Overview
Veliana Karanik is the only biological child of Ajila and Uvilonar Keniran. She was 2 years old when her father died fighting at the war front in 21 A.U. Anyone who asks Veliana would be able to hear all about how her father died. She was only 2 years old when he died, but she knows all the details and she will gladly tell anyone who will listen. Uvilonar was captured by the Shamibelians at Fort Sacrifice and his head was thrown over the wall of the fort. She wasn't affected at 2 years old, though the death of her mother, struck a lasting impression on the girl.
In the year 24 A.U., when Veliana was 5 years old, Ajila was captured in an air raid and taken as a Shamibelian slave. She was attempting, and succeeded in saving a Clan Leader's life, though it was her sacrifice that cost her life. She was returned to Anarinuell, drained of all her blood. Though Veliana will talk of this story as well, and seems to relish in the words and the storytelling, it is quite evident that the time in her life has kept her haunted.
After the death of her parents, Veliana was adopted by her mother's brother and wife, along with her sisters; Kalori and Nica. The three girls were taken into the Keniran house and was showered with as much love and affection that could be given to three orphaned children. Veliana was never really all that acceptable too it, but she gained over the years a new mother, Karana and a new father, Ocarian. As well as another brother, Karish and a sister, Firana. She has grown accustomed to the life that she has grown up in. She was never left without the things she needed and she grew up in a house of love and happiness and yet, she was never a girl full of either emotion. Or any emotion for that matter.
On the first of August 48 A.U., Veliana left the clan of the Chimera and joined the clan of the Bear during the huge wars and turmoil of the Kinslayer War.
On the 18th of October, 48 A.U., Veliana left the temple of Unot and has joined the temple of Drik.
Personality and Beliefs
Veliana's goal in life is to be the best healer she can be. She wants to learn all that she can about helping people. To save them from death that is unnecessary, the way that her parents did not have that chance. She strives to find some sort of softness when she is healing, though it is slight, and hesitant. Patients will find that when she is in a medical tent or tending to wounds in the city, she takes on a softer side, there is no stare, there is no dry tone. Simple tenderness to the wound that she is caring for. She finds that healing on animals is also something that she is fond of. She used to take to practicing her healing on animals, and now she has grown to be more accustomed to giving the animals affection. Birds and hounds are her favorite, but she will be more compassionate to animals than to people in general.
She is a full fledged Priestess of Unot, and more than one person has said that the god of death and souls is probably happy that such a morbid woman is there. She does a few things at the temple, firstly she looks after evening observations and records what is written in the skies as well as how the night bodies move and the weather. She also though handles much of the preparation for what she terms the Resting. Veliana usually can either be found at the observatory or the resting chambers, although she does healing when called for. She finds that she wants to learn everything that she can about Lord Unot. Unot has consumed her life from the moment her mother died until the day she made the pledge to serve him with her life. She has vowed to put Lord Unot before all else in her life and she is very passionate about it. Growing up, she would spend time in the resting chambers, watching the preparations of the dead and the funerals from afar. She finds that her best stress reliever is going to the resting chambers to speak with not only Unot, but with those who has passed on into his embrace. She finds the wisdom of the owl and the night sky to be the most prevalent in her life and her beliefs, guiding her along the path of life.
Veliana makes to think before she does anything. She is always thinking. Contemplating everything that comes into her path. She consults her thoughts, writes them down, keeps them to herself for the most part. When she is upset or stressed out and cannot find Unot's temple close by, she can be known to revert to a staring statue that does not move or blink. She can be known on most occasions to be numb of emotions or feeling as she watches each and every person in her path. Veliana can be seen simply watching the things that go around her and seems to be known for her spooky stare that can penetrate the very soul. Despite her depressed and emo demeanor, she's quite proper in her talk and her thoughts. She is very much a proper young woman who may not act as though she cares what people think, but she does when it comes to social stigmas.
Family Life
Spouse
Albel - Veliana and Albel met each other in the forum a few days before she was to leave for Ellish during the war season 43 AU. They hit it off quickly, though they were torn apart when she went to Ellish as a medic. They weren't that close at the time, but they did write and send gifts back and forth for the entire time she was away. When she returned home, they found that they wanted to see what would develop between them. They started courting and Veliana made him work for it. She was standoffish at first, but after some time, she realized that the two of them had a lot in common. Now they are married, as of Aug 43 AU, and live in the Chimera District.
Children
Kelonos - Kelonos was found in a cave, when Veliana went with a group of men as a healer to investigate it. His mother died in Veliana's arms and had whispered that she wished for Veliana to care for the child. He is a small pale boy, he makes absolutely no sound. But none of that matters to Veliana - she simply adores her son. She takes him to the temple with her, to the military warehouse, even just on walks through the district now that she and Albel are married. Veliana named Kelonos after Kelarik and Donos, two of the greatest men who ever lived, and now, she is completely devoted to her son. She would do anything for him.
Xyleena - Xyleena was born 12:53:19 PM, Tue Jul 04, 44 A.U. on the fourth floor of the observatory in Unot's Temple. This is Veliana and Albel's first child together. She is a curious thing, and quite the opposite of her parents in that she's a cheerful, bright playful child although her father's influence with wolves and canines is apparent; Xyleena loves doing nothing more than pretending she's a dog too.
Trypheena - Veliana and Albel fell in love with Tryphena the moment they laid eyes on her, watching her play in the dirt drawing pictures instead of playing with the other orphans while they played heroes. Tryphena was a sad child with a mournful melody to her voice as she talked to Veliana about death and darkness. Mother and daughter are very, very much the same and Veliana enjoys talking about the night and death with her.
Sybilla - Sybilla was born 12:59 PM, Mon Jun 7th, 48 A.U. out of Anarinuell. This is Veliana and Albel's second child together. Due to the Kinslayer wars and a stressful pregnancy, Veliana nearly died with this birth. While the labor was not that long, Sybilla left her mark on her mother's physical endurance as it will never be the same again.
Baby Number Four - Number four was born Wed Jun 1st, 49 A.U. in Anarinuell. Born on a summer night with the sky grey-black, moonless and starless. The birth was rather easy, although the infant is big. She has yet to decide the name.

Siblings
Nica - Nica was adopted by Ajila and Uvilonar, and after their death was adopted by Karana and Ocarian, like the other girls. She's all rough and tumble and wants to be a warrior, missing out on all the profound questions of life that Veliana has. They have next to nothing in common but their hatred of Shamibelians. Of course Veliana supports the notion that the girl be a soldier, so that she can hurt the goats like they hurt Ajila and Uvilonar. Nica escaped the judgment condemning the Keniran family to the Old City; she's married to Elif and in another family now.
Kalori - When she was younger, Kalori was very silly girl who liked to lord over all other children of the Keniran household and pretend to be a noble who was misplaced at birth. She would often ask for Veliana to be her lady-in-waiting, brush her hair and fawn over her. Veliana would usually go along with it but mainly to mock Kalori or speak of the dead. That always worked in shutting Kalori up. But now that both girls are grown up, they've reached a kind of agreement. Veli will ask her for advice on stuff if she really needs to, and Kalori will grudgingly put up with Veli's oddities... as long as no one else is around to hear her and realize that they're from the same family.
Karish - For a long while, Karish was the only blood-child of Karana and Ocarian's, Veliana has an intense sibling rivalry with Karish. For all that Nica and Kalori don't understand her, they share the one bond that they all lost Ajila and Uvilonar. Karish doesn't, and is on top of that has always been very pampered as the only true child of their parents. Karana almost died when she had Karish. Veliana feels he is the one child who is loved and no one else matters to Karana and Ocarian. Certainly not Veliana. Since the judgement about Moyanik, Karish has become a protector -- very gallant man, Veliana supposes. She hates being treated like lace all the time... but the entire experience has been harrowing. The two of them butt heads alot, but somewhere in that
Firana - When Firana was a baby, she cried *all*the*time*. Still everyone fawned over her, including Kalori, who just turned to mush when she saw her, and Karana, who hardly has time for anyone else. Still... Veliana supposes she was kind of interesting sometimes, when she's not screaming. Veli would even look after her, if she had to. Often "looking after her" translates into "looking at her" and making sure she doesn't fall on her head. Now that Firana is a bit older, Veliana has taken her to the temple and has made some contacts with a friend or two to get her lessons in the skills she needs to join the Military after her Ceremony.
Enemies and Allies
Enemies
Veliana doesn't really have enemies to speak of, because most of the time, when people annoy her, she simply stares them down until they leave. There is never enough conversation or interaction to really make an enemy.
Allies
Veliana tends to keep to herself. However, she does have a few people that she might be fiercely loyal to at the moment.
Kelarik - They may have had a small meeting in the temple of Firanos or perhaps out in a tavern sometimes, the rare few times Veliana left her apartment or the temple. Veliana really met Kelarik at the war season 42 A.U. He trained her in staves, and he was quite the hard teacher, as he would push her to her limits. After that, she spent alot of time, talking to him and learning about how to live life from him. He is a priest of the Firanosian Temple and she finds him to be a great friend. She goes to him when she needs to talk or when she needs an iron word or two to get her back into the right frame of mind. Kelarik was killed by haffies in 43AU. This was devastating to her as she lost her best friend. Kelarik was soul-deathed, they cut off his head and cut out his heart. Veliana will miss him terribly and can sometimes still be seen mourning him in the temple of Unot's resting chambers.
Other people she is loyal to or might consider somewhat friends include but are not limited to (will probably change when player can think of more): Nelisha, Norik, Yacen, Aryka
Scandals and Neat Things
39 AU - Antonian Apostasy
- Karana's nephew was implicated, and eventually found guilty to be a part of the Antonian Apostasy, in order to overthrow the current leadership. As punishment for his supposed involvement, and based on the predisposition against him, due to his mother Garra, Moyanik was sentanced to death.
The Keniran family nearly met with the same fate, however, through the good works Karana had forged over the years, and her unquestionable loyalty, the family was spared from death. Their possessions were stripped from them, they were taken to the Old City, and fined 25 million stenis. Once their debt was repaid, they would be stripped of their name, and given a new one -- Karanik, as a testament to the new matriarch's accomplishments.
Hakana, Karana's mother in law, found the children of Clan Leader Amenik, and was awarded a house to be built, and 30 million stenis. Their fine repaid, and a new home for them under construction, the Karanik family now simply seeks to rebuild their lives.
47 AU - Jailed
Veliana was jailed for ten days and couldn't partake of the Fall Festival. She wasn't charged with any crimes but she regards this period as a time that shows the living aren't something she wants to be associated with much.
SPEECH: Support Religious Freedom
On Firan time: 04:29:01 AM on Tue Aug 10, in the year 48 A.U., Veliana used the 'oratory' skill successfully and received a favorable response. The text of the message reads as follows:
Standing in front of the ruined great temple in the sacred path is a priestess wearing black flowing robes in front of a large crowd gathered in the winter night. A stained dark staff is held in one hand, a small container that has some special looking linen arm bands and the glow of torchlight casts color to her otherwise pale countenance. She speaks in a flat voice, devoid of expression.
"Today, I Priestess Veliana Karanik, ask for the support of all those who value the gods and their laws. Tomorrow, for the first time, the Temple of Drik will announce the truth of their religious practices - what they really do versus what people /think/ that they do...or what other murderous, soulless people who claim they're Drikkist do.
If you are a gods-fearing citizen, if you respect and uphold their laws, if you respect your own temple and its place and use in the pantheon, then I ask you to show your dedication by wearing the bandanas I will be handing out. The bandana supports RELIGIOUS FREEDOM and UPHOLDING THE GOD LAWS, and does not state in any way that you are a Drikkist.
Contact or see me for your bandana, and pray that the Religious Council also remembers the laws set before all mortals and the gravity of ignoring them."
There was a crowd of 140 people in Anarinuell: Palace District -- The Sacred Path, including the players: Orfi Emma Macklan Carina Eeshin Talikos Emee Zellonos Dalinuel Odoni Albel Karana Willow Zalman Veliana. The crowd seemed interested by Veliana's words and Veliana's social points were adjusted upwards by 8400.
