Overview

Veliana Karanik is the only biological child of Ajila and Uvilonar Keniran. She was 2 years old when her father died fighting at the war front in 21 A.U. Anyone who asks Veliana would be able to hear all about how her father died. She was only 2 years old when he died, but she knows all the details and she will gladly tell anyone who will listen. Uvilonar was captured by the Shamibelians at Fort Sacrifice and his head was thrown over the wall of the fort. She wasn't affected at 2 years old, though the death of her mother, struck a lasting impression on the girl.

In the year 24 A.U., when Veliana was 5 years old, Ajila was captured in an air raid and taken as a Shamibelian slave. She was attempting, and succeeded in saving a Clan Leader's life, though it was her sacrifice that cost her life. She was returned to Anarinuell, drained of all her blood. Though Veliana will talk of this story as well, and seems to relish in the words and the storytelling, it is quite evident that the time in her life has kept her haunted.

After the death of her parents, Veliana was adopted by her mother's brother and wife, along with her sisters; Kalori and Nica. The three girls were taken into the Keniran house and was showered with as much love and affection that could be given to three orphaned children. Veliana was never really all that acceptable too it, but she gained over the years a new mother, Karana and a new father, Ocarian. As well as another brother, Karish and a sister, Firana. She has grown accustomed to the life that she has grown up in. She was never left without the things she needed and she grew up in a house of love and happiness and yet, she was never a girl full of either emotion. Or any emotion for that matter.

Personality and Beliefs

Veliana's goal in life is to be the best healer she can be. She wants to learn all that she can about helping people. To save them from death that is unnecessary, the way that her parents did not have that chance. She strives to find some sort of softness when she is healing, though it is slight, and hesitant. Patients will find that when she is in a medical tent or tending to wounds in the city, she takes on a softer side, there is no stare, there is no dry tone. Simple tenderness to the wound that she is caring for. She finds that healing on animals is also something that she is fond of. She used to take to practicing her healing on animals, and now she has grown to be more accustomed to giving the animals affection. Birds and hounds are her favorite, but she will be more compassionate to animals than to people in general.

She has become an Initiate of Unot recently and she finds that she wants to learn everything that she can about Lord Unot. Unot has consumed her life from the moment her mother died until the day she made the pledge to serve him with her life. She has vowed to put Lord Unot before all else in her life and she is very passionate about it. Growing up, she would spend time in the resting chambers, watching the preparations of the dead and the funerals from afar. She finds that her best stress reliever is going to the resting chambers to speak with not only Unot, but with those who has passed on into his embrace. She finds the wisdom of the owl and the night sky to be the most prevalent in her life and her beliefs, guiding her along the path of life.

Veliana makes to think before she does anything. She is always thinking. Contemplating everything that comes into her path. She consults her thoughts, writes them down, keeps them to herself for the most part. When she is upset or stressed out and cannot find Unot's temple close by, she can be known to revert to a staring statue that does not move or blink. She can be known on most occasions to be numb of emotions or feeling as she watches each and every person in her path. Veliana can be seen simply watching the things that go around her and seems to be known for her spooky stare that can penetrate the very soul. Despite her depressed and emo demeanor, she's quite proper in her talk and her thoughts. She is very much a proper young woman who may not act as though she cares what people think, but she does when it comes to social stigmas.

Family Life

Veliana is a single woman with aspirations to simply further her career. She is a healer by vocation and finds that her enlistment into the Republic Military and her work in the Unotian temple as an Initiate keeps her quite busy. She doesn't really talk of getting married or having a family of her own. Simply keeping her options open perhaps.

Parents

Karana - Adopted by Karana, Veliana has never really warmed up to her Mother. She always found that the woman was never really measured up to the memory of her real mother. She does get along best with Karana and as she has grown up, Veliana has found that she is closer to Karana than she likes to admit. She struggles with the idea of replacing Ajila completely in her mind and in her memories, thus she stays distant from her adoptive mother, though she does try her best to keep a good relationship with her mother.

Ocarian - Adopted by her mother's brother, Ocarian has been the only father figure that Veliana really remembers. He is the 'Iron Chef' of the city and has been known to work for nobles and royalty alike. He is a great cook and he has a jubilant demeanor that Veliana just doesn't understand. When she was growing up, he would take her to the functions that he cooked for, but she generally tended to scare away people from the table, with her stare. She is close to Ocarian, as she was only 2 years old when her real father died, but she is mindful not to allow Ocarian to replace her father's memory in her mind.

Siblings

Nica - Nica was adopted by Ajila and Uvilonar, and after their death was adopted by Karana and Ocarian, like the other girls. She's all rough and tumble and wants to be a warrior, missing out on all the profound questions of life that Veliana has. They have next to nothing in common but their hatred of Shamibelians. Of course Veliana supports the notion that the girl be a soldier, so that she can hurt the goats like they hurt Ajila and Uvilonar. Nica escaped the judgment condemning the Keniran family to the Old City; she's married to Elif and in another family now.

Kalori - When she was younger, Kalori was very silly girl who liked to lord over all other children of the Keniran household and pretend to be a noble who was misplaced at birth. She would often ask for Veliana to be her lady-in-waiting, brush her hair and fawn over her. Veliana would usually go along with it but mainly to mock Kalori or speak of the dead. That always worked in shutting Kalori up. But now that both girls are grown up, they've reached a kind of agreement. Veli will ask her for advice on stuff if she really needs to, and Kalori will grudgingly put up with Veli's oddities... as long as no one else is around to hear her and realize that they're from the same family.

Karish - For a long while, Karish was the only blood-child of Karana and Ocarian's, Veliana has an intense sibling rivalry with Karish. For all that Nica and Kalori don't understand her, they share the one bond that they all lost Ajila and Uvilonar. Karish doesn't, and is on top of that has always been very pampered as the only true child of their parents. Karana almost died when she had Karish. Veliana feels he is the one child who is loved and no one else matters to Karana and Ocarian. Certainly not Veliana. Since the judgement about Moyanik, Karish has become a protector -- very gallant man, Veliana supposes. She hates being treated like lace all the time... but the entire experience has been harrowing. The two of them butt heads alot, but somewhere in that

Firana - When Firana was a baby, she cried *all*the*time*. Still everyone fawned over her, including Kalori, who just turned to mush when she saw her, and Karana, who hardly has time for anyone else. Still... Veliana supposes she was kind of interesting sometimes, when she's not screaming. Veli would even look after her, if she had to. Often "looking after her" translates into "looking at her" and making sure she doesn't fall on her head. Now that Firana is a bit older, Veliana has taken her to the temple and has made some contacts with a friend or two to get her lessons in the skills she needs to join the Military after her Ceremony.

Enemies and Allies

Enemies

Veliana doesn't really have enemies to speak of, because most of the time, when people annoy her, she simply stares them down until they leave. There is never enough conversation or interaction to really make an enemy.

Allies

Veliana tends to keep to herself. However, she does have a few people that she might be fiercely loyal to at the moment.

Kelarik - They may have had a small meeting in the temple of Firanos or perhaps out in a tavern sometimes, the rare few times Veliana left her apartment or the temple. Veliana really met Kelarik at the war season 42 A.U. He trained her in staves, and he was quite the hard teacher, as he would push her to her limits. After that, she spent alot of time, talking to him and learning about how to live life from him. He is a priest of the Firanosian Temple and she finds him to be a great friend. She goes to him when she needs to talk or when she needs an iron word or two to get her back into the right frame of mind.

Albel - Veliana met Albel in the marketplace and found his demeanor interesting. She followed him out of the market and they had a very deep conversation. After she left for war, the two would write back and forth and have thus gotten to know each other. She counts him among the many she would be protective over as she gets to know him. He has hounds and so he is a good man in her book. She's also intrigued by his behavior and his mysteriousness. Albel and Veliana are much the same in likes and dislikes and she counts him one that she might be close to in the future.

Other people she is loyal to or might consider somewhat friends include but are not limited to (will probably change when player can think of more): Nelisha, Norik, Yacen

Scandals

Antonian Apostasy - Karana's nephew was implicated, and eventually found guilty to be a part of the Antonian Apostasy, in order to overthrow the current leadership. As punishment for his supposed involvement, and based on the predisposition against him, due to his mother Garra, Moyanik was sentanced to death.

The Keniran family nearly met with the same fate, however, through the good works Karana had forged over the years, and her unquestionable loyalty, the family was spared from death. Their possessions were stripped from them, they were taken to the Old City, and fined 25 million stenis. Once their debt was repaid, they would be stripped of their name, and given a new one -- Karanik, as a testament to the new matriarch's accomplishments.

Hakana, Karana's mother in law, found the children of Clan Leader Amenik, and was awarded a house to be built, and 30 million stenis. Their fine repaid, and a new home for them under construction, the Karanik family now simply seeks to rebuild their lives.

Likes and Dislikes

Likes

Veliana's favorite animals are owls and hounds. Both are smart and don't talk back. She likes them because she can gain wisdom and their behavior is straight forward. She loves her hound, Fayth. Kelarik gave Fayth to her as a gift and she instantly fell in love with the hound. However, she doesn't have an owl either, being so close in devotion to Unot, makes her feel as if she has an owl always in her heart.

She collects daggers and anything pointy and sharp. She doesn't know how to throw them or use them, and she doesn't really seem to be interested in learning. However, she does know how to do tricks with them and she can make them glint the light with the swiftness of her hands.

She is partial to her quarterstaff as it saved her on occasion at war season 42 A.U. and she can be seen shadowed in a fur cloak, she finds the darkness preferable than the light. The more shadowed she is, the better she feels and more in her element she can be.

Veliana can be seen lately frequenting the Last Chance Tavern and since war season 42 A.U. has taken a liking to whiskey. She finds it to be hard and callous and without feeling. She can drown all her emo thoughts out with the whiskey. If she has to have a lighter drink, she will drink cherry wine which will come in close second. She likes it most for its blood red coloring.

Misc: Her favorite color is deep purple and black. She likes the Moon, stars, and Unot and finds the sight of blood fascinating. She finds Ticanee traditions intriguing. She finds speaking to the dead calms her and she speaks to them like they are still alive. Her favorite food is lobster bisque, because her Father makes it so well, and her favorite treat is apricot tarts. She doesn't really like perfume, but she has a favorite: Lunar Dusk Perfume.

Dislikes

Veliana hates Shamibelians. With a passion. This means she doesn't like haffies any more than the Shamibelians. This is purely because they killed both her parents in malicious and vicious manners. She has no sympathy or love lost for these creatures. Any of them. Or their sympathizers.

Though she is a healer by vocation, Veliana doesn't like to drink yarrow tea, but she will if she has too, though she does push it on her patients like candy. Its also a pet peeve of hers for patients to try to mix whiskey with the yarrow. It just doesn't work the same.

She doesn't like pink or anything girlie. She doesn't like the word 'floof' and she can't stand squealing. She finds hairpins slightly annoying, but she will wear them, and she finds dancing an irritation that she is good at, but does only when in the mood. She doesn't do flowers. She cannot stand the girlie mushy things that girls like. Including sparkles or glitter. She doesn't do gems, or playing coy.

Messenger boys bring out a very brooding mood out of Veliana. And she makes it apparent that they bother her, waste her time, and never send her messages appropriately. They interrupt her in the most inopportune moments.

She has no tolerance for anyone who is ignorant or annoying. She thinks that everyone should have the same mentality as she does and think before they speak or do things. She likes it straight forward and tell it like it is type of attitudes. Iron words get through the woman's tough exterior the best.

Veliana also doesn't do emotions. She rolls them all up and tucks them into her pocket. She doesn't show them, express them, or surrender to them often. She is generally a numb shell. Besides a few people in her life, there is no one who can get passed those caged and hidden emotions that swell up inside for years.
