PRINCE VAHLGELLAN ELIANIK

Vahlgellan Elianik was born the same year his brother died -- a year of new seasons, new gods and new ideas. Although too young to remember the exodus, he grew up in the shadow of a foreign threat, an unexplored age, a mystery. He did not know a time without Shamibelians; he did not know a time without snow; but he did know that while these burdens were his parents' responsibility to explore, they would be his to tame.

Vahlgellan was still young when he left Caldera for Anarinuell, and it was Anarinuell he would identify as home -- as a place of unity and a cultural stronghold against the great Shamibelian foe. There, he grew and matured, became a man, joined the army, led and fought and triumphed as Elianos' son: brave and honorable, honest if a bit plain. He had an appreciation for simple pleasures and pursuits that stood in contrast to his status as a prince, but he served his Republic steadfastly and strong.

In 18 A.U., he married Eliana Rissik, a Chimera clan heir and childhood friend. Two years later, when Elianos led the heroes to Vreland and did not return, Vahlgellan assumed joint leadership of the Republic, one third of a triumvirate including Solgarik and Sadin. This lasted a year, and no more; in 21 A.U., the clan council voted in favor of unity and a new alliance, led by Vahlgellan as Ranivor. Lent popularity by recent military victories and his presence in the public eye, Vahlgellan accepted the medallion and all its responsibilities.

His reign as Ranivor was one marked and ended by conflict. In 24 A.U., the eight clans allied with and against one another, in a civil war that Vahlgellan did nothing about, and could not prevent. For his inactivity (and supposed corruption), he was removed from power and sent to Caldera, where he remained with his wife for many years, unthought of and silent.

At the bidding of Hydra rebel leaders Draugik and Pavan, Vahlgellan resurfaced in 33 A.U. to lead the Hydra clan. He did not hold the medallion long, however; once again he proved slow and sedentary, and was unable to meet the Hydra clan's needs. Trapped in the Hydra district and surrounded by Republic troops, he first declared himself clan leader, and then, at the very height of confusion, announced a new clan instead -- the Kraken Clan, a return to old ideals, unmarred by error and corruption. He was saved from a hail of arrows and arrested shortly thereafter.

Vahlgellan died in prison at his own hand, by his own blade. A note was found beside his body in which he explained the force behind his actions (and inactions) -- Lanesh, it's rumoured. Some said he was a puppet and a fool; others disbelieved and cried murder. Few knew the truth for certain, but all knew he had spared the Republic and the clan council one thing: the burden of his execution. At his death, most chose to remember the Vahlgellan of old, rather than the stranger who forsook his very soul.

Vahlgellan is survived by his wife, Eliana, and his children Savaren, Rislan and Avahlon.
