The Liberator
The deck of this trireme is made of solid planks of wood, carefully crafted together to be seaworthy, though like all decks on vessels such as this, they require constant scrubbing to keep clean. The sides of the ship have been freshly painted with a variety of colourful symbols, one for each clan, one for the Republic, and one for the liberated city of Ellish. In the farground, the figurehead of an angry Zin can be seen at the front of the vessel, seemingly made of solid gold, with eyes of finest sapphire. A skeleton crew exists below deck, but they are under orders not to interact with any of the 'newcomers'. They are here strictly to man the oars.
Supreme Pirate Captain
Runagate Ren
- Lady Srenni Sennet of the Griffon Clan
Mamoon grabs the ratty old hat that had served two captains over the course of the entire voyage and he returns it onto the first's head, as she is proclaimed the victor. He smiles at her proudly and notes, "I think any one of you would be a great Supreme Pirate, but this lass has won the title, and she deserves to keep it." He adds, keeping a hand over the chest for now, "You will get what is inside this chest, but also know that, while I am not long for this world, my nephew Nanoom will always have this ship for your use, should the ocean ever require you take a voyage across it. The islands, they are yours to visit as well, so long as you do not abuse them."

The Voyage
April 13, 2008
The majority of the crew met at the southern Palace District gates and were given some time to get supplies last minute. Those who showed for this leg of the trip were Lord Aeryk IstaNydiam, Lord Daemio Sennet, Lady Srenni Sennet, Delegate Zutani Zutivik, Dame Shaman Gemma Leafchaser, Centurion Davonos Anizut, Sentry Niobe Istems and Mer Razaq Mondarik. Mer Kai and his bodyguard snuck after them. They travelled northwest of the city, taking the ferry and then trekking down the road to Lurashar. Despite the snow, they took as few stops as possible. They were told to start coming up with pirate names, though many struggled through the next few days.
April 14, 2008
Centurion Gaddineez Ashlai caught up to the group, to join them for the rest of the journey. The crew reached Lurashar and went straight to The Liberator. From this point on, they were all to be equals, Old City scum and nobles alike. Dread Pirate Mamoon gave them a tour of the ship, explaining where they would be staying over the next few weeks. They were told to think about who should be captain and why, which created some tension. Eventually, some of the crew opted to explore Lurashar while they could, while others remained on the ship to talk and get to know each other. In particular, those remaining on the ship were treated to a story of Srenni's mission into the city of Ellish from the 42 AU campaign.
April 15, 2008
The crew was given some time between arriving on The Liberator and setting sail to get used to ship life -- or at least as close as they could get. Lord Marsalos Iberik and Sentry Sabria managed to reach the trireme to join up. Dread Pirate Mamoon ordered the skeleton crew to cast off then asked who wished to be captain. At first, only Marsalos volunteered, but a number of people all pointed to Srenni. After some consideration, she agreed to put her name in as well. Marsalos decided to back her instead of going against her. It took some time for Srenni to choose her officers, a fight nearly breaking out within the ranks, but it was quickly stopped. Runagate Ren ended up choosing Marsalos and Gaddineez for her officers.
April 16, 2008
The Liberator continued to sail around the edge of the Hydran lands from Lurashar to Nelanos. It was relatively peaceful, with one exception. When Runagate Ren, Mad Mars and the Bonduin Badass emerged from the officer's quarters, Blackey Dagger-Fist decided to ignore the call to attention, instead going below the deck. Gaddineez followed him down and after a small bit of yelling they both returned on deck, only to yell and get into a fist fight. The brawl did not, however, last more than a few punches, as Runagate Ren broke it up, stating that she did not wish her crew to be injured. Razaq declared that he would leave the ship and return to Lurashar. While Gaddineez would have thrown him overboard, Srenni overruled it by stating Razaq could depart the ship when they reach Nelanos. He went to bed after that, and she returned to the deck, where stories were once again told.
April 17, 2008
The rest of the voyage was uneventful and soon they reached the Bear city of Nelanos. The crew was allowed to stop in Nelanos if they wished, else they were just to stay on the ship. They did not remain long, heading for the Isle of the Green Lagoon for the first challenge. Dread Pirate Maroon announced that, as Razaq left, Peg would be allowed to compete. Gem-booty Gemma took the lead of the rebel team and they had to choose teams. Runagate Ren chose, in addition to Mad Mars and the Bonduin Badass, Stabbin' Sabs and Flint. Gem-booty Gemma took Dull Hatchet Davy, Naughty Niobe, Peg and Daemio the Dark.
To begin the challenge, the two teams were given maps. Runagate Ren's team figured it out incredibly fast and took off, where Gem-booty Gemma decided to follow them. Ren's team ran up towards the lagoon ahead of Gemma's, and sent Mad Mars into the water to retrieve a key. To slow down Gemma's team, the Bonduin Badass found a trap and triggered it, loosing an elk on her! They managed to scare it off quickly and continued, sending Naughty Niobe Throat-Slasher into the lagoon. Mad Mars had some trouble keeping his breath and came out with injuries, which allowed Naughty Niobe to untangle the key first. While Gemma's team made their way up towards the chest, Ren's team got the key and dashed after them. Evidentally, they really wanted to win, as they turned up the speed and made it up to the chest first.
In the chest was two diamonds and an emerald. Captain Runagate Ren opted to take some time to consider what to do with them. However, then she had to choose three people who could be 'marooned' on the island (shipped back to Lurashar). Of those possible, she announced that Peg, Daemio the Dark and Dull Hatchet Davy were those who the rest had to choose from. None voted to leave behind Peg. One voted for Davy and three for Dark. Daemio the Dark was sent back to Lurashar on a rowboat and the rest retired to the ship, but not until Peg got himself bitten by a diseased monkey. It is unknown if he has contracted an illness from it. The Liberator returned to Nelanos' docks for the night.
April 18, 2008
Black Rock Island was announced as the next destination, but also that they would have to row themselves out to it. Mamoon also let slip that the 'monkeypox fever' Peg contracted is known to them; he just didn't expect anyone to irritate the animals. Once again, Gem-booty Gemma became the rebel captain in a unanimous vote, her opposition being the ill Peg. Since a great number were yet sea sick or resting, the competition was Runagate Ren, Mad Mars and the Bonduin Badass versus Gem-booty Gemma, Stabbin' Sabs and Flint.
They began in Ticanee canoes, having to make their way to shore. From the start, Gem-booty Gemma's team pulled out ahead, reaching the shore first. As Grey Aeryk the Stormborn emerged from The Liberator, he was placed on Gem-booty Gemma's team, and Peg joined Runagate Ren's. They had to find a key within a boar's guts, but both teams managed to find it at the same time. They had to run up a hill toward a plateau, and Runagate Ren's team barely squeaked ahead again, with the Bonduin Badass again spotting a trap: he triggered some boulders to fall upon the other team. Although Gem-booty Gemma, Grey Aeryk the Stormborn and Flint managed to avoid them to greater or lesser difficulty, Stabbin' Sabs was hit. They reach the plateau, to find a pit of snakes, some poisonous; the chest is in the center. Everyone except the Bonduin Badass and Gem-booty Gemma ran on in without hesitation. However, a good number got stopped mid-way, with only Stabbin' Sabs, Grey Aeryk the Stormborn (who got bitten) and Runagate Ren continuing on -- and Runagate Run reached the chest first. The captain was victorious again.
Runagate Ren, once she had returned to the ship, blackmarked Gem-booty Gemma, Naughty Niobe Throat-Slasher and Stabbin' Sabs. Stabbin' Sabs received no votes, saving her. Gem-booty Gemma received one vote and Naughty Niobe Throat-Slasher took three, marking her as the one to walk the plank. Mamoon announced that Captain Ren would have to choose two new officers; in a twist of events, she chose Gem-booty Gemma as an officer, as well as Grey Aeryk the Stormborn.
April 19, 2008
In a twist of fate, the crew was too seasick (or busy visiting whores, as the case may be) for them to go to the next island! To make up for it, the next challenge will eliminate two people!
OOC: No code allowed. Mamoon was sleepy. Decided to hold off until tomorrow!
April 20, 2008
The Liberator arrived at Sandy Cove Island, although it seemed the Captain Runagate Ren was sleeping off her seasickness and did not awake right away. Her officers, Grey Aeryk the Stormborn and Gem-booty Gemma went down, and from the rest an anti-captain was chosen: the Bonduin Badass. He chose Mad Mars the Magenta Maelstrom to be on his side. The captain's officers then picked Dull Hatchet Davy for their side, which left Flint for the rebel crew. It was at this time that Captain Runagate Ren made her appearance. Mamoon stated that they would have to choose one person to sit aside, but Stabbin' Sabs arrived, so she was placed on the rebel team and no such decision had to be made.
The very first thing the two teams had to do was dig. Runagate Ren's team was much more skilled at this, Gem-booty Gemma coming up with a small box almost immediately while the rebel crew continued to search. However, when she opened it, she found a scorpion guarding a note. After some fussing with it, Gem-booty Gemma passed the box to Runagate Ren, but not until after the other team had gotten their note out. Runagate Ren quickly snagged the note, but the Bonduin Badass' team following its directions: follow the black paint up the rock. Unfortunately, the Bonduin Badass and his team had a difficult time of climbing the cliff, and Runagate Ren and her crew launched themselves up it quickly.
They then had to pick one person to retrieve a key -- Runagate Ren chose Gem-booty Gemma to go on ahead. She hesitated long enough to allow the Bonduin Badass (representing his crew) to catch up, as it was a rickety bridge within a volcano they had to cross to get the key. A fall could be fatal. The two steadily made their way across, but the Bonduin Badass had quite a bit of trouble, nearly falling in. Gem-booty Gemma reached the key first and swung back over to the rest of the crew. They then took rags and used them as a make-shift zipline down the mountain again. Eventually, Gaddineez did in fact get the key, but by the time his crew made it back to the beach, Runagate Ren's crew had nearly reached the chest. They had little chance at the end, and the Captain was once again victorious.
In a turn of events, Captain Runagate Ren did not have to blackmark people. Instead, she had to choose two people to protect in addition to her officers. It was a quick decision on the captain's part, unlike the blackmarking of the previous nights, and she announced that Mad Mars the Magenta Maelstrom and Dull Hatchet Davy were under her protection that night, leaving Flint, the Bonduin Badass, Stabbin' Sabs and Peg on the block. After the vote, neither Flint nor Stabbin' Sabs received any votes. Two voted for Peg and three for the Bonduin Badass, so they both were sent away.
April 21, 2008
The next stop was the Cliffs of Insanity. As only five people were awake and up for the challenge, Flint had to stay out. Captain Runagate Ren and Grey Aeryk the Stormborn stood for their team, while Dull Hatchet Davy took the reigns of the rebel crew, choosing Stabbin' Sabs for his own crew. Flint went with Mamoon.
It was announced that the two crews had to scale the cliff. The higher they went, the more difficult it became. Once they neared the top, there was little to nothing in the way of hand holds. Runagate Ren and Grey Aeryk the Stormborn launched themselves up the cliff, working at high speeds. Dull Hatchet Davy and Stabbin' Sabs made their way up more slowly. All four came out of it rather sore, especially those who slipped down the cliff face. Luckily, none fell to their deaths. At the top, there was a field of rodent burrows, and the keys were in them. Only Grey Aeryk the Stormborn got bitten by a rodent, but he managed to find the key long before Dull Hatchet Davy found one for the rebel crew. Runagate Ren and Stormborn took off down the field, trying to avoid holes in the ground, to get to the chest. However, their bodies gave up on them; they had pushed themselves too hard climbing. While they were trying to get their bodies too cooperate, the rebel team, who had gone slower and conserved energy on the cliff, passed them by not far away.
Runagate Ren faced her first defeat of the voyage. Dull Hatchet Davy was made the new captain. However, he chose Runagate Ren and Grey Aeryk the Stormborn as his officers. Stabbin' Sabs, Flint, Mad Mars the Magenta Maelstrom and Gem-booty Gemma were put on the block, though only the first two were there for the vote. There was one vote for Stabbin' Sabs and another for Mad Mars, so it came down to the captain and his officers to break the tie. All three voted for Stabbin' Sabs, sending her off the plank. She did, however, manage to find herself a grouse companion before her leave.
April 22, 2008
There was no challenge this day, so the crew just did their thing on the ship. With the exception of Mad Mars going wakeboarding, it was relatively uneventful.
April 23, 2008
The ship dropped anchor in the middle of the sea, although the crew could see the Cliffs of Insanity from afar. Captain Dull Hatchet Davy was informed he had to relieve one of his officers. He dismissed Grey Aeryk the Stormborn from his service, keeping Runagate Ren as his officer. When an anti-captain was called for, only Mad Mars the Magenta Maelstrom stepped forward, choosing Stormborn as his first. Dull Hatchet Davy chose Gem-booty Gemma and as such Mad Mars received Zutani. The rowing crew was called up from below to judge.
The strength and wit of each team was to be tested, pitting one person from each team against each other. In the end, first place would get their team five points, second would get three and third would get two. First up was Captain Dull Hatchet Davy against Grey Aeryk the Stormborn. Dull Hatchet Davy proved he was not particularly impressive with his bow, although his wit shined through every round. Stormborn, on the other hand, made a wonderful display with his bow and, while not always amusing, made some good remarks. In the end, the crew chased Davy overboard, Stormborn moving onto the next round. Next was Gem-booty Gemma versus Mad Mars the Magenta Maelstrom. The crew was incredibly interested in Gemma's... muscles. To the point that they did not care what she said. In fact, Mad Mars' combat skills failed to drag their attention, and one of Gemma's insults left him speechless! She took that round, with Mad Mars ending up in the sea. Finally, Runagate Ren faced Flint. In the first round, their displays were rather evenly matched, but Runagate Ren's doomed her; she'd jumped up on the railing, and by the next round she was losing her balance. Not only that, but her retort fell flat when she decided she couldn't finish it! Flint made a stunning display in the second round, but started to slip by the final round. While Ren's combat show came back up, it was not enough, especially with her inability to speak and fight at the same time. Instead of waiting to be tossed overboard, Runagate Ren hopped up on the railing and dove in of her own accord -- perhaps with good reason. She remained under for a worrying length of time, but eventually made it back up to the boat.
So the second round included Grey Aeryk the Stormborn and Flint of Mad Mars' rebel crew and Gem-booty Gemma of Captain Dull Hatchet Davy's crew. Gem-booty Gemma's booty and words continued to impress the crew, though she got distracted in the second round by some leering. Stormborn's spearwork improved and was rather consistant, his words stinging the first round, but in the second he was having too much difficulty trying to figure out what Gem-booty Gemma even said to come up with his own! Flint's sword show deflated, perhaps tired out from her match with Runagate Ren, though her words remained sharp. Still, in the end the crew favored Gem-booty Gemma. This created a tie, with both teams earning five points. It was decided with a coin toss, Captain Dull Hatchet Davy calling tails -- and it turned up tails, leaving Dull Hatchet Davy and Runagate Ren immune from being sent home.
Two people would be eliminated, leaving a final four. The vote was between Mad Mars the Magenta Maelstrom, Grey Aeryk the Stormborn, Gem-booty Gemma and Flint, with only them getting votes. The Captain and his officer would only speak up if there was a tie. However, there was no tie. Neither Mad Mars nor Stormborn received any votes, but Flint received one and Gem-booty Gemma received three. They were both shipped back to Lurashar.
April 24, 2008
The crew was been pared down to a final four: Dull Hatchet Davy, Runagate Ren, Mad Mars the Magenta Maelstrom and Grey Aeryk the Stormborn. There would no longer be a captain or officer, or the immunity such positions grant upon winning. The challenge was to be all four pitted against each other. Mamoon announced that they would be going to Pebble Beach, and the ship dropped anchor a bit from the shore.
The four dove into the water, swimming for the beach. Mad Mars reached it first, with Runagate and Davy close behind; Stormborn floundered a bit, but eventually made it to shore. Runagate caught up to Mad Mars on the next leg, where the four had to scale statues of heads; at the top were keys. The two made it up first, though Stormborn and Davy both struggled; Davy would be stuck climbing until right before the winner was decided. Mad Mars and Ren both had to make their way to a fenced area, to kill rabbits: within their insides were keys. Both finished this relatively quickly, and moved onto a town.
The pair had to convince villagers to give them keys. Mad Mars, being much more charismatic, got his faster than Ren, taking a bit of a lead to run across a field, only he had difficulty finding the key in the grass. It was at this point that Stormborn managed to scale the statue, and he took out a rabbit with a single arrow, getting that key quickly. He, too, struggled a bit with the villagers, but Runagate finally convinced one to give her a key and took off across the field, just in time to see Mad Mars find his own fourth key. Ren found hers soon after, and the pair was tied once again.
There were four chests in the fields, all with multiple locks, some of which were dummies. They had to figure out which chest their keys went to. It was at this time Stormborn got his key and began to run down the field -- only, he had a cramp and had to stop. Dull Hatchet Davy finally managed to scale the face statue for his first key, but while he was in the process of killing the rabbit, Runagate Ren found the chest her keys went to.
The competition ended. Runagate Ren was once again the captain, named the Supreme Pirate. Mamoon stated that, although he would not be long for this world, his nephew would have the ship ready for her use, and the islands were hers so long as she did not abuse them. With that prize and the chest, The Liberator sailed back to Lurashar. The four were flown back to Anarinuell upon griffons from there.
Destinations
Isle of the Green Lagoon
Sandy beaches on this island surround a peaceful lagoon, in which abundant wildlife floats. Among the sand are reeds growing wildly abundant, climbing the vast dunes that slope to grassland. Interspersed are exotic trees, with round fruits that hang low, almost, but not quite, in reach. Living among the treetops, families of monkeys can be seen, and brilliantly colored birds nesting. The lagoon is a stunning shade of green, crystal clear, with shale rocks at the bottom providing a smooth surface. Daylight heats the island by day, making it warmer than is usual. Relief can be found in the shade of the trees, for certainly the sand is hot on the feet.
Black Rock Island
Stark colors of deepest onyx and pearly white make this island an interesting mix. There are abundant caves in the cliffs of the island - cliffs which are not normal greyish red stone color, but rather a slick black, looking almost oiled. The sand on the ground is pale white, and reflects the blackness at times, almost translucent. There is little life besides the odd hermit crab burrowing, the occasional snake, and vultures and seagulls overhead, and even they tend to be black and white. By night, the island looks even darker, more shadowed and mysterious. The caves invite exploration with torches, for the not so faint at heart.
Sandy Cove Island
At first sight, this island is pure relaxation. The beaches are plentiful, and the dunes small but rolling. There are lovely palm trees that way in the breeze, their fruits dropping to the ground, ripe for the tasting. In the trees, melodious songbirds add their voices to the chorus of oceanic music and the calls of the wind. There is driftwood piled up by the shoreline in places, perfect for lighting campfires by. It is a haven, a retreat. Or is it? Looking toward the center of the island, a large mountain can be seen, trees making their way up it, some twisted and black. And there are occasional rumbles, unsettled, from the ground. The daylight makes the mountain seem somehow less worrisome.
Inside the Volcano
This area is VERY hot. Oppressively so. Below, magma burbles and boils at temperatures that seem unnatural, and the air coming up from that miasma is stifling and hard to breathe. Your lungs burn, your skin feels like it's on fire. There are rope bridges slung haphazardly across the chasm that drops into sure death, and both lead to the other side, which has a tiny ladder back out and a key for each team.
The Cliffs of Insanity
The dramatic entrance to this island is a 100 foot bluff, the slick rock wall a deep hue of red. There are handholds and footholds to climb, but it doesn't look easy - as the cliff gets higher, the handholds are fewer. the footholds thinner. Yet the top, the top appears smooth, almost as a flat plain, full of grasses and soft sand. There are holes dug here and there, as the small animals living on this island are fond of digging and burrowing. It is a large island, and all the ways on are treacherous. By day, the light shines down, warming the top of the cliff. A snake can be seen sunning itself in the light.
Pebble Beach
This lovely island is quaint yet dramatic. Thousands upon millions of pebbles and small rocks, smoothed by years of sea currents, line the beaches - no sand in sight. The rocks are a profusion of color, in tones ranging from samite to crimson, and are various shapes and sizes. Away from the beach, rolling hills hold the key to understanding this island, punctuated by strangely large rocks that seem almost carved into faces. It's unnerving, standing by a rock fifteen feet high that seems to be staring down at you! Overhead, the light filters, making everything appear sharper in contrast. The sounds of the sea rushing at the shore fill the air with presence.
