Battle and returned my ring to me...and then had the audacity to ask for his ring back. Thank the totems and gods both that we finally talked it out. We're all good now and I think we're stronger for it. Later that night we went in front of the Oshta with my mom. It went really well too...at least I think so. There were some tight spots, especially when the Oshta started asking about...well personal stuff, but for the most part I think the Oshta approves of him...well mostly anyway. Zaq's gotta do some stuff to learn more about how to deal with a Ticanee wife but he'll do whatever he has to...or i'll kick his butt, and my mom will take whats left after i'm done!
The Ticanee battle went well...cept for that they wouldn't let mom in on account of her broken arm. She sure was fussy when the guards at the training center wouldn't let her in. Captain Omiak of the eagle clan ended up taking her place as judge though and the battle went off without a hitch. Derik Swiftpaw ended up the victor after a particularly viscious shot to Okatik Swiftpaw's throat...and they say the Ticanee cant play nice with family. I think everyone had fun. So even without mom there she throws one hell of an event!
Speaking of the Swiftpaws, Okatik Swiftpaw has once again guided one of the young ones of the clan to adulthood. Gemma Whitefeather has completed her Rites of Passage and is now an adult of the Ticanee clan! The quest that Gemma had to complete was set by Radik and Okatik organized the ceremony, and boy what a ceremony! Okatik sure knows how to make them memorable and powerful. When Gemma stood and called the Bobcat Totem to her it was plain to see that Bobcat heeded her call. Lots of people showed up to see the young girl into adulthood and everyone was so proud of her. May Bobcat guide her well.
Another bit of news involved Tagda Leafchaser, her body was found outside the city near death after having been mauled by a bear. Gemma Whitefeather was the one who happened upon the woman who was at the time unconscious. After being brought back to the city to heal it was discovered that she was carrying her will and wearing no armor. Folks say that she was trying to kill herself. She was ordered to stay in the Dawn mansion for her own protection until the Oshta or one of the proxies could figure out what to do since she'd already been jailed once before for trying to hurt herself.
Word is that Abayos Mink attempted to visit Tagda while she was recovering. It was then that Tagda woke from her unconscious state and then from what i've heard went into a tizzy fit and tried to attack Abayos with her spear. Tagda was immediately subdued by Jeronika and then was jailed by Aunt Xenobia. The Oshta later made a judgement that Tagda is to be held for her own protectiion, as well as called for the arrest of Lord General Draugik. Who knows where this could lead...but I tell you one thing Dear Journal, I dont think its gonna be pretty.
A group of Ticanee later went out to find the bear and bring it down so that it couldn't hurt any one else that might happen across it. Some very skilled hunters were there, as well as one Feathyr Whitehawke who later got in trouble for being anywhere near a bear. Word is someone snitched. But really...what was she thinking going on a Bear hunt? I wonder if Alexa warmed her butt...I sure would if I had a kid who did that. Folks that are looking for Feathyr will find her sulking around the Wolfhawke house riding out her punishment.
I supose the only other news is the Ticanee party. It went okay, some things weren't quite as expected but I think folks had fun anyway, at least I hope so. The hunt went great, we had way more folks than I thought we would and took down several moose and a few elk which a group of us cooked up for the rest of the day's events. We didn't have many women show up for the honey wrestling so instead we ended up tossing the kids from the clan into the pit and letting them have at it. In the end of the match the three that came out on top were Rita Ravenseye, Matti Swiftpaw, and Tara Ravenseye. Boy were they cute... of course once they were all honey covered I sent em all home to thier parents for thier baths. The dance was quieter than i'd expected too, I was a little worried at first but thanks to Lutika's dance lessons even it ended up being a fun event. Lutika and Jeronika taught lots of dances to the folks who showed up and one older Firan woman who attended, Mes Jalachia sent me a message saying how much fun she had. Boy I tell you what, for an elderly mes that woman hase some spirit to her. She really did great with those dances..kinda reminded me of Dame Mother Urtenia even.
Oh! And Harvinia Swiftpaw has been made Minister of Education for the Ticanee clan! Little surprise there, she's always been way smart. What with all her languages and stuff. Plus with as many kids as she's racking up she's gonna have to be a good teacher to teach all of them. I know she'll do the clan proud in this position.
Well Dear Journal, thats all I got for now and i'm super tired so I'm going to just be putting you away for now and i'm going to get some well needed sleep. Until next time!
