Background
Like many Firan families, the Valerians ended up living in Caldera City throughout much of the Great War, though they suffered heavy losses during the invasion by the Shamibelians. They were very poor - the matriarch of the family had to take to begging in order to feed her children, and life was hard for all of them. After the war, the family returned to Anarinuell, but because of their poverty they could only afford to reside within the Old City beyond the protection of the walls. Most of the family still lives in that neighbourhood to this very day.
