Overview

Sir Vasyklo Garkansen, an elderly sharanir of the Chimera clan. In his younger days he fought under Elianos and Riss in the Gold Dragon-Griffon wars. When Elianos set off to found the clan of Chimera, Vasyklo took his family and struck out into the wilderness, building the cities of Emran and Coralut with his brethren. He lived through the Great War and was much favored by the Ranivor. For his service, Akinita made him the first sharanir of the Chimera.

In his later years Vasyklo rejoined the military and commanded the infantry as general. He also served as minister of the land for the Republic, a tutor for the nobility, and as general for the Chimeran military. He was a prolific writer, penning scrolls on current events and historic happenings. He was struck down and killed in 42 A.U., fighting to free Ellish.

Family

The Garkansens are one of the most honorable families in the Chimera clan. Sir Vasyklo demanded it. It was whispered that Vasyklo had noble blood by a Junik lord, and it was only because Elianos did not wish to make too many noble families that the Garkansens were not ennobled. He had several children with his wife Anastashia: Benkaro, Ambrose, Telephus, Alessandro, and Jorjeena. Benkaro was blinded in one eye by Queen Sabine in one of her rages at the Chimera Compound in Emran. He was lost in the Great War. Jorjeena was killed by the Red Dragon, mistaken for a horse. Sir Vasyklo has a host of grandchildren and great grandchildren: Antonia and Balinda, Nika and Faedrus, Zutani and Arinsana, Levana, Anya, Rolinda, Lavinia, Madzia, Vasillios, Balont, Dalina, Phoenix, Naza, Bennikas, Sindie, Zana, Chinana, Isolde, Synnove, and Lirinaya. Antonia died fighting the lions that plagued the city at one time. Nika perished fighting off a Shamibelian air raid.

Several persons have joined the family through marriage, as well. Mer Nazlo, who was Jorjeena's husband, was allowed to stay in the family after Jorjeena was banished from the clan. He later married Mes Loosinda and had several children with her before she died of the Red Bloom plague. Mer Vellik married Mes Balinda but was captured during the war season, and later executed by the Shamibelians in 42 A.U. Mes Barna married Faedrus but died in child birth some time later. Liriopi married his son Telephus, but she also passed away. Jalachia, a fellow miner, married his son Ambrose later in life. Throgana married his son Alessandro, but she was later banished with the clan and resided at the Garkansen insula with her two children, Zutani and Arinsana, before being captured by the Shamibelians. Ronti married Antonia and remained in the family after she died at the hands of lions, later marrying Balinda.

Early Life

Vasyklo was born in Cirusuran, a Gold Dragon. His mother was taken by a Junik lord and Vasyklo was born from that union; his stepfather disliked having a noble bastard, however. He joined the legions at a young age, when Firgalas and Corista were waging their wars of conquest against eachother. Vasyklo was a young legionary under command of the 16-year-old Elianos when he helped to take Anarinuell. Riss, Elianos, Vasyklo, and their platoon decided to attempt a flanking maneuver through the silty sandbar of Anarinuell. It proved to be a poor decision: Griffon women took to their rooftops and rained down arrows on the advancing soldiers. It was said that the Griffon royal family escaped because Elianos insisted upon taking the harbor first and burning the Griffon triremes, leaving the eastern road clear for Corista's daughter to slip out in a hay wagon. Firgalas pressed his legions onward to Scirlut and sacked the city. Many atrocities were committed, and Vasyklo would not speak of that battle, even into his old age.

When Elianos set off to found the Chimera clan, Vasyklo followed. He helped to build Emran and was the governing officer of Coralut prior to the Great War. After the Shamibelians arrived, Vasyklo fought in the Great War with his sons and helped to drive them back to Ellish. He often commented about how he saw Srenna herself lead men into battle, and how Kamnestra's hammer shattered the gates of Anarinuell, allowing the Firans to retake the city. After the war he set up a profitable mining and lumber business in Emran, Coralut, and Anarinuell. Akinita later honored him with the first sharanirship given by the Chimeran throne.
